  1. I'm not really interested in contributing to a thread which this particular OP has started, and his "apology" seems to consist of having a go at two regular forum contributors. This forum is a community as well, albeit an online one.
  2. JimJam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue, how is that helping? Why would you post > that? What is the thread called? I see that > others have been rude as well. > xxxxxxx Because I think the OP is being hypocritical to say the least.
  3. JimJam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > He > also outlined that this thread was to come up with > solutions, not to have a go at each other. > xxxxxx So why did he have a go at people, then?

  5. He's obviously talking about some other community than "our" community ..... "They" are clearly not "us" .....
  6. That kind of PM is just bullying. Pathetic.
  7. I'd be very interested in being involved in this. I think it's a great concept.
  8. louisiana Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm kind of surprised that the guy (who lives in > Sevenoaks) who wrote "They shoot each other" (and > various other equally interesting pieces of text) > is now starting some thread that certain others > are responding to. Amazing. Really. xxxxxxx Indeed.
  9. Referring to improving "our community" when he lives in Sevenoaks and has been dissing East Dulwich on another thread is a bit much, in my opinion.
  10. edcam's post is not relevant either, so why has that not been removed?
  11. I know that now - as I brought it in on Thursday evening, I did not think it could be the same cat, as that one was reported as having gone missing on Friday night. Also its condition led me to assume it did not have an owner :-$ I would have kept it a day or two before bringing it to the rescue centre, but couldn't as I was going away. I didn't see the notices until yesterday.
  12. edcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This thread is starting to remind me of that > utterly tasteless one about Madeleine McCann. > None of this speculation is helping anyone. xxxxxx Please don't compare the two threads. I started the Madeleine McCann thread in order to state facts which the British press has ignored. Other posters chose to ignore those facts also and instead have a go at me for having the temerity to suggest that all is not always what it seems. Some posters on this thread have made vile, irrelevant, ill-timed and/or racist comments when one of the few known facts is that a young man is dead in tragic circumstances. His friends and relatives must be absolutely distraught. And if anyone wants to start having a go again about the other thread, please don't send this thread further off track, please PM me.
  13. Somebody has put up notices in Ulverscroft Road re a sixteen year old black cat with one tooth which went missing on Friday night. This would be quite near the Mag. I'll contact them tomorrow.
  14. That's a shame about Jaisalmer. Oh well.
  15. Louisiana, I do think you're exaggerating somewhat - are you trying to scare him?! Varanasi is hardly very big, for a start, so it's unlikely that a driver there would get lost. Anyway my recollection is that you would more likely get a rickshaw than a taxi there. Though maybe things have changed. The only time I have ever been "abandoned" when travelling was being chucked off a bus in Jakarta (Java) miles from where I wanted to be :-S
  16. I never got ill in India, but I did get quite sick in Australia :)) If you are careful (and yes, obviously have the recommended jabs etc before you go) you should be fine.
  17. I was in Varanasi around that time of year, it was fine (albeit twenty years ago!), not at all daunting. Don't remember it as a place where we were particularly ripped off. Arrived there quite late at night and seem to remember a scary time being led through dark narrow alleys, but all was well. Stayed in a hotel near the river (ie not in the posh bit) which was fine. Best time to take photos is very early in the morning by the river, when the ceremonies take place. You can get a boat and take photos from there, it's all very atmospheric. Only downside of Varanasi was it's hard to buy beer, being a Hindu holy place, and if you find a place which sells it they hide you out of sight :)) However I have to say the only place in India where from memory we didn't get really hassled was Jaisalmer. Oh and Poona, but that was a different trip. On the whole I didn't like India either, it was quite a disappointment. Nepal was much more chilled. And quite easy to get to from Varanasi if you have a visa and fancy straying over the border.
  18. thebestnameshavegone Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Wow, this is great! > > East Dulwich, September 2010: 341 'suspicious' men > seen in Goose Green Area. xxxxxxx Would love to know how they define "suspicious" :) What do you reckon their criteria are? I can't even get onto the ED part of the site, it took forever to load, then came up with a blank page :))
  19. I've just had a really useful discussion with somebody from the Energy Saving Trust who gave me loads of information. If you phone 0800 512 012 they can tell you which organisations are working in this area under the grants scheme. I did have an online chat first but they asked me to phone. I'm going to have the Nationwide Energy Services people come tomorrow to see what they say, but I might end up using someone else.
  20. I've found this, and I'm very tempted to get a second survey done to see if they say the same thing .... http://www.government-grants.co.uk/loft-insulation-grants.shtml
  21. I was previously under the impression that, as you say, there were only grants available to the over 70s, and that the government in any case was changing the scheme after April this year. However NES say that anybody is entitled to a grant worth 80% of the cost of installation, both for labour and materials. They also do cavity wall insulation, also via a grant. However my walls are solid (I hope!) brick. I'm going to check it out properly before I give them the go-ahead, will see what the surveyor says tomorrow.
  22. Has anybody used this company? Nationwide Energy Services I was cold-called this morning, thought it was a scam and told them I wasn't interested, but having done a bit of research it seems they are bona fide. I have a surveyor coming tomorrow for a "free, no-obligation blah blah blah" and as far as I understand it they act as middle men/women for an 80% government grant to bring my loft up to the recommended standard. They've said I would pay around ?149 but that could vary up or down subject to the survey, and that this is cheaper than other companies (they quoted British Gas for one, as charging ?199). Anyone used them? Were you happy? Can I get this done cheaper elsewhere? My loft is currently part-insulated and part-boarded, I haven't done anything to it in the twenty years I've been here :-$ . It was on my very long house "to do" list (mainly getting previous builder's work done properly and/or finished (6)) but somewhere near the bottom :))
  23. Great pic, ComputedShorty :) I remember a street party in Hopton Road in Streatham for the coronation.
