  1. Thanks, I'll email them and also let the school know.
  2. Having moved (and misplaced the letter), we now need to decline our school offer. I have logged onto eAdmissions and clicked "view outcome of application and respond" but there is no options to respond, only a message with the name of the school and advise to read the letter before responding. Anyone able to let me know how I can decline the place? Thanks.
  3. Any recommendations for classes for a 2y old and 1y old boy in and around Beckenham on a Weds or Thurs? Can drive so not restricted by walking distance/ public transport. Thanks
  4. Our survey indicated that there isn't any evidence of an up-to-date electrical safety check/EICR. This is pretty standard, particularly in older properties but who pays for this, the vendor or buyer? It's approx. ?200, so not a huge expense that's worth making a fuss about but it is still useful money given that moving is an expensive process. As far as I can gather, it is not a legal requirement (cf gas safety) but not doing it for the sake of money is not an option for us.
  5. Thanks all for the good advice. It's difficult to know what is a real problem and what we could live with for another 5-10y, e.g (not damp related) re:windows - double glazed plastic(!)of some age and some of the panes have failed and misted over. Windows are likely to require replacing at some point in the near future. Ideally, we would rip them out and replace with wooden sash but we are uikely to be able to afford that for quite sometime and it may actually be fine for a while. I suppose in reality, unless buying a new build or recent renovation (and even then), there will be a list of imperfections which we will have to prioritise from necessary to would-be-nice. I'm hoping for a similar outcome to yours, Edcam.
  6. We have a just received our Homebuyer's report on a house (built c.1900), which red flagged high damp readings at various points in the walls of the ground floor and that at various points the damp proof internal floor is higher than the damp-proof course and should be lowered. We will get a damp and timber report but have read that this is common with houses of this age and not necessarily a problem. The mortgage company have approved our loan without retaining any funds, which I have read they tend to do with cases of damp. Is it reasonable to infer that the damp issue may not be terrible, if they are prepared to lend?
  7. Perhaps if you contact the schools directly? I remember JAPS handed out information at their open day about the percentage of girls achieving national levels and above.
  8. Thank you all, got it from Sainsbury's - did the trick! Will check out Balloons of London next time when I am more organised - thanks
  9. That's very helpful, Lochie, thank you! Do you know anyone who would be happy for me to email them about Fennies? If you do, would you mind PMing their email address(es)? Many thanks
  10. Resurrecting this thread as we are hoping to move to the Kent House area - any further recommendations for (or to avoid) nurseries? So far, we have only visited Fennies on Kings Hall Road and this would be the most convenient in terms of hours and location, so opinions on this particular nursery would be useful. Feel free to PM if you prefer. Also recommendation for things to do in the area with the kids - Beckenham Spa and Cator park are nearby but otherwise I am a bit clueless about kids things in the area. Thanks!
  11. It's very tricky, as the hours required will not earn nannies/au pairs much money and also breaks up their day and any chance of another job :( Could a TA or childminder do pick ups for you? Some childminders do offer these services. We found ours through childcare.com but this is a generic childcare website not one specialising in after school. I would recommend posting in the classifieds section here and on the childcare websites. Dulwich childcare may also be able to help if you contact them. Good luck!
  12. When is the hen night? If winter then I recommend a chocolate making workshop-type thing that I went to years ago on a hen do, which was great fun. Champagne afternoon tea dinner and live music If summer, then an out door picnic concert at somewhere like Kenwood house Good luck organising and have fun
  13. Does anyone know where we can buy helium canisters locally so we can fill the balloons ourselves? Thanks
  14. My 4y old has been going to Eos ballet for the past year and loves it. The do weekend afternoon classes as well as Saturday morning. http://eosdance.co.uk/
  15. Another parent to take them back to their home? Offer babysitting as token of thanks so they can have an evening out.

So add another 10min onto your journey. Not sure how busy the tubes are once you make it onto the platform - I assume(!) there will be quite a few people alighting at Victoria. Neither of us are regular tube commuters so this may be par for the course.
  17. Re: sling and buggy - we have the same age gap and did sling and buggy, then buggy and scooter/buggyboard from age 6months and 2.5y, respectively. Didn't go down the double buggy/Phil'n'Ted's route and never once regretted it, saved a few bob, too. However, if my youngest happened to be the first-born then we would definitely need a double of sorts, as he refuses point blank to walk anywhere but then runs non-stop when we reach the park :/ Depending on the personality of the your kids, you try the cheaper option and if it doesn't work out then look into others.
  18. My Favourite Nursery on Upland Road - also recommended by others here, if you do a search. Good luck!
  19. It's the first time in 11y that neither my husband nor I are working over Christmas and New Year - whoop, whoop! Admittedly, I did 3h unpaid overtime yesterday, he is working overnight tonight and we are both working some of the days in between but we are both off on the bank holidays and weekends. It may be another decade before this happens again so we're are relishing the time off. Happy Christmas EDFers!

How about overpriced cake at ?3/slice? Actually, my waistline may be better for the move. Joking aside, you are all doing a sterling job of selling the area to me. Will be in touch BB should the move work out - thank you! Otta, yes I agree about Brixton. Always felt I ought to explore and enjoy that area but it was a case of it being near yet so far.
