  1. Having lunch at an Italian in Jo'burg when the first tower was hit. I remember the restaurant owner, Fabio, coming over half in tears and not making much sense. Switched on the TV back in my office and moments later the second tower disintegrated. Surreal experience as I had colleagues and friends in NY (not in the towers) and one didn't know what to expect next. My wife went over to Brooklyn two weeks later and relayed back the stench, carnage and emotional shock.
  2. Seeking recomendations on somewhere that is less child friendly seems a fairly reasonable request. However the behavioural problem is not a class issue but more a cultural one. It seems in this country we seem to lean towards separating children from adults rather than encouraging more integration as we see on Continental Europe. It's absolutely normal to see families in restaurants well into the evening, especially in Spain and Italy. Perhaps if we integrated our children into more aspects of our lives instead of this Victorian "seen but not heard attitude" we'd suffer far less from some of the cultural problems the UK seems to lead the way on (teen alcoholics, teen single mothers, drug abuse etc, etc). I often see people looking uncomfortable around kids, scared to show emotions like smiling back, playing or even telling them off because they're afraid someone will think they're a paedo.
  3. I very much doubt that it will be Simply Food and if it was it wouldn't conflict that much with the majority of the other shops on that crossroads nor would it stop me supporting Val's grocery and the newsagents next door. The local traders I've spoken to are second guessing the development and I reckon it's a fairly safe bet that they will be mostly individual retail units with residential accommodation above. If it smartens that strip up it cant be a bad thing. Perhaps a Foxtons 2, like DVR. Loosely on thread can anyone tell me what the French restaurant, Le Moulin is like?
  4. I can echo David Mc's last post re the excellent team at Windsor Walk and the benefits of Champix. I've quit for 6 months now after 30 years. Yipee!!! Back on thread, if it helps D'Mc, I warned the Pharmacy prior to me getting the prescription from the clinic so that I was able to get it on the spot when I turned up with the ticket.
  5. Unfortunately being BAR registered doesn't always afford much protection. I lost a ?200 deposit on a BAR registered Co. that went tits up. Its assets and business were immediately bought by another BAR registered Co. but they refused to offset the deposit against their quote. Spoke to BAR and they were useless. Best bet is to stick with the established names or if you're feeling brave do it yourself, but be aware of the insurance scams they try and pull.
  6. How big are your ears? I use B&O A8 Earphones. Great sound and they stay on because they hook over your ears, but not good if you have small pixie ears!
  7. Casey Jones . . . Wooo! Woooooohh!!

    Great Gigs

EW&F - Wembley Arena, sometime in the late 70's truly awesome brass section. In fact on the subject of brass sections, Aswads when they played The Venue in Victoria were pretty good too. Thin Lizzy on the Live and Dangerous Tour at Hammersmith, likewise Funkadelic and Chic at the same venue. Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Prodigy in Moscow. Pavorotti in Bucharest with Ceaucescu Palace as a backdrop and more recently Zero 7 at the Academy. If I had to choose the most memorable it would be Stevie Wonder on the Hotter Than July tour when Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross turned up as surprise guests.
  9. To be honest the woman nicking the shorts probably deserved them. Doubt she's a nice comfortable middle class woman, more likely she's had a miserable life, a crap job and has a bit of D&D problem. It's awful that anyone has sunk so low to have to resort to nicking from a charitable donation but then again she deserves every little bit of help (and possibly compassion) rather than us sneering down our nose at her. At the end of the day it wasn't in the shops possession and the cause of the problem was the mindless dumper. *Bob* is quite right "It's like flytipping for those who want to ease their conscience."
  10. I came to East Dulwich in 2003 after living abroad for several years. I immediately fell in love with the area because it seemed to be a melting pot of all sorts of characters from different walks of life living together and creating a feeling of diversity and creativity. There is a buzz that exists as a result of some of the quality businesses already established here and that has provided a motivation for others to either upgrade or for new ones to join the mix. Naturally something good will attract ohers and that has to be a good thing for us all if these businesses thrive as a result. It also means that property's are being modernised, refurbished and renovated which I think helps to further polish this gem of an area. I don't think any of the above constitutes being posh. Far from it. What it means is that we live in an area that is vibrant and alive and real. Try telling residents in Peckham that regeneration will make them too posh!
  11. I wouldn't be caught dead with a necrophiliac
  12. Is it difficult to change class ie from A1 to A4?
  13. Camberwell Old Cemetery is in ED so you'll have to make a permanent move here eventually!
  14. A lot of the highlighted gang feuds seem to be about territorial disputes. I hope this doesnt degenerate in the same way otherwise we'll have to ask Mark to ban SE5 forumites from the EDF.
  15. Alan, would you ever consider moving to ED?
  16. Before the pub was knocked down it actually sat across the road where Aysgarth Road is.
  17. It's still a sellers market so commissions of around 1.25% are still quite normal depending on what you're selling and where. Bottom line depends on the marketing capability of EA or online vehicle you decide on versus your expectation. I think with Foxtons coming to ED in an aggressive manner then it could get interesting. Hamptons are offering to pay for and organise your HIP and I think some local independents may think about merging (eg Volker/Thatch).
  18. hic!
  19. Too much whiskey makes me violent, strange that.
  20. Find out who the receiver is and make a claim. Slim chance (takes a while) that you might get a few pence in the pound back depending on priority creditors though I doubt they've assets of any value.
  21. Sorry Sean didn't mean to freak you out (bad habit of mine)! I've never knowingly met you, have no idea who you are but I think I read some time ago on the EDF where you mentioned said road that you live on.
  22. Indeed. I think one road over from you as I'm sure I could hear you gargling with the quiz spoils last week!
  23. Sean if it was just me I could walk for miles. Unfortunately with a 2 yr old and heavily pregnant Mrs Lozzyloz in tow (and the time constraints that entails) we're too far for a comfortable walk to Bellenden Rd and back for it to be considered local. Approx 4 mile round trip from top of LL.
  24. I think you'll find they're free range organic spelling mistakes so thats OK! Ultra - perhaps there's a consultancy opportunity for you. Give em a ring. I like the Bellenden Road area too. I wish parking was a bit easier though as it's a bit far for me and the family to walk too. I'd also like to see more pockets of contemporary village(y) type regeneration in more areas across London including Dulwich Village - Cafe Rouge, how drab!!!!!!!
