I don't know where to post this. Can anyone help with what I presume is a software issue? There seems to have been some recent Microsoft update. I have had issues for some time because since my hard drive was replaced I have had two users on my laptop instead of one. Long story. I only need one. Also. My files are backed up by Carbonite, therefore I don't need OneDrive. Someone was supposed to have removed OneDrive, but this hasn't happened and stuff is being saved to OneDrive by default. Each time I "save as" it goes to OneDrive and I have to manually change it which is a real pain. Now, as of this morning, I started my laptop to find a message from Microsoft asking me to set something up. Which I said "later" to. Now when I save a file I can't necessarily find it again, because they seem to be going all over the place. 😭 I am scared to try to sort this out myself in case I make things worse. I am going to see if Carbonite can help, but meantime does anybody know what might be going on? All I want is for all my files to be saved in the same place, where I can find them 😭

I have fond memories of getting bacon rolls and coffee there at (what seemed like) crack of dawn for us and the crew building the stage for the live music on Goose Green for Dulwich Festival Fair. Didn't use it much otherwise, but will be sorry to see it go, as it was sort of comforting to know it was there ❤️. A relic of the "old" East Dulwich. Does anybody apart from me remember the Dream Machine which used to be underneath it? I loved that place so much! It was like being a student again!

Now that you can get kettles which boil water in about a zillionth of a second (I exaggerate slightly) I can't see the point, unless You are very impatient You don't have space for a kettle You have more money than you know what to do with You can go without boiling water every time it goes wrong, because you no longer have a kettle You see it as a status symbol You don't care about the environment or about saving energy You don't need the space under your sink for anything else I'm sure there must be more reasons to have one. I briefly considered it when I got my new kitchen, but I didn't consider it for long 😂

KOKUM Indian restaurant & bar
Sue replied to Simeron Lily Patel's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes it's expensive, and so is the alcohol! Mostly wine, and cocktails such as an overpoweringly cardamom flavoured negroni. If you prefer lager, very small glasses of it. They are clearly not trying to attract the vindaloo and six pints Saturday night crowd, if those people still exist 🤣 -
I'd have thought frozen food wouldn't be accepted anywhere, because you couldn't tell if it had been thawed (and if so for how long) and then refrozen. For some things this probably wouldn't matter, except for possible loss of quality (?) but for other things it could be a health hazard.

Laundrette/Laundry Service Recommendations
Sue replied to kmitchell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Maybe the process used has changed then. Or maybe it depends on the filling. But you certainly didn't used to be able (sorry for bad grammar) to have them dry cleaned, because of the chemicals used. And dry cleaners did certainly used to (bad grammar again) take them in for cleaning and then just send them to a local launderette. Without letting on to their customers, obviously! -
Is that the one outside the prefab on Lordship Lane? If so, yes it is, and has wonderful displays of other flowers, eg dahlias, at different seasons! There was a prefab next door which has been demolished and other housing built on the land. I imagine the same will happen to this one when the present occupant is no longer there, so sadly the garden will go with it.

Laundrette/Laundry Service Recommendations
Sue replied to kmitchell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Local dry cleaners just use local launderettes, and up the price. Or at least that's what used to happen at the dry cleaners near the Post Office, according to a launderette. You used to see the duvets piled up in their window. If they still do this, they must hide them somewhere! You can't dry clean duvets. -
Thanks all!

Thanks, no offence to Sainsbury's , but I'd rather it went straight to a food bank. -

Now Lloyds has closed, is there anywhere else locally who takes old medication? I thought all pharmacies were supposed to do this, but I seem to remember having had problems in the past.

Eh?

You called? Like Alexa, I listen once I hear the wake word 😂 Or were you referring to taking legal action against people obstructing the pavements of East Dulwich?

Does anybody have up to date details of opening times for this please, or a link giving recent details? I have some packets of food I'd like to donate, but I don't want to take it up there and find it closed. I have googled, but have found different information in different places online. Alternatively, is there another food bank in SE22?

😮😮😮 I can't believe I just read that. I agree with Malumbu, move it to the family section where it may be more likely to be read (and hopefully commented on) by local parents. My mouth is still open. Let alone the buggies, it is only common courtesy if two or more people are walking side by side for one or more of them to move if someone else needs to pass!

Now I'm intrigued to know what your original post was! Not sure that's grammatical ...

Take a screenshot (or screenshots) of the text on your mobile and then email the screenshot/s to yourself? Then print out the screenshot/s? Depends what you want the text for obviously. If you wanted to edit it you couldn't do it that way, you would have to type it all out again into something like Word, then print it out from there. Though I can print direct from my mobile to my printer. What is the format of the text on your phone? How did it get there in the first place? Ah. Just realised you might mean text as in text message, rather than text in general. In which case, email yourself a screenshot?

The best place for a sandwich in East Dulwich?
Sue replied to Katherty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Heritage Cheese is excellent, with very friendly staff. Just for goodness sake don't go to Au Ciel next door by mistake (or on purpose). I don't know what on earth has happened to it, as their sign is still the same, but we had absolutely appalling service there recently - the staff didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing - and then we had to wait over half an hour for two paninis (they weren't busy). I know it was over half an hour, because the order time was on the receipt. When we eventually asked where our paninis were, we were told (in a not very polite way) that other people were in front of us and their toasties had had to be done first. Said toasties had been delivered long ago to tables next to ours. They had been eaten - and the toastie orderers had left - before we asked where our food was 🙄 We assumed that our order had just been forgotten 🙄 When finally our paninis arrived, there was no apology. They were ok, the fillings seemed fresh, but by that time we would have eaten anything. The whole vibe of the place has changed. Chocolatier and patisserie, as their sign still says? No chocolates in evidence, and a few cheap and boring looking cakes under glass, plus a generally uncared for feel. Can anyone explain this descent into awfulness? A look at online reviews also shows a change from previous glowing reviews to more recent experiences like ours. We ate there because it was a bitterly cold day and we wanted to be inside, otherwise we would have got the famed sandwiches from Heritage Cheese! -
Pair Of Great Spotted woodpeckers? Lucky you! https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/great-spotted-woodpecker Maybe the squirrel was injured, ill or already dead?

I rarely eat meat, but surely veggie haggis just isn't haggis, and as for vegan black pudding .... You could just have the neeps?! 🤣

Which is the best curry restaurant on Lordship Lane?
Sue replied to bh28's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I just assumed they were probably using the same kitchen equipment, which Ganapati had left. I don't think the menus are particularly similar? Being South Indian, they are bound to have dosas etc? If they were related to Ganapati, I would have thought they would have kept the name, as Ganapati has such a good reputation? We no longer go to Dulwich Tandoori, for reasons unconnected with the food. I agree Millennium is excellent for takeaways.
