  1. Passing it to the local newspaper may be effective as well.
  2. Q1. How many times have you called them out in the past few years? Personally, I have never called out anyone to repair a fridge (they are pretty robust) and I need a washer repair about once every 5 years. I can't see that being cost-effective. Boilers? Well, perhaps. As usual with such things, the people over at Money Saving Expert are good to consult. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/boiler-insurance

Blanche, You seem take issue with Southwark proposing 75 year leases, yet your alternative, Kemnal Park, only offers leases as well, some for as little as 25 years. And, in fact, burial law in the United Kingdom now mandates that graves can no longer be sold in perpetuity. You can only buy a lease, and such leases cannot be for more than 100 years.
  4. Not sure how metering your usage could be a con. Can you image if they were trying to impose it the other way around? "Yeah, we've got this great new idea - we'll send you a bill for electricity and gas based on how much your home is worth".
  5. I think the general rule is, if you have more or the same number of bedrooms than people, get a meter. Less bedrooms than people, stick with the rates system. Getting a water meter is free, and they have to fit one if you ask. Thames did ours about two weeks after being asked. Did a rather nice job of it, considering they had to get up some paving bricks to do it.

The plans I have seen are in the strategy document on page 21, which show the consecrated areas and the year they were consecrated. The blocks in the middle (105, 106, 107) are unconsecrated. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/3046/cemetery_strategies
  7. Are Southwark saying that the zigzags in the middle of the road mean that the parking to the side is prohibited? In that case, you definitely have grounds for a challenge, as the marking are not, as I read it, in line with the legislation. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1997/2400/schedule/4/made I would say the lines would have to be as per diagram 3 or 6, depending on how you view that central reservation. In either case, there seems to be a requirement for lines at the edge of the carriageway, which that photos suggest none exist.

It's a hoax. Besides, apart from anything else, why would an unknown English actor purport to be an unknown American comedian?

That's one hell of a serious maths fail. Just wrong - you can't apply that sort of logic to percentages/proportions like that. I thought architects were good at maths? That, plus the fact claimed 10% Orthodox Muslims, not Muslims, means I think we can safely say that your/SSW figures for this are therefore completely incorrect. I hope you will stop using them. And you still haven't explained why the Muslim funeral website I linked to are offering all three cemeteries. Surely Muslims would know better than you?
  12. Still wondering where your figures on Muslims come from Blanche. They - and the associated claims of discrimination - clearly seem to be flawed.

Unlike our contributions to the EU. Anyway, that's not even close. The UK's total contribution to the EU is about ?18bn, of which we get an immediate rebate of ?5bn, plus directly benefit from EU spending to the tune of about 4.5bn. Of the rest, some goes to poorer countries in the EU, some to running the EU. So, should we depart from the EU, expect that a good proportion of the 'saving' to be ploughed into additional government in the UK to make up for all the bits the EU does. As an example, a smallish department like the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills had a budget of over 16bn. So we may even end up paying more for replacing the EU.
  14. Blanche Cameron Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Orthodox Muslim residents are only around 10% of Southwark residents Also, the 2011 census reported that only 8.5% of Southwark residents were Muslim. Only a much smaller percentage of those would be Orthodox Muslim. Where did your 10% figure come from?

Blanche, A quick Google shows that a company called Muslim Funeral Service have a guide of cemeteries suitable Muslim burial sites in London. http://www.mfs.org.uk/default.asp?ID=62 For Southwark, it lists COC, CNC and Nunhead. Why do you think they are not catered for?

Can they never stop interfering? You mean they cut down the huge charges that banks have been charging (meaning higher prices), leaving them less huge profit so they can lob a couple of pennies on in small change to make you think they were doing you a favour? And you fell for it! Tell ya what. Gimme ?20 and I'll give you 50p in return. Bargain.

SSW have stated they do not want burials anywhere in Southwark. And this is where SSW will fail to win over the Diocese. They are essentially suggesting to the local church that they should not perform any more burials. I'd be very surprised if they agree to that.
  19. Blanche, The twitter feed yesterday was claiming that SSW was intending to file an application for an injunction. Has that fallen through?

An expat is merely someone who is not currently living in their home country. That would cover those that are away on a longish-term basis as well as those, like me, who are permanent. I am an expat, an immigrant and an emigrant.
