Ahhhh but does that explain why there are so many dead looking 'pale skins' and 'red skins' dotted all over Peckham Rye Common today ? :-S I wonder if in years to come this weekend will be in the history books at the "battle of burnt skin" where so many braves were injured trying to defend their Chieften 'Lager' or Chiefteness 'Spritza' I think a lot of people may have consumed a lot of "fire water" as a result

I have to ask for some information here Just returned home for the afternoon (yipee the joys of a home office when needed) and noticed a lot of people who should be in a wild west show. Is there one in town, or maybe a convention of Native American Indians because there are an awful lot of 'red skins' around today !! ::o

Help the Aged (bag collection)
LuvPeckham replied to LuvPeckham's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
SIGH - One week later and still no collection Anyone else had a zero collection or has there been someone round and missed me out (6) -
This (falsely) promised exciting reading... Great tits cope well with warming ... but never the less it is a good news story rather then the normal gloom about climate change

Sadly, 5 beers doesn't even touch the sides theses days... so can not even use the excuse that I was drunk at the time ... as for my balance being effected by beer as has been suggested, sadly not... it improves slightly and the real problem is my false leg that makes me unsteady at any time on a bendy bus... ::o

A report on the BBC website, highlights that one in three of us are hungover at our desk, and one in ten of us may be drunk at our desk. look around you, look to your left at the person sitting there, and to your right to the person sitting there. They obviously aren't hungover or drunk so you may be able to conclude that they are the other two who didn't go out last night !! (or didn't drink when they were out) Don't let them get away with looking so self assured and smug.. the one on your left should by now be a useful source for a large coffee and the one on the right should be a useful source for a nice greasy bacon and egg buttie.. :)-D

Tonight, I travelled home (5 beers down) standing up on a Number 12 bus from Parliment Square to ED About 10 minutes into the journey some bloke (sitting down) asked me to stop 'swinging around as the bus moved' (sadly inertial dampers are only something that the Enterprise has and they haven;t been installed on bendy buses yet) Got to admit I really felt like tearing a strip off him for being so rude, and whilst I know how annoying it is to be seated on a bus full of people who can't get a seat, I did find his behaviour rather rude and arrogent ... fortunatly he got off at the new Coop at Peckham (so he isn't one if us lovely ED people) All I can say is some people, and rather wished I was an aggressive sort who would have shown him how awkward it is to stand after a few beers on a bus that just won't stay still ::o

Yes when put that way > then yes all perfectly innocent except when one > considers the senders... dirtybigbadgirl, > VIAGRAofficialsite and chuckwilcock... :-S Sigh that is so namist of you... Mr Dirybigbadgirl is very sensitive about his family name and constantly gets blocked by spam filters when sending out emails, he has (as I understand it) applied to changes his name by deed poll to "Mr clean-normal-nice-woman" but the process takes some time and may not stop his emails being considered as spam. Chuck Wilcock lives in Virginia state and gets equally peveed about his name and spam email problems, he has publicaly said sorry concerning the fact that his email has been hijacked and would like to ensure that his wood pecker information is considered with great care in future. as for Mrs Vi Agraoffi-Calsite a most unfortunate union of names when she marriaed Mr Calsite, and I am never sure if they did the double barrelled thing on purpose or not... sadly as she is Polish and came from a long line of Agraoffi's she didn't want to compramise or loose the family name... I guess they could ahve doen their names the other way around, but where would the fun have been in that... Ant, your mind distrubs me greatly, why would Troy McClure do that on the simpsons, surely as it is a kids programme, broadcast before the watershed then it wouldn't appear in the show, rather I fear that Itchy and Scratchy will just maim, mutilate and kill each other again, providing the youth of today a nice sensible world to grow up in ...

KalamityKel Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "Incredible hulk gets big when he is angry" > > "add 3-6 inches to your pecker" > > "shove it in her face today" > > Deary deary deary me!!!! Perfectly logical email titles quoted above the first one - For Marvel fans... it is obvious that Mr Banner splits his clothes when he gets angry and turns into the Hulk (although the mystry of where and how he always seems to have spare trousers with elasticated waist bands is still one that keeps me in awe) The second one is a fact of evolution, a bigger wood pecker will be able to see of any rivals and in doing so be able to get the best foods, grow stronger and therefore ensure that his (or her) lineage is maintained at the expense of rival wood peckers the third one, obviously is an email from SMA (the baby food product company) with instructions on the best practices for feeding your small child their compound forumla, and I guess it may also talk about the advantages of 'trains' over 'planes' as a feeding method (especially in light of 9/11 when a plane was used - hence the better educated now preferring to use the train over the plane as there is less social / jihad implications....) all perfectly acceptable titles and it is all in your mind that they contain something else that they should not ... (I think) :-S

Help the Aged (bag collection)
LuvPeckham replied to LuvPeckham's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Maybe, however that isn't borne out by the simple fact that they still deliver the bags with a date for collection on them... if they have given up then I would also expect them to have given up on delivering the bags to start with... Pity as I really want to help the aged as we all expect to be requireing this charity's help in the future... :)) -

Thank you cat girl for you assistance Lets see if it is gone by time I get back from work -
this week I got a bag from said organisation requesting clothes, unwanted gifts and other things to be put into the bag, and placed out for collection Yesterday (Thursday) I followed instructions (after all it is a good charity and we all hope to be aged one day) This morning woke up (bleary eyed due to lack of sleep and too much Mario Kart) to see the sack still where I left it at 8am yesterday morning Has anyone else put a sack out for Help the Aged and not had it collected ?

Supermarkets and Underserved Markets

KalamityKel Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Seriously is there any need for another > supermarket? REALLY? The short answer is no, however the Report does provide a conceptual way of another one coming to areas where they are only served by one of the big 4. -

Cassius Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Very easy to forget about Iceland - I do it all > the time. Obviously you aren't a Mum otherwise you would go to Iceland !!! In response to Michael asking by whom... by the planners / developers should they choose to try and site another supermarket on our doorstep... whilst I agree that there is a good choice within driving distance, within walking distance Sainsburys is considered our dominant one from the big 4 for ED... Imagine if we lived in a small village with a nice high street and, according to the report published yesterday, a supermarket could justify building nearby on the grounds of 'competition' rather then need... could make hugh changes across the country in terms of small shops vs supermarkets -
Supermarkets and Underserved Markets
LuvPeckham replied to LuvPeckham's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It would be considered to be the dominate supermarket for the area based on its size and vicinity to lordship lane -

Good luck with your plans to get 'knocked over' but remember most of them drive big 4*4's but have no control over them so they may well feel a small bump and believe they have (yet again) run over a curb, cat, dog, local wildlife, local MP or something... ::o

This is an interesting BBC News report concerning the numbers of drivers caught on the phone not using a hands free kit. It does beg me to ask the question of why, whenever I see a driver on a hand held phone, they are 90% of the time in expensive or flashy cars. I wonder if they have spent so much in buying their pride and joy, that they can't then also afford a simple hands free kit (bluetooth or wired) to go with their car. Speculation I guess but frustrating to see when I flash past them at 70 mph down Barry Road (6)

Today (30th April 2008) the Competition Commission released their long overdue report on "GROCERIES MARKET INVESTIGATION" (see their Press Release for details or the Full Report if you want to dive into the details. There are elements of this report that are good (OFT involvement, Code of Conduct and action to prevent land agreements plus better support for suppliers and the supply chain.) However one element is open to potential problems in the future. This is the "recommendation for the inclusion of a ?competition test? in planning decisions on larger grocery stores" which put simply means that should a supermarket be dominant in an area (as Sainsbury?s potentially is in East Dulwich and Morrison?s potentially is in Peckham) then (in theory) the area can be opened up to other supermarkets to ensure fair competition in the area as an underserved market. This concerns me, that should another supermarket want to build in the area (and if land is available) then there is almost a mandate from this report that will allow it to happen, despite the fact that competition in the area may well already be provided by local smaller shops that won't be able to survive should another supermarket be introduced into an area. At the moment, I don't think there are any plans by any of the big 4 supermarkets to build locally, nor is there the landbanks available (at this juncture) but is this something we want / need in East Dulwich or Peckham ? If not maybe we should all be inputting to the Area Action Plans that are being developed at the moment by Southwark Council. The Peckham Area Action Plan under discussion at the moment identifies some large development sites that could potentially be used by a large retailer, thus adding even more competition to the fragile market Would be interested (in my professional capacity) to hear your thoughts and views on this report, and what as a community we should be doing to safeguard the smaller independent businesses in Southwark and London. Many thanks
