New opportunity to save the woods!! Deadline Friday 23rd

They care that they > have a legal requirement to not cut down trees > during the nesting season. How do you know they don't care about the birds? I used to work for a London council (not Southwark) and I can tell you that they cared a great deal about the birds, and it was not because of any legal requirement. Any contractor working for the council who interfered with nesting birds found themselves in a great deal of trouble. -

Oh no, can't be that, they must go there purely because it's MORE EXPENSIVE, silly me :)) Edited for spelling.

If you are referring to my picking you up on constantly using "would of" instead of "would have", exactly what argument have I been defeated in?

I've eaten there recently and the food was good then. The menu has improved (in my view) since they first opened. And they do children's portions.

He did accuse people of lying to him and laughing at him, but gave no specific examples. It was also him who first used the word "tossing", albeit in relation to the council workers putting logs into the nature reserve. You must admit it was difficult to resist the temptation. I did resist for some time .... But I agree, on the whole he has not been personally rude to people. It's not clear to me what he's hoping to achieve by this emergency meeting, unless he really is intending to chain himself to the trees. -

Yeh that's the one. The only weird bit is where you have to turn left just before Camberwell Green and go down a tiny side street to get onto the Walworth Road in order to go via Denmark Hill, otherwise you have to go straight on towards Peckham and turn right somewhere to get to ED, which can be a pain depending on traffic. It's well signposted, but still easy to miss if you don't know it's there :))

Yeh, that was the one :)) ETA: What happened to missylewie, btw?? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1625565 ETA: I hope she wasn't a bona fide first time poster and got frightened off :( -

His time would be better spent working to save endangered species - like the stag beetles which may hopefully take up residence in the logs to be "tossed" by the council into the adjoining nature reserve. Let's hope the "tossing" doesn't crush any of them. Very tempted to use the "tossing" word again but slightly changing the ending, but I'm uncharacteristically resisting. Hard :)) -

The Edgware Road/Park Lane/Victoria/Vauxhall route comes through central London but avoids the congestion charge altogether at all times and days (provided you don't stray from the route by mistake, as I did once). If you look online there is a map.

I'm not sure how a petition is going to help? Have you spoken to Southwark Noise Control about it? If they receive constant complaints from you and your other neighbours, and the noise really is that loud, that would seem the best way forward.

Lewis, I've asked you twice now and you haven't replied either time. So I'll try for a third time. Who has lied to you? Who has laughed at you? If in fact nobody from either the council or the church has lied to you or laughed at you, do you not think you should apologise for writing in a post above that they have? -
Does anybody else remember that short-lived place selling oysters and champagne at enormous expense which opened in the market which was there before the Brick House?? They were in the space on the left just as you went in. They seemed to think that people would pay an arm and a leg to sit in the less than salubrious surroundings of the market and sip champagne. And there was a stall just selling oysters in the market for a time, as well (not the same people).

As we don't have either of those shops round here (yet) I don't shop in them, let alone buy their prosecco :)) And PLEASE PLEASE stop writing "would of" and "could of" instead of "would have" and "could have", it's driving me (even more) round the bend :))

Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Oysters are eaten to > make the person feel good, they enjoy the process > of eating it and the price, that's my opinion. But Louisa, that may be your opinion, but can you not see that it is a gross generalisation and basically just ridiculous? Just because other people also have stupid opinions doesn't make yours any less stupid, sorry. Can people not eat something just because they like it? They may be eating it because they can afford to, but that's a completely separate issue. I won a bottle of champagne in a tombola thing in the Summer, and it was a revelation. I can tell you, if I could afford it I would drink champagne, and it would have nothing to do with the price. It would be because it tasted a bloody sight nicer than prosecco from the Co-Op :)) ETA: On the other hand, I don't like caviar, and wouldn't eat it even if I won the lottery :)

I suggest you have no evidence whatsoever on which to base your opinion, which is presented as fact.

And Indian restaurants quite often have lamb shank on their menu, which is not particularly expensive compared to the other stuff. And you can buy cooked mussels in Sainsbury's for ?2 for 200g which are excellent for fish soup. I had forgotten you could cook oysters, maybe I need to try them cooked and I might change my mind :)

They will take it from private property whether they know it's up for grabs or not, if it's out the front and visible from the pavement. And if you remonstrate they will tell you to mind your own business. As happened to me.

The council appears to be making a distinction between preparatory work and other work. So I'm still not clear who you say has lied to you and laughed at you?
