So if you have ?2001 in your account you get no interest even on the first ?2000 until you bring the total below that amount? I printed out the terms and conditions last night, so I'll have a read. I've always been a nerd so far as small print is concerned :)) ETA: I've now read the Terms and Conditions, which say that credit interest is payable "on the FIRST ?2000" in your account, and is credited on the first working day of each month. I can't see any other relevant small print. Could you point me to where you saw the small print you are referring to?? ETA: It does say that you won't get credit interest if you haven't met the eligibility conditions in any monthly period, ie paying at least ?500 into the account and be registered for internet banking, paperless statements and paperless correspondence. Could that be the reason you had no interest?

New opportunity to save the woods!! Deadline Friday 23rd

Well, assuming Lewis/edborders meant their meeting with the church was at 11am, not 11pm, the group must now have some information to impart? Otta, :)) -
As far as I can see, you keep ?2,000 in there permanently as you would a savings account. You then transfer ?500 in a month by standing order, and have another standing order to transfer it back again. Once a month you check your balance and put anything over the two grand somewhere interest-earning. A slight hassle but not much of one. I make 5% of two grand ?100 (gross) a year. Then that's plus anything else you make on the other stuff. If the interest rate becomes no longer competitive, I would move the money out, but at present it is excellent compared to the paltry rates elsewhere. ETA: First Direct reduced the interest rate on their Regular Saver, but it's still a reasonable deal although because you're paying in monthly obviously only the first of the payments make the full interest as the last of the payments will only have been in there for a month or so by the year end. ETA: These amounts may seem relatively small to some EDers, however as a pensioner they seem worth while to me :) And I'm not a risk taker where my savings are concerned. ETA: Thanks, dbboy

Thanks rahrahrah. I think I'll go for it. I don't anticipate doing anything with the account that would actually need me to try out their customer service (famous last words) so touch wood all will be well.
-
It's the 5% I would be joining for! I'm already with First Direct and will keep that account on, though I think their service has deteriorated in the last couple of years. However it's still a lot better than other banks I've had occasional dealings with. There's a TSB in Peckham, but the account is an online one. I just don't want the hassle of poor customer service. Maybe no news is good news!

What are his interests? Meeting up with like minded people would seem like a good bet?

Thanks Blackcurrant.

Well, according to Lewis above, they are meeting with the church today at 11pm (sic). So perhaps we will know more in the early hours of tomorrow ..... -

Thanks, I didn't know you could set it to avoid the congestion charge. It once sent me past the front of Buckingham Palace, which was quite fun :) ETA: Ah. I have just realised you are talking about the app and I'm talking about google ....

Send to [email protected] > asap thanks! I think you'll find it rather unlikely that birds are nesting in January. This bird thing has only just been mentioned after eleven pages of thread. Your group didn't seem to care much about it before. Clutching at straws springs to mind. -

Much better > than a dedicated satnav. Just make sure it doesn't take you into the congestion zone, like blooming google satnav did. It might have been avoiding traffic, but it cost me (though at least I remembered to pay the charge!!) ETA: I didn't realise until too late, and in any case there was no way to turn round.

http://www.tsb.co.uk/current-accounts/ They're paying 5% interest on one current account, and 5% cashback on contactless payments. Not quite as simple as that, but a very good deal.

And they wouldn't > be doing at this time. Hang on a minute. You are now talking about two completely different issues. The birds who might have nested in the trees the council are about to cut down will be able to nest in other trees - of which there are plenty. That's a completely different issue to timing of the tree cutting to avoid disturbing nests which have already been built by the birds. ETA: To clarify, that's disturbing nests already built by the birds and being used for the current year's nesting, not (as below) old nests which may be being used for roosting. -
I'm thinking of opening a current account with TSB. Wondering how people have found their customer service as I've read mixed reviews.

edborders Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > LOL. Thank you, Sue. > > > Added - Sorry, I thought you were kidding. They > don't care about the birds. They care that they > have a legal requirement to not cut down trees > during the nesting season. How do you know they don't care about the birds? I used to work for a London council (not Southwark) and I can tell you that they cared a great deal about the birds, and it was not because of any legal requirement. Any contractor working for the council who interfered with nesting birds found themselves in a great deal of trouble. -

Oh no, can't be that, they must go there purely because it's MORE EXPENSIVE, silly me :)) Edited for spelling.

If you are referring to my picking you up on constantly using "would of" instead of "would have", exactly what argument have I been defeated in?

I've eaten there recently and the food was good then. The menu has improved (in my view) since they first opened. And they do children's portions.

He did accuse people of lying to him and laughing at him, but gave no specific examples. It was also him who first used the word "tossing", albeit in relation to the council workers putting logs into the nature reserve. You must admit it was difficult to resist the temptation. I did resist for some time .... But I agree, on the whole he has not been personally rude to people. It's not clear to me what he's hoping to achieve by this emergency meeting, unless he really is intending to chain himself to the trees. -

Yeh that's the one. The only weird bit is where you have to turn left just before Camberwell Green and go down a tiny side street to get onto the Walworth Road in order to go via Denmark Hill, otherwise you have to go straight on towards Peckham and turn right somewhere to get to ED, which can be a pain depending on traffic. It's well signposted, but still easy to miss if you don't know it's there :))
