  1. How can a supermarket "run out of gas"? Was that a joke? The Metro article is referring to the central gas supply, surely? Which hasn't actually run out yet. I said "local" press. And the reason would be that the bad publicity might push Sainsbury's head office to improve what sound like presently appalling conditions for their DKH staff to work in. Yes of course there are terrible things happening all over the world. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to change things which we might be able to have an immediate impact on locally.
  2. I really don't want to get involved in this tedious discussion, but I do feel obliged to point out that the data you have given in no way supports your statement that the council is "setting traps to generate revenue from PCNs"! All it shows is an increase in the number of PCNs issued year on year It doesn't even give an indication of whether these are related to an increase in traffic volume, though even if they weren't your statement would still not follow from the data. Maybe you should do a course in logic? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy
  3. If everybody boycotted the DKH Sainsbury's, no doubt the heating would quickly be either turned up or fixed 🤬 Any journalists on here who would like to publicise it in the local press?
  4. Sadly not any more, see my edit above. May now be 2am for some houses 😭
  5. It's back on now, earlier than forecast, hooray for the electricity workers out in the cold and dark! ETA: Spoke too soon, some houses in the same area have lost power again or for the first time, apparently there is a larger underlying fault. It seems quite random which houses are affected each time.
  6. Just heard 250 houses. Substation fault in Lacon Road. Hopefully may be fixed tonight 😭
  7. Some houses in Ulverscroft Road and I gather Whateley and Fellbrigg have a power cut. Any other roads?
  8. Probably, in the freezer 🤣
  9. To read that, I have to sign up to get some kind of communications from the Telegraph 🤬
  10. This doesn't surprise me in the least, having once had a discussion with someone at their HQ. But Sainsbury's in general are awful, in my opinion. I only go to the DKH Sainsbury's now if I have to pick up something from Argos, and I never use them for deliveries. In the olden days, aka my childhood, Sainsbury's had such a good reputation, too, albeit before they became supermarkets. How things change. ETA: Come to think of it, I do also go there to take my plastic recycling once I have a big bag of it, and I did get passport photos there, so it's not all bad 😂
  11. Oh crikey, blast from the past!
  12. My partner told me the other day that he had seen some in Southwark Park, and he had never seen any there before. I've only ever seen them near water, eg by the stream on the walk between Merton and Carshalton. Hoping I might get some in the garden now, it would make a nice change from sparrows, great tits and the robin, lovely as they are 😀

    Gift Aid

Thanks, I'll call them. I don't think the letters would be sent out from the shop, so it's more likely that the info line would know.
  14. There was some discussion about that on here when White Stuff closed, but I can't see how to link to it. If you do a search on Oliver Bonas the posts will come up. One said Oliver Bonas was closing as well, and another one said it might now take over the White Stuff site. But that was quite a while ago, so who knows.
  15. Thanks Ianr. I've attached a screenshot of the bit where East Dulwich is mentioned. But why are they still calling it East Dulwich delivery office? It hasn't been in East Dulwich since the delivery office in Sylvester Road was closed. I wonder what "targeted support" they are providing to the East Dulwich aka Peckham office, and what "challenges" they think it has?
  16. Well it's a pity that Mother Nature doesn't do her bit a bit faster round here 🤣

    Gift Aid

Is there some easy way of finding out how much Gift Aid the hospice shop has made from my donations? I have emails from Oxfam, but nothing from St Christopher's, even though I have donated more to them! I know I could ask in the shop, but I imagine the Gift Aid admin is run from elsewhere.
  18. Oh Malumbu. Sorry, malumbu, no cap M. Have you got weary of the "discussions" in the transport section?! Was "making a load" a typo? Did you mean "loss"? I think I may start a thread in the lounge for discussions which are completely pointless, because nobody is going to persuade anybody else to change their view, however strong they believe their case to be! A bit like politics, I suppose.
  19. That's also in the same area as Ulverscroft, Fellbrigg and North Cross Roads. Ulverscroft and Fellbrigg Roads both run between North Cross Road and Whateley Road. Might someone have seen anything on their door cameras (no idea what they are called as I don't have one) ?
  20. Does Southwark noise control phone line still exist? You could try contacting them, if so?
  21. To be fair, I have found the system for changing a Royal Mail delivery very easy. But Royal Mail deliveries have nothing to do with the potential closure of some Crown post offices! The "vital front door for that sector" doesn't have to be Crown Post Office branches.
  22. You seem to have had a run of bad luck, but I don't understand some of what you say. What do you mean by each shop requiring a different bar code etc? Surely you only have one thing to show for each package you are sending or collecting? Don't you get an email or some other kind of notification which contains the thing you have to show? Are you suggesting that it would be easier to queue up at the Post Office than do it at a shop? You have to show barcodes etc there as well. Where did I ever imply that anybody was "thick" or a "troglodyte"? I did suggest that some people wanted to hang onto the old ways of doing things, like only using cash, that's true. And it isn't that this country "can't run a decent, simple post office." It's that Crown post offices are losing money by maintaining buildings which are expensive to run, whilst no longer providing the range of services they used to, because for various reasons they are no longer needed. And the services which are still needed can be more cost effectively provided elsewhere without causing undue inconvenience to customers. Things move on. But in any case, nothing has been decided yet. The closure of the Lordship Lane post office is just a proposal. I hate self service tills 🤣
  23. Interesting. Same area. Someone doing a circular walk with their dog?
  24. Ulverscroft Road, for one place. And one dog owner (or possibly dog walker) seems to think that if the dog poo is in the gutter, that makes it ok. 🤬🤮
  25. I've never once had a problem with collecting parcels from shops. Perhaps you don't know how to use the relevant app/s? Royal Mail deliveries by the postie (my regular postie is lovely as well) have nothing to do with the Crown Post Offices. But I can't understand why you would want even more stuff delivered that way when the delivery service seems to be struggling already? And many people living in terraced houses in this area don't have a place to "leave stuff safely". I imagine that the huge queues out the door in Lordship Lane are there for a number of reasons. These could include: very slow service by some members of staff, lack of alternative options (such as parcel lockers) offered for you to collect parcels you don't want delivered to your home, people being unaware of some of the alternative options there are for sending a parcel, eg being able to print a label at home and have a parcel collected from your home. people not being able or willing to go to the Post Office at less busy times (often I have not had to wait at all). I genuinely can't understand why some people are so keen to see the Post Office continue to lose shedloads of money by running high street offices at a loss when there are other suitable ways to provide their services locally. What is so special about the Lordship Lane post office (and other Crown post offices)? Do they hold treasured childhood memories for people, or something? Is it a fear of change, or what?
