Brilliant! I did it in 2005, best experience of my life despite the training runs in (like you) horizontal sleet, hail and winds. I ran the majority of my long training runs with a group from Dulwich Park Runners - worth looking into if you're not already a member of a running club. They were great support, made the long runs a lot easier to have someone to talk to (the longest I did by myself was about 17 miles). I've returned to running after a few years break due to babies, but am already looking forward to my next marathon. Maybe next year...

Vickster, thanks for an excellent post. I've had two babies and wasn't aware of the increased risk, so hopefully someone reading this may be helped by your experience. I'm glad you're OK x

My son first went when he was 6 months old, and has been every year since. Admittedly the first time was more for my benefit, the lure of candyfloss was too much to resist. Every other year he's loved it, last year he was 2.5 and sat transfixed throughout, as did his sister who was only just over 1 at the time (she went to her first Zippos performance aged about 10 weeks!). The noise and crowds didn't seem to bother them in the slightest. Great fun, I'm looking forward to going this weekend :)

I say southwark - fortnightly bin collections
Pickle replied to Terry Thomas esq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree with MrsP. We're also a family of 4, our green bin is never full on collection day. We have a kitchen waste disposal unit which deals with most of our food waste, and it's not a bother to put the other bits and pieces in the bags the council have supplied. We're lucky to have such a comprehensive recycling scheme in our area, well done Southwark! -
Yes, the dreaded "2 year old molars". It's the only time in C's life that he's been difficult to deal with at night, lasted for a while. It's just started with M in the last couple of weeks, her sleep has been pretty bad as a result. Drugs seem to help ;-) P x

There's a "please donate" right at the bottom of your page (bottom left hand corner).

Good luck with the move Sam, was lovely to have met you. Take care x

I'm dreading my kids getting to that age and having a whole new set of decisions to make! On the music side of things, do they offer recorder? From a musician's point of view, albeit the classical side of things, I would say it's a more "useful" instrument to start out on in that it provides quite a natural progression to wind instruments - so that if, in a few years, she decides that flute/clarinet/oboe/saxaphone etc. are for her she will already have a good grounding. She's also more likely to learn to read music by learning recorder, whereas guitar (depending on how it's being taught) may limit her to reading chord charts rather than music on the stave. Hope I haven't confused you more :) P x

How do I get a catnapping 12 week old into a nap routine?
Pickle replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My 2nd child was similar - she would nap happily but seemed to struggle to get past one sleep cycle. I was DETERMINED that I would manage to get both children napping after lunch at the same time, so would put her down in her cot and she'd sleep for about 30 - 40 mins. When she woke I then put her into the Huggabub sling, and generally she would settle back to sleep strapped to me. Gradually (over the course of a couple of months) she started sleeping longer in her cot and we phased the sling out. Happily both my daughter and her brother still have their lunchtime nap, two years later! Good luck. -
Jamma, I got an email confirmation straight away. Might be worth giving them a call?

Medised was a life saver for us too - it was still licensed for 6 months and over when I had my son, and I still have some old packaging with the dosage...

I gave up on using Sainsbury's direct a few years ago after consistently poor service - missing items, late deliveries and deliveries cancelled due to lack of staff etc. We now use Tesco and I've been happy with their service. Their delivery slots are now in 1 hour blocks like Ocado which is brilliant.

In our house the pregnancy crazies have extended for 2 years after the birth of my second child and are still going strong. Does anyone else find themself telling their OH he's breathing too loud? :-$

Yay, booked our tickets, thanks for the code!

Aha, I hadn't seen Axeman's other post. Molly, I was thinking along the lines of "whole body binding" too, could be a winner. Maybe with some "I love ED/Peckham" branding?

Sure and Firm nursery - anyone know what's going on?
Pickle replied to Jamma's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've been wondering the same thing. I walk past a lot, and there never seems to be any sign of work going on in the building. If they do it well there should be no shortage of people wanting a place, however it does seem to be taking a while for anything to materialise. -
I would much prefer it if my 3.5 year old sucked his fingers or thumb, rather than the horrible stinky soft toy that he opted for from a young age! Wouldn't they still be able to suck their fingers, albeit through the binding?

You can just turn up to a WW class. There will be membership forms there to fill out, make sure you stay for the meeting to have a chat to the leader at the end of the class - there is generally a separate short session for new members right at the end. Good luck!

Scoot Scooting a Mini Micro (beep beep!)
Pickle replied to GinaG3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Molly, in our house they are never called scooters. Today they were aeroplanes, yesterday motorbikes, tomorrow chances are they'll be petrol tankers/bin lorries/fire engines. I get told off for calling them scooters! Seems the imaginery world of a 3.5 and a 2 year old is too difficult for old Mum to get her head around! -
Watch out Lee Scorseby, we will hunt you down...

Scoot Scooting a Mini Micro (beep beep!)
Pickle replied to GinaG3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It depends on the child. My son didn't master his until he was 3 (got it when he was 2.5), but he was a late walker and isn't very confident physically. We ended up buying one for our daughter when she was 20 months as an early birthday present as she kept trying to take her brothers one, and she was confident and fast on it straight away. They are brilliant once the child masters it, make getting from A to B so much faster (I usually end up having to jog along behind my kids these days to try and keep up!) -
I didn't, but I did see a couple of other adults speaking to her as we left. It is difficult with kids, especially when they're little and unable to wait - however I hate seeing parents letting kids go to the toilet in busy areas (Lordship Lane on Saturdays for example). We've always managed to at least go into a side street, and have also found most businesses are happy to let kids use their toilets.
-
I carry a portable potty when we're going places that I know there won't be toilets - it's small enough to fit in my bag. Worst I've come across is at the water play park in Sydenham over summer, a mother holding her little girl and laughing as she swung her round while she wee'd, meaning it splashed across other kids playing near her. Horrible :(

Last Summer Fair of the year, tomorrow...
Pickle replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm performing at this :) Will be there from 1 till 2pm as principal flute with "Opal Flutes" (the group are playing from 12ish, but I'm only there from the 2nd half due to another rehearsal) - so be sure to say hi!
