  2. No problems with parking around there but would avoid Ruskin Walk.
  3. For me (a) Stopped playing at 18 when I went to university, deskilled now but still able to read music. I wish I kept at it but it's not irredeemable and I intend to have lessons again once the kids are older.
  4. I recommend VP removals - hard working, no breaks for tea/coffee. They did packing and removals for us and accommodated several changes in moving dates. I got recommendations for them from this forum.
  5. Thanks, I'll email them and also let the school know.
  6. Having moved (and misplaced the letter), we now need to decline our school offer. I have logged onto eAdmissions and clicked "view outcome of application and respond" but there is no options to respond, only a message with the name of the school and advise to read the letter before responding. Anyone able to let me know how I can decline the place? Thanks.
  7. Any recommendations for classes for a 2y old and 1y old boy in and around Beckenham on a Weds or Thurs? Can drive so not restricted by walking distance/ public transport. Thanks
  8. Do a search for Carly or Brazilian blow dry - a lot of recommendations for her.
  9. Our survey indicated that there isn't any evidence of an up-to-date electrical safety check/EICR. This is pretty standard, particularly in older properties but who pays for this, the vendor or buyer? It's approx. ?200, so not a huge expense that's worth making a fuss about but it is still useful money given that moving is an expensive process. As far as I can gather, it is not a legal requirement (cf gas safety) but not doing it for the sake of money is not an option for us.
  10. Thanks all for the good advice. It's difficult to know what is a real problem and what we could live with for another 5-10y, e.g (not damp related) re:windows - double glazed plastic(!)of some age and some of the panes have failed and misted over. Windows are likely to require replacing at some point in the near future. Ideally, we would rip them out and replace with wooden sash but we are uikely to be able to afford that for quite sometime and it may actually be fine for a while. I suppose in reality, unless buying a new build or recent renovation (and even then), there will be a list of imperfections which we will have to prioritise from necessary to would-be-nice. I'm hoping for a similar outcome to yours, Edcam.
  11. We have a just received our Homebuyer's report on a house (built c.1900), which red flagged high damp readings at various points in the walls of the ground floor and that at various points the damp proof internal floor is higher than the damp-proof course and should be lowered. We will get a damp and timber report but have read that this is common with houses of this age and not necessarily a problem. The mortgage company have approved our loan without retaining any funds, which I have read they tend to do with cases of damp. Is it reasonable to infer that the damp issue may not be terrible, if they are prepared to lend?
  12. Perhaps if you contact the schools directly? I remember JAPS handed out information at their open day about the percentage of girls achieving national levels and above.
  13. Can anyone recommend someone to disconnect our old gas cooker and install the new one? Thanks.
  14. Thank you all, got it from Sainsbury's - did the trick! Will check out Balloons of London next time when I am more organised - thanks
  15. I just wanted to add my recommendation for Emete and Friddle's cakes - Emete is so accommodating that when I asked her whether she would make an Elsa doll cake, she jumped at the chance and I also asked about various designs for my son's cake and she came up with some brilliant suggestions. Needless to say, the Elsa cake was just amazing and tasted delicious - luckily my daughter has a very sweet tooth as it was just too beautiful to cut otherwise and received endless compliments! I absolutely recommend Emete and Friddle's cakes for any occasion!
  16. That's very helpful, Lochie, thank you! Do you know anyone who would be happy for me to email them about Fennies? If you do, would you mind PMing their email address(es)? Many thanks
  17. Resurrecting this thread as we are hoping to move to the Kent House area - any further recommendations for (or to avoid) nurseries? So far, we have only visited Fennies on Kings Hall Road and this would be the most convenient in terms of hours and location, so opinions on this particular nursery would be useful. Feel free to PM if you prefer. Also recommendation for things to do in the area with the kids - Beckenham Spa and Cator park are nearby but otherwise I am a bit clueless about kids things in the area. Thanks!
