I think we should be grateful we have a councillor who is so willing to listen and to act on local issues raised, whether or not you agree with his stance on all of them. Many councillors in this country take their money and do the absolute minimum.

Yet another thread? How many is that now??

A stupid stupid relative broke off a vital part of my bathroom taps over Christmas (the diverter lever for the bath/shower). It was accidental but considerable force must have been used :( The taps are discontinued and the manufacturer still has some parts but (sod's law strikes again) not this one. Does anybody have any idea where I might be able to get either the part or (more likely) the tap set? I've googled, obviously. Unfortunately it turns out that places which appeared to have it in stock just get it from the manufacturer when someone orders it, and aren't aware it's been discontinued. I am getting a plumber to look at it but don't hold out much hope. There's a tiny bit of thread left on the lever, so I've been able to reattach it in a rather unstable wobbly sort of way, but most of the rest of the thread appears to be left inside the spout plinth :( It took me ages to find taps I liked, and if I have to replace the whole lot I'll have to replace the basin taps as well. To say I'm furious is an understatement. They're Heritage Fairport Shaker 4 Hole Bath Shower Mixer TSC074 (just in case anyone has a spare set hanging around - I should be so lucky). Really hoping someone on here knows of a brilliant spares supplier or something!!!

Blimey, I gave up smoking years ago. 40 a day and 60 a day at weekends. Obv this was in the days when you could chain smoke in the office. I should be a millionaire by now. How come I'm not??

If you do it exponentially you will very soon be bankrupt :)) ETA: Unless I've forgotten what exponential means - quite likely :))

But they don't let you drink much on the days you actually are drinking .....

There seemed to be quite a few places open? We had no problem at all finding a place for lunch today, and Oddono's was open had we wanted ice cream. ETA: Ooops just seen this is referring to yesterday, but Franco Manca was open yesterday and we had yet another yummy pizza :)

Where to watch fireworks with a 2 year old
Sue replied to Janibarr's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So where did you go in the end, and did your son enjoy the fireworks? Hope so :) -

Great walks in countryside near East Dulwich

These walks will now be full of people from East Dulwich :)) ETA: Including me :)) -
Perhaps people who want no noise at all, ever, after their children's bedtime should move to some more isolated place than Inner London near a football ground? But then of course there are likely to be owls, and the sounds of screaming small animals being carried off/eaten by the owls. Every night, not twice a month. What is DHFC to do, conduct every evening match in complete silence? Anyway, as someone said above, sleepy children will sleep, and once asleep noise will not (in my experience) wake them up. Nightmares might, or illness, but not external noise. And I still don't understand, if noise is such an issue for him (her?), why the OP sees double glazing as a "red herring"? "The greatest good for the greatest number" springs to mind here, from a community point of view.

There are quite a few books with titles like "Country walks near London" and "Walks in the Country Near London", plus there are also walks within London which are almost like being in the country, eg along the Thames between Richmond and Kew. Also Sydenham Hill Woods, just up the road, though they're getting quite crowded these days :) -

You don't see them on sale much any more. Frozen was a fad (it's a Disney movie which was much loved by kids around the age of 6. Now it's not cool ( :)) ) any more Franco Manca is not a fad. It's a very good pizza restaurant which I'm sure will still be around in several years' time. fad fad/ noun noun: fad; plural noun: fads an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived; a craze.

beagle1 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Double glazing is a red herring! Why is that? I installed double glazing in my bedroom because intermittent (but frequent) noise from outside (not planes) was disturbing my sleep every night and in the morning. Seems like a good solution to me if this apparent noise twice a month is causing such distress?
