Tootsamaginty gets another vote here. Not cheap, but (other than dresses!) completely unisex so can be handed through siblings. A friend of mine, who had just had a boy after already havinga girl, cried when we bought her one of their jumpers as she was so happy to get something without a dinosaur or a digger on it. I like this site, which has fairly regular sales, and sells a variety of brightly coloured good quality clothes: Http://www.loveitloveitloveit.co.uk I don't touch Clark's for shoes. My eldest is a girl and it's wall to wall pink and sequins. Emmanuelle Marshall at the ED Warehouse has great stuff for boys and girls.

There are Milk Spots Monday to Thursday all around Herne Hill sort of area. Anna and her colleague are brilliant and very accessible. -
1st Birthday- Any ideas where to celebrate?

The Dish and Spoon cafe in Nunhead is great for kids' parties. You can hire it with or without catering. -
Lets hear it for Gestational Diabetes....!
simonethebeaver replied to buggie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Massive sympathy. I had GD and the breakfasts drove me mad, as my morning readings were the worst. My top tip is Staffordshire oatcakes, as the consultant told me off for having carb free breakfasts and sending my ketones rocketing. They are like pancakes. I bought mine online in bulk(!) but I've been told that DKH Sainsburys has them at the moment. They are traditionally served with melted cheese but I used them as general wraps, although cheese is obviously a good option for you at the moment. They are less than 20g carb each and I could tolerate them when even Burgen toast was too much. -
I second Daniel Harvey. But there are also specialist women's physios at Tommy's - your GP should be able to refer you. They are ace, but there is a wait to see them.

July staycation suggestions with a 2.5y & 4 month-old

Well, you learn something new every day. I would still call it a holiday though, as that's the word I've been using all my life! -
July staycation suggestions with a 2.5y & 4 month-old
simonethebeaver replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I thought a staycation was when you stayed at home but took time off normal life and did touristy things. Aren't you just talking about a holiday? -
I'm nervous reading this! My 26 month old is still in a cot and a brilliant afternoon napper (2-3 hours). I also have an 11 week old so that nap is a lifesaver. We are going on holiday at the weekend and she will be in a bed. She's been in one this weekend at her grandparents and nights are fine but naps dreadful. After two weeks of a bed, will we ever get our napper back?!

accident - sainsbury dog kennel hill. avoid
simonethebeaver replied to Saila's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I hope he's OK. Can anyone who knows about these things explain why it was an air ambulance when the accident was so close to Kings? I thought air ambulances were used either for speed or for inaccessible areas, and neither seems to apply. No agenda to this question, just puzzled. -
Anyone given birth at Kings recently?
simonethebeaver replied to monniemae's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Not necessarily pie in the sky. It'll presumably be a 4/6 hour discharge facility (although I know you can choose to stay overnight at Lewisham) so the turnover won't be bad. I bet access will be very restricted to low risk only, so that will cut down on use, especially as Kings takes high risk out of area women, which bumps up its numbers. Also Kings has a high rate of home birth compared to Lewisham, which takes more low risk women out of the equation. Although this is a slightly brave attempt to make the best of what does sound like a tiny unit! -

Forceful let down breastfeeding problem, anyone?
simonethebeaver replied to astrid83's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Breastfeeding brings out very complicated emotions in us, astrid. You're not being silly. I think you'd benefit from a good chat with a lactation consultant or peer supporter. We are lucky round here to have many breastfeeding cafes where they can be found. They provide excellent moral support and personalised practical advice. There has been at least one thread on here where local cafes have been listed but am on my phone so can't be that helpful. Both Southwark and Lambeth have their own cafes, and I'm sure at least one will be running tomorrow. -
Toddler swimming on Saturday mornings anywhere?
simonethebeaver replied to Undiscovered's topic in The Family Room Discussion
JAGS has a family swim session during the holidays on a Saturday morning. -
Ha! The kids in question were from Eliot Bank, so the pretentiousness has spread to Sydenham.

Am I making a horrible mistake? (Newborn naps)
simonethebeaver replied to Emski's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Like BlueSuperTed, with my number one, I basically let her do what she wanted and spent my time working out what that was. She is now a brilliant sleeper and napper, having been an appalling napper for the first few months. How they end up is luck of course, but not worrying about what you do now having any effect long term is the best thing you can do! -
Fasting before blood test - any tips?
simonethebeaver replied to Crokes's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Slow release carbs would be good. Oatcakes? With a bit of protein to slow them down even more, so cheese or hummous on them. You can make them pretty calorific if you try hard enough! Ice cream is also quite a good thing as the fat content makes the sugar release more slowly. Basically the sort of snacks that type II diabetics often have before bed, to keep their blood sugar levels more even through the night. -
When to disrupt schooling for a move?
simonethebeaver replied to simonethebeaver's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi, thanks all. Useful thoughts. Moving after A levels damn well means he'll be moving towards independence! Chief Jeff, I get your point, but the rest of us can't sit around in a house and area that isn't right for us just to provide a holiday home for a university student. I lost all contact with most of my school friends when I went to university for difficult reasons and we'll support him however we can if he wants to see them after we've moved. -
Two days ago I reported duplicate posts as they used a poster's real name and gave other personal details about him. Neither have been edited or removed. Is EDF policy not to deal with posts like this, as that makes me very wary of using the site.

Not an immediate concern but seeing the thread about DVI/DHJS has made me think. We have one child of 10 (yr 5), one of 2 and one of 0. Our plan is to leave London once our oldest finishes school, for various reasons. We have lots of longish term plans to work around this move so actually should start getting some idea of timings sooner rather than later. Ideally we need to move to get middle child into a new school no later than yr 6, for secondary applications. This fits with the end of eldest child's A levels, or whatever they will be by then. But would that be a nightmare for middle child, arriving for just a year of a new school? The alternative is to move after year 11, giving her three years at a different school. But would eldest child resent having to leave his friends at that age? Youngest child just gets pulled along obviously.

All three of the College ward councillors are very good. The others are Andy Simmons and Helen Hayes.

activity in the green and blue premises
simonethebeaver replied to davidh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Locale is a chain. GBK is a chain. Oddonos is a mini-chain. I think there'll be more opening. If you look at Clapham/Battersea the pattern is good quality independents, including Soif, and the slightly higher end chains. -
I would second Dish and Spoon. We had a party there and they provided a tea for the kids, and yummy meat and cheese platters for the grown ups. But we were offered lots of options. We took our own cake, the staff were friendly and there are toys there for the kids in between any organised party activities.
