  1. I think the people behind Baytree deserve some positive recognition for the effort they're making. They've obviously designed the web site themselves using MS and therefore not expert web designers nor well versed in Marketing speak. However they are putting their money and time into the business as well as seemingly providing us with another alternative to the big 5.
  2. I thought he'd stopped sniffing! Ever seen him at Ronnies? Pure party!
  3. All taxes are a neccesary evil (or penalty these days if you drive a 4x4 or have a successful career). The way they are formulated dictates their fairness or unfairness and I guess that depends largely on how we vote in governments (please not Redwood). As we're all in different circumstances, some will be more heavily taxed than others. There will always be losers and less losers as well as tragic cases like the two old sisters that share the same home but can not afford to pay duties should one of them die. The main problem I have with IHT is the threshold which should probably be closer to ?500k or more.
  4. I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the end your right to say it ........................Voltaire
  5. Theme tune from my childhood! Haven't seen the Ad but I guess it enters the Innocent/MacDonalds debate on similar lines.
  6. I often wonder what ED'ers are up to whilst browsing/contributing to the EDF? At the moment I'm chilling in the garden with a cigar and a drink but normally I'm working in Photoshop. What about you?
  7. I can't think of any of my friends under the age of 25 that still live at home. In fact most of them would welcome the idea of their parents "moving on" so that they could sell the house less IHT and enjoy spending it whilst they're still young enough (assuming they were written into the will). The people that this will effect the most is the very wealthy. You'll probably get more support in the Village than ED. Another desperate Tory gimmick.
  8. I've just seen Elvis enjoying a beer with Paris at The Bishop;-)
  9. Letchworth - Acclaimed throughout the world as the ?home? of town planning
  10. MP isn't that just a motorbike with 4 wheels? Wouldn't you prefer one of these Vvvvrrrrrrmmmmmm
  11. Louisa you seem to have become a victim of the kind of crap newspapers love to regurgitate in order to sell papers by lighting up our imaginations with a feeling of mass hysteria, be it on immigration, gun crime, bird flu or attacks on trains. The perception is far worse than the truth. The attack you describe is tragic but in the context of numbers of passengers multiplied by train journeys multiplied by days in the year it is incredibly rare. Pick up any paper, or even listen to the news and there are far more stories about car crashes, pile ups etc. This doesn't motivate you to start a thread about the dangers of driving and why you prefer to walk everywhere. But then again if you read the Daily Mail it's unlikely you'd survive a walk down to the CPT without being mugged, stabbed, shot and somehow crammed into a suitcase and set on fire!
  12. Were we made in his image? Did he create ED in 7 days? Can he promote DHFC to the Premiership? Perhaps the next EDF drinks should be held in Salisbury!
  13. I agree with you Louisa. I was once travelling on a packed tube train on the way to work and unknowingly wearing two different shoes. Nobody bothered to say anything. Imagine my embarrassment at the office!
  14. Why SE5? Because Cloak (I won't 'clear off' because i've spent sevreal hundred thousand pounds on buying a large property in this area.) would find it rather uncomplimentary. I have good memory's of living in SE5 and my children were also born at KCH so no deliberate intention of dissing SE5. However since this tangential issue has been raised, both have their pro's and cons but out of choice I'd rather live in SE22 than SE5. My opinion based on my personal experience.
  15. Judging by the lateness of his posts I'd say he's a frustrated Sous Chef (signature dish - Toad in the Hole) working in a cafe somwehere in SE5 struggling to meet his mortgage payments and possibly being abused by Mrs (dagger?) for the lack of disposal income due to his aspirations to live in ED! Oh, nearly forgot, he also walks with a limp in his left leg and has a strange birth mark on his cheek. However, nice burger recipe, will give it a go if the weather holds. Got any more Cloak? Still time to redeem/reveal yourself.
  16. The only gun issues I had in SA were with the idiots carrying them for self defence (allegedly) who mostly shoot themselves or friends by accident! I was threatened with a gun in North London 15 years ago but those were different times. Nowadays a gun seems to be used all too indiscriminately by an element of youth that are unpredictable and play by different rules than you and I. In SA you more or less knew where you were likely to get held up and could at least take some preventative action like not stopping at robots. Now it seems renting a DVD (or video) is on the list of hazhards.
  17. William Hill opposite the Plough DIY on LL was held up by kids with guns a couple of months ago. They robbed the customers and the cashiers. Nowadays if I get cut up by a youth pushing out db's in a Fiat punto I think twice before stopping my car and hurling abuse. I'm now beginning to think it's safer in Jo'burg.
  18. Great read, thanks! Fascinating history.
  19. What a brilliant map! Where's it from? I lived in the shadow of Dawsons Heights and never realised there was a Bronze Age burial mound close by and always wondered where Donkey Alley got it's name from? Anything else in the archives Brendan?
  20. take me to your leader
  21. Wot a South African that knows sod all about rugby? Are you sure? That's like an eskimo that cant sledge!
  22. Jeremy when you say "relieved" I hope that wasn't on the bus therefore upsetting the driver more!
  23. I must say I do feel sorry for bus drivers. Given the number of people they come into contact with each day who are not always pleasant and the mind numbing job they do it's not surprising they may not always be in the best of moods. Nero you might've been the umpteenth person to give him grief that day. Unfortunately they're not trained to respond in a programmed customer care call center tone (thankfully). Give it a few more years and Honda will give us robot bus drivers.
