  1. I'm now a fan of iPhone. Battery life can be a bit of a problem - tho' it recharges very quickly. I use m ine with my desktop Apple Mac and synchronise everything - calendars, contacts, notes via "Mobile Me" - a form of cloud computing. The quality of the screen and its size makes it great for carrying round a small portfolio of photos - used last week to show 85 year old mother photos of her grandchildren skiing and generally being active. Only note of caution - I upgraded from a very old Nokia so the leap in technology was that much more impressive. I didn't compare the iPhone with other similar products.

  3. It's my understanding that Fusion manages theservices the services" at ED but Southwark Council owns and manages the facilities.
  4. If budget is a concern I believe the Heart Foundation Charity on Old Kent Road (about 500 yards from Tesco) sells refurbished white goods at reasonable prices. If you get three / four years worth for ?75 you're well ahead. Many makes available.
  5. Mic Mac - Si Mangia usually gets a good write up here as a fair, middle priced, local eaterie. A search would reveal the full range of opinion. My family and I use it regularly, not as a destination or special place but for good food, sensibly priced with friendly service. In my experience your noisy visit would be a one off.

Channel 5(?) highlights at 7.15 today. Will be worth watching - I was just listening and want to see the final wicket - middle stump knocked over by Swann - what a way to finish a great cricket match.
  7. In one of the Sunday "heavies" a NASA scientist was quoted as saying that building a supersonic airliner was actually more difficult than getting a man to the moon - at least in technical engineering terms.

  9. Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- There is no legal restriction on photography in public places, and there is no presumption of privacy for individuals in a public place. But I think this is changing under counter terrorism laws which is, at least on some occasions, used incorrectly to stop perfectly innocent photography of trains, planes, ships, street scenes, fairs, etc etc. I'm tempted to go along Whitehall and take a photo of the police at entrance to Downing Street - I fear that I'd be at least cautioned if I did so.
  10. Yee Haaaa. A great win and Ricky Ponting was gracious in defeat.
  11. Worrying - 209 and 98 overs. It's all down to England's bowlers (and the umpiring)

Even if the intent was malicious no damage done c. The OP describes the man as late 50s / early 60s - this could be up to 33% of the male population of ED. Makes all such men potential suspects and damages social cohesion.
  14. Well done - let's generate more pointless hysteria.
  15. Except Fort William has Ben Nevis on its doorstep with fantastic climbing in sumer and winter plus what used to be a brilliant chippy - staffed by a Chinese family with broad Glaswegian accents. Their Black Pudding or Haggis supper (deep fried & battered BP / Haggi + lashing of chips) were great after a day's climbing.
  16. I'm with Sherwick - bat for an hour just to give Australia some more psychological stick and check bowling conditions. There's a good bundle of grey clouds over N. London at present - maybe we can get some swing and, even better, reverse swing after lunch.
  17. I'll drink a "tot" in his memory - he was a naval man, joining the Royal Naval Air Service in 1915, subsequently transferring to the RAF when it was invented. A fascinating life as BBW said.
  18. I would expect England to enforce the follow on today. Conditions should continue to assist the bowlers so they will hope to again bowl out Australia and win the match. IF they do win the match expect an unchanged side at the next match.
  19. We're here with the Queen today and despite losing Straus to the second ball England currently have the edge. Good day for bowling - slightly overcast, bit humid, bowles getting some swing and Aussie batsmen don't look at all comfortable. Great atmosphere and better now I've located the Guinness Bar.
  20. Brendan, I'll be there with my beard (shorter these days and sporting more silver than black). It used to hide my ties but is now the more fashionable close crop - goes with bsld head. Will try to updare EDF live from the ground - a bit worried about weather forecast.
  21. What a day. 100% for the first session, 70% for second and 25% for the last. At least KP was out to a half way decent ball - tho' he should still be battling if he had concentrated better. I'll back 425 as an all out score - at least I'll get to see both sides bat tomorrow (which is why I always book for the 2nd day of a test match.

It is possible to take in drinkable wine and beer and not rely on the outrageous bar prices and lousy quality available at the various franchises.
  23. Not a bad morning session - Cook with a 50, no wickets and all Australian bowlers looking average at best. Not too many chances given by either Strauss or Cook - both seemed to remember, when tempted, that their task was: a. To get to lunch without losing their wicket b. To grind down the bowling c. To get in and stay in. Here's hoping the weather tomorrow allows a good day's play and that my wallet can stand the Lord's beer prices.
  24. I watched this great movie again recently. I had forgotten what a powerful image of hell it could evoke in the Russian Roulette scenes. Question - is there any basis in fact behind theses scenes?
