  1. I live in a street of terraced houses. I have just remembered that a house diagonally opposite to mine had major subsidence in their bay, which was propped up with scaffolding etc for some time. This was some years before my issues in my bay started. The reason I'm posting this here is that there is a large tree outside their house as well. The tree is still there, so I'm assuming that the tree was not the cause of their subsidence either. There is also no sign of further cracking, so I assume that whatever remedial measures were undertaken worked. Of course trees CAN cause subsidence, but that is two incidences locally where very bad subsidence was not due to a street tree outside the house. I don't know the actual cause in that case (though I could find out, as the then owner has moved but still lives locally) but my suspicion is that it was the same as mine, as all the terraced houses would have been built at the same time.
  2. Crikey, the original post is from 2009! That video shows the ED police station being in Crystal Palace Road (on the corner of Upland Road). I didn't think that building had ever been a police station, though it had some connection with the police? Is anyone on here who was living in ED in 1973 and can confirm one way or the other?
  3. That's a bit fishy! (sorry, I know the situation isn't at all funny. Probably worth asking Ellie Reeves to intervene yet again?)
  4. That's a really interesting article, thank you for posting it! Their poll at the end won't take any more submissions, but in any case there is no way to vote for more than one of the three options, whereas surely the site could be used for more than one of them?

    COVID jabs

Is anyone else getting inundated with texts asking them to book a jab? From a no reply possible source? I've already booked mine, and still the texts keep coming. Surely there must be some central NHS database somewhere?
  6. Some of the possible reasons for Arapina's closure have been discussed on here on other threads.
  7. I agree. I am all in favour of cycling, but our area has hills in every direction. I had the best of intentions. I actually applied to have one of the first bike hangars installed in my road, and then got a bike, and had lessons. For various reasons this didn't work out for me, and the hills plus my being ancient didn't help. My bike went to a refugee, which was one good thing that came out of a sorry saga (for me). But that doesn't mean that cycling shouldn't be strongly encouraged for everybody who can! Those who can't must be a quite small minority, surely. You can get off the bike and push it up hills, after all. And for those who can afford one, I gather that electric bikes are brilliant!
  8. Careful. You're being sarcastic there. The forum police will be upon you 🤣 The community garden outside Dulwich Hospital, which we and others put a lot of time and effort into raising money for, building and planting, was trashed by whoever rebuilt the hospital. Despite their assurances that it wouldn't be. I'm not sure which is worse, that or theft/vandalism 😢
  9. Where is the pool in Camberwell?
  10. No idea, but whatever it was was backing up the traffic right up Lordship Lane. There were four way (it said) lights before the roadworks, and a whole lane of the road dug up (on the station side).
  11. Not sure why the laughing emoji from Alice? It is also my experience that it is mostly cars (and in my experience the P13 at night, though I presume that may be one particular driver) speeding down Underhill. I'm no more worried about walking on Underhill at night than I would be anywhere else. It's sensible to be aware of your surroundings wherever you are.
  12. I'm getting too confused now, for several reasons, so I'm not going to continue this in case my brain explodes 🤣
  13. Passed there today on the bus. There were people working on them, and no apparent disruption to traffic. The road being dug up outside ED station seemed to be causing much worse problems when I passed on Monday.
  14. Surely it wasn't the charity shop which made someone volunteer or be sanctioned by the benefits people? Surely it must have been the benefits people (?DSS?) Also, how do you know those £35 jeans cost £40 new? Apologies if you looked the price up, but some designer jeans cost a lot more than £40!
  15. It's a forum, people go off on tangents, cut them a bit of slack! Sorry, forgot to quote, that's in reply to Jazzer Btw Malumbu, I thought the end of Concords being built was after one of them crashed. As you were ... ETA: Ah. What happens when you reply to a post without quoting it. The poster deletes it and the content is lost to posterity, except in the memories of those who read it before it was deleted!
  16. I'm in Ulverscroft Road, and I too had Concord flying over (I thought it was at 5pm, but maybe the time changed when the clocks went forwards or back?) . I loved it. Such a beautiful plane. It seemed to be directly over my garden, but I guess everyone thought that 🤣
  17. The other side of this is that in the past some charity shops had no idea of the value of some of their donations, and hence lost money which could have gone to their good cause. I have a beautiful Zandra Rhodes jacket/coat which I bought from a local charity shop some years back for £20 (I think it was). I've only dared wear it once, for a family member's "significant birthday" celebration. It is very distinctive, and also clearly labelled. The person who served me even told me I was getting a bargain, which begs many questions. Oxfam have always seemed to be much better at pricing their more valuable donations, especially since they started selling them online.
  18. Shaun the Sheep would be even better! 😂
  19. Vale Pharmacy by the roundabout answer their phone.
  20. Funnily enough, I was just lying in bed and hearing a really loud plane. I couldn't think what was wrong, until I realised I had the window open! When I closed the window, I really noticed a massive difference!
