peckman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Business plan please ? The Friends have not made any proposal for the old Bowls area - we are a small group of volunteers who work towards preserving and maintaining the park. Not a business or a charity even! Our main event is the fete in early September and we look after the wildlife garden. It would be the Council that would fund a basketball or tennis court. And its they who will decide whats to be done with the Bowls area, though we (and anyone else who wishes to) have the opportunity to express our views on a proposal. I understand that the Bowls area was discussed at a recent Community meeting and Matthew Hill who is a project manager for Southwark Council's leisure department is involved in preparing options for the Council to consider. His email is [email protected] if anyone wishes to contact him

The plans for mini golf were rejected by the council. The cost of playing was going to be well out of reach of many families. I'm not sure how successful/profitable the one in Hornimans was this past summer. The Council is still looking for solutions for the area - however they say that it costs money to maintain the hut and they want something that will pay for its upkeep. So - tennis courts/basketball etc won't meet their approval. The previous bowls club no longer exists and no one has come forward to start a new one. It is a huge pity to see it sitting there unused. Friends of Peckham Rye park are hoping to install an opening near the Sexby Gardens so at least people can get into it (it is locked at the moment and not accessible). Any suggestions for its use that will meet Council approval(ie bring in revenue) would be gratefully received! I have to say that I am very surprised that people won't at least try to recycle their food waste.. It's not that difficult folks! If you don't have one of the small brown bins, you can get one here https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/general-household-waste/request-household-waste-bins-bags Having said that I do not understand why, if you have kept your brown bin, you can't put food waste in that any longer.

Angelina - I'm afraid I have no details on what is planned - that is why I think the Council needs to explain more. I understand they do plan to offer some local residents discounted tickets. No idea who or how to qualify. Siduhe- I'm not clear whether this is an event they are being paid to put on (and if so, for who?) or whether they are organising it on their own behalf - they have done a Jazz, Soul and Funk festival before.

The blue notices on the fences around Peckham Rye Park are for a music festival which is planned for the Bank holiday next May. The notices don't indicate what is planned and the Friends of the Park have now been given a bit more information. You may wish to give your views to the Council (or ask questions about what is planned). Programme ? 1st day 18+ live bands all day ? ticketed ?15. 2nd day family ( not sure of pricing) Live Music all day. Entrance by pre booked ticket 8,000 ticket available. Site plan ? red line on the area shown on the plan will be surrounded by an 2 meter metal fence and closed to the public for 8 days. The main entrance to the festival is within the Park. Operational hours ? 10am ? closing 11pm. Security ? they will have security staff within and on perimeters but not further Noise ? Not known as we do not know what type of music. Neighbouring properties will be sent letters with reduced ticket offers Traffic and transport ? no car parking ? ?everyone will use public transport or walk? I attach a copy of the blue notice and a copy of the plan for the event in the Park. The link given on the poster for people to respond does not work (www.southwark.gov.uk/businesscentre/licensing/currentapplication) but the council seem to think that this does not matter as people can phone or write - it is a licensing application for alcohol. The company organising this is called We Are The Fair. Perhaps Renata or James can enlighten us on what is planned?

Wife attacked by dog on Peckham Park
Lollipop replied to Teacher12's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I recognise the description of the dog concerned. It is an unusually large husky cross - the female owner told me it is not quite a year old. It is closer in size to a Great Dane than the normal husky size. The owner is young and slight and struggles to control it on the lead as it is very strong. On the whole, it is not an aggressive dog, but young and untrained. I speak as a dog owner (I have two dogs). Training is vital if you are a dog owner. She did walk it regularly in Peckham Park in the morning , coming in through the entrance at Forest Hill Road by the crosswalk. No idea where she lives, but perhaps someone might recognise this description. -
Try the DHCS allotment which is near the Horniman. Our waiting list is not too long and it is lovely there https://www.facebook.com/DHCSAllotments/

Uninsurable because I want to do an extension to my house!
Lollipop replied to Lollipop's topic in The Lounge
Thanks Penguin68. I talked to two insurance companies ( my existing and my previous one). The existing one was useless (serves me right for going for the cheapest quote). The old one advised that I go through a broker which I am now trying to do. The builder has all the insurance he needs and I am using an architect and a Small Building Works contract. From what I understand at the moment, if I let him start work, then my insurance is void. -
I made the stupid mistake of changing buildings and content insurance companies in April and had no idea that insurance companies will not cover you for building work if you do this within a period of time ( not defined) after taking out a new policy.... so builder is lined up but may have to cancel the work for at least year. It's a pretty ordinary side return extension. All because I wanted to go for a cheaper insurance quote.

Southwark initiated a poorly advertised dog consultation which invited people to fill in a questionnaire by early June. The consultation was flawed in several ways in my view - mainly because people could reply multiple times so it cannot be called fair. A decision is apparently going to be made on how to proceed around the end of September. From the tone of the questionnaire, the options seem to be: leave things as they are dogs on leads in certain areas (cemeteries, Sydenham Woods and possibly parks) dogs banned from certain areas (cemeteries and Sydenham Woods) There are also questions regarding dog walkers and the number of dogs they should be allowed to walk. There are obviously going to be lots of different opinions, and I would encourage any dog owners (and non dog owners too!) to contact their local councillors to give their views so there is proper consideration of the issues. For those dog owners/lovers on Facebook, there is a page called Southwark Loves Dogs which has been set up to share ideas on how to proceed. You can find your local councillors here http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgFindMember.aspx? I am a dog owner and I believe that we are blessed with many green spaces in Southwark which everyone should be able to use - with consideration for all other users.

As someone who has two dogs ( and not a dog walker) I am really sad about the Southwark consultation. It should not be necessary if people were more considerate about their pets behaviour. I use a dog walker when I am away on holiday and she says she would be happy to be restricted in the number of dogs. Sydenham Woods has had a sign for some time now stating there is a limit to the number of dogs people can walk there. I do feel very frustrated at groups of friends who walk around parks, the cemetery and Sydenham Wood who do not pay attention to their dogs. Often the dog does a poo so far away from the owner that calling them back is not possible. Plea to all dog owners/walkers - please pay attention and make sure you pick up. It spoils it for everyone and I completely understand why people would argue for dogs on leads. All credit though to the lady who I chased after this week whose dog had done a poo which she missed. It was in the long grass and neither of us could find it. However she found another poo and picked that up instead!

Hello - I saw her going into the chemists near Potager this evening and realised I had seen her before in the same place. Today she was wearing the jacket in your photo, which is why I recognised her (and she had the dog with her) The dog is actually a brindle staffie. I was walking my dogs and she warned me to keep away as her dog was not good with other dogs.... She obviously lives somewhere close by so you might get some more information from either the off licence (about to become a Costcutter) or the chemist. I have seen her going into both - and leaving the dog tied up outside. Hope that helps

Fly tipping Forest Hill Road/Dunstans Road
Lollipop replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can you add a mattress dumped at the corner of Dunstans Road and Dunstan's Grove? It's been there for a few days... And the skip outside the shop in Forest Hill Road is a pain - only one person can pass at a time and it stinks! -
AGS Refrigeration - fridge repair, fridgefreezer, freezer repairs

To add to the praise for Glen. He came and fixed my Samsung Fridge/freezer. Very pleased with the work he did. Ad all the advice he gave on keeping it running! -
Man arrested in connection with Dulwich Park stabbing
Lollipop replied to gerry's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
According to the Press it was a screwdriver, but violent crime is a terrible problem. Apparently someone was stabbed to death at Peckham Rye station this afternoon. -
Very strange survey but I have filled it in. I am a regular user of Peckham, Dulwich and Nunhead with my two dogs. I do find it very irritating when owners do not pick up poo. I have had dogs for years and have always picked up poo. It's not that difficult to do. I agree with first mate that dog poo on the pavement is completely beyond the pale! And as a regular user of Dulwich Park, I find the number of cyclists using it for fast training quite scary. A saw a young child nearly knocked over by a fast cyclist just last week. Mum was upset but the cyclist didn't stop. I cycle as well as walk dogs, but would never race through a park. I think a question on what other issues annoy people in parks might have been useful! They may discover that people have quite a few other concerns.

Hi I would also like to say thanks to Aston who has been to rehang a door plane another one and hang some Roman blinds. His work is always high quality and he is prompt, very polite and turns up on time... Unlike Sean of Dulwich who I booked to do some work and he never came and didn't answer any messages. So I am not sure why is being grumpy (see above).

I just had one installed and used a company called Stoake http://www.stoake.co.uk/wood-burning-stoves/?gclid=CMyesMmbutACFRPjGwod-QICwg who I can thoroughly recommend. I had to have the chimney lined and swept and the old fireplace knocked out. It wasn't cheap but it is DEFRA approved and came with the HETAS certificate (which means they installed it properly and you won't get carbon monoxide poisoning). I have only been burning wood in it for a few days and it was from the local petrol station - they advised me to get 'proper' wood which will burn much better. Mine won't burn coal (well, it will but you are not supposed to as it will damage chimney liner) Mine is a Stovax - I couldn't have one with a bendy flue as my chimney was too narrow....Worth getting them in to quote.

Debra Parker - who is very local - is an architect I have used in the past and am about to again. She will just do drawings, do drawings and get through planning and everything up to managing the whole thing for you. http://dparchitect.co.uk/contact/ Highly recommend her

I am sure Leonard knew what was about to happen and decided it was time to go.....

I have to say that having tried to book a bulky item collection on the new council website I understand why people are fly tipping. It is a nightmare!! I go round and round in a loop asking me to login (which I do) and then a new tab opens and when I click on bulky items it asks me to log in again! No wonder people are fly tipping. I am happy to pay the ?16 but it seems the council don't want the money - or the nuisance of collection. Will get on to James B about it

where can i take large tree branches
Lollipop replied to cecyfly07's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
And you can now buy wood burning stoves that are DEFRA approved and legal. -
New fixed bus lane camera, Dog Kennel Hill
Lollipop replied to kford's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There has been a camera there for years to my knowledge. I speak as one who got a fine many moons ago. Never driven in a bus lane since! -
I am also concerned that the suspected site of the poisoning is so close to the children's playground. Does anyone know whether the park staff will be investigating? I say this as a parent of a 23-year old who used to play there frequently. And the owner of two dogs who walk near there every day.
