If you use humane traps, don't forget to check them. My brother once found a mummified mouse in one. I once caught a mouse in one, but when I went to let it out (some distance from the house, in a field - this wasn't in London) the poor little thing was so terrified it wouldn't come out of the trap. I do wonder how humane they actually are. A quick snap of the back might have been kinder than putting it through all that trauma :( Of course then you've got to remove the mangled body......

Hydrangeas. Not all hydrangeas. Those big boring bright pink ones. They sit around all year with boring leaves, then they have horrible boring pink flowers. They take up space that nicer plants could be in. Oh, AND I just noticed today that my hair is going very grey grrrrrrr :(

We first went to Ghurka's Flavour on a Time Out offer, which was very good value and very nice food, and we went back a few times after that. Their momos are particularly yummy. However when we had stuff delivered, we had a few issues - I can't remember exactly what, but whatever it was, it put us off them unfortunately :(

Yes, unfortunately the (what seems to be) increasing trend round here to rip up grass and most of the plants and put down artificial grass, decking or paving and a few low maintenance plants in pots has removed food and habitats for birds and other living things, maybe including foxes? At least we still have woods and parks. And my partner saw a Gatekeeper butterfly up on Grove Allotments on Saturday, so some things are still hanging on in there :)

The old British Rail may have had its faults but nothing like what we've got now. Forgive me if this has already been covered or isn't relevant, as I haven't read the whole thread, but I got a survey form through my door today soliciting views on cancelling the Southern Railway franchise (I do realise the thread is on train cancellations and not the franchise!) Helen Hayes (MP) is apparently calling for Southern's franchise to be cancelled as a matter of urgency, and I guess the survey results would help bring this about. I'm not filling it in because I very rarely use trains these days and haven't experienced any problems, but if you do and you haven't received the survey form, you might want to contact them. It only gives an address, which is East Dulwich Labour Action Team, 264 Rosendale Road, London SE24 9DL, but it is easy to contact MPs online.

I think we would see some dead foxes about if that was the case? Like CivilServant, I have heard some fox activity at night lately.

I usually have a few around, but these are relatively huge numbers! They've been tapdancing in my guttering (which has no water in) and congregating in my bamboo :) One of them tapdancing had a bamboo leaf in its mouth. All very strange. And amongst them yesterday was what seemed to be a young goldfinch, so after years of doggedly putting out niger/nyger/nyjer seed for them, at last I have attracted - one :))

A whole flock (?) of sparrows has descended on my garden in the last couple of days. I'm not quite sure why!

I have a recording app on my phone. If you have, it might be worth trying to see if it can get a reasonable recording of the noise? It may not be strong enough though.
