  1. post deleted - i didn't realise I'd already posted yesterday. Thought I'd only dreamt I posted. Does anybody else dream about the East Dulwich Forum? Is there a cure?
  2. i think this one is genuine. She came to our door last week brandishing the book and had a pram with her. I think her plan was to raise enough money to get is properly published. Seems to have gone to a lot of trouble if it's a scam
  3. post arrived in Beauval Road today by noon - which is earlier than most days.

Still looking...

  6. I lost one of my precious knitted leather gloves in/outside Somerfield today. If anyone finds it please pm me. It only cost ?7 (ie 3.50 each) from TKmax but they don't do them any more and I was really attached to it. thanks cath
  7. Warning: Sounds like Steve's back. Someone of that name called round off Townley Rd this morning saying that Tony was sick and he's covering for him. May be genuine of course, but I just called Tony and he says he's fine and up a ladder in West Dulwich.
  8. was definitely cheese block man and was definitely on last night. he had an eye-mask on but the facial hair and accent were unmistakable. Think it was a clip from some cheese/smell-related science documentary.
  9. I had one of those "sorry you were out today" cards when I was in, but what bothers me is slightly different. I don't know about other letter boxes, but our box says daily collection is at 5.30pm, but they frequently empty it during the day too. In fact they've just been. I guess they don't want to tell us there are more collections ? if they did we'd only go and post more letters wouldn't we?
  10. Can't sing the praises of city airport enough. used it for the first time last week. Left Ed station at 1.16 for 3pm flight. was there by 2pm via LB, jubilee to Canning Town and DLR and was kicking my heels for more than half an hour. could have easily left 30 mins later. Free wi fi too. compare that to a trip to Stansted the previous week - had to leave house at 5.30am for 8.30 flight. Shame city airport only does short hops but well worth paying bit more for the luxury if possible. Just one Kafka-esque caveat. The DLR station is in Zone 3 but for some reason I was not able to buy a travelcard just for zones 1,2,3 to get there. Still, at around a fiver each way it sure beats any other london airport in terms of getting there (and only 10 miles if you fancy cycling - free parking for bikes!)
  11. Well, just to link up a couple of threads, i don't know if he is local, but apparently actor Neil Stuke (from Game On, etc, you'll know his face, looks a bit like Marc Warren from Hustle) is rumoured to have a stake in the new Franklins shop. He has certainly been sighted on site.
  12. Were the dinky green fiats DVR? Not seen them around lately and they were easily the most tolerable of all estate agents fleets.
  13. Excuse my ignorance - isn't a dropped kerb the thing house owners use to get into their drives? how did the wardens know the car parked there didn't belong someone who lived there? I thought that it was no offence to park across a dropped kerb if no car in the drive. if there was a car and they were blocking it they were causing an obstruction, so, as simon says, towing it away would have been the better solution than a ticket. Perhaps the people who lived there called southwark council. Though if they did do this it is fantastically and uncharacteristically efficient of the council to come out on a sunday morning (unless they called them on the thursday).
  14. You have my total sympathy but i have to agree with Ruffers above. When I renewed my road tax by automated voicemail a few months ago the disc didn't arrive by the first of the month. Even though the process verbally confirmed by saying something like "you have now renewed your road tax" and the money left my account, when I rang back and spoke to a human I was told that if my car was parked on the road without displaying a disc I would still be committing an offence. I was advised to go to a post office, buy another disc over the counter and claim a refund when the original one arrived. Best of luck with your appeal though - this is a ridiculously harsh rule and deserves to be challenged.
  15. What bothers me is how every bank seems to operate differently. When my partner's First Direct card was cloned she was called very quickly and efficiently. On the other hand a couple of weeks ago I received a letter in the post asking me to call Alliance & Leicester about the security of my card "being compromised". When I called they immediately cancelled my card. If it was that serious why didn't they phone me in the first place rather than rely on snail mail? Furthermore, they explained that it was potentially compromised because it had been used in a place where dubious dealings had gone on, but were unable to tell me which place ? so the following week when i got my replacement I could have just as easily used it in the same place and had to go through the entire process again. And again. And again.
  16. don't like to think of myself as a suspicious type, but just had knock on the door from man with ladder saying that he'd noticed our aerial was wobbly and did we want it fixed. I said no thanks but offered to take the business card he was holding. He said it was ok, he'd put one through our door later. Noticed out the window that there was no name on side of (white) van. Anyone else has a visit?
  17. definitely seem to be teething troubles to say the least. i rang to make an appointment for my daughter, had a prompt consultation with a doctor and was given an appointment for an hour later. I then realised i couldn't get her there due to work so I rang back to rearrange the appointment for later in the day and was told I would have to have another phone consultation before new appointment could be made. Eventually common sense prevailed and I was given a new time without speaking to the doctor again, but the system clearly has some glitches in it at the moment.
  18. After posting that I did realise I was a little unclear. Firstly, I did attend the Charter before the BRIT as I didn't mention in my first post. And secondly, I'm not Cathg and I'm still a teenager. Being a lazy adolescent I thought it would be far more convenient to use my mum's (automatically signed in) account than register myself. Sorry for the confusion. And besides, its not even my mum who uses the account, its my dad in disguise! That's the last time I get involved in EDF, back to facebook for me!
  19. In regards to eccentric, I myself go to the BRIT school and find it worse than the Charter. That's got to tell you something... The Charter was great, but its true (what BARA said) that you need to be motivated to get somewhere there.
  20. I know it's frustrating when routes terminate early, but to be honest I always found that 176 bit from the Strand to Oxford St tortuous, particularly after Trafalgar Square was part-pedestrianised. On a good day i could get to aldwych from goose green in 30 mins and it would take another 30 to get from strand to tottentham Court Rd. Even though 176 stopped right outside my office i usually got off on strand and walked thru covent garden. Much better for the heart and soul.
  21. I go regularly with family - highly recommended for anyone who likes literature, comedy, music etc - a bit like a v civilised rock festival though all events are paid for individually. Might be worth waiting for the line-up to be announced. The one big catch is finding accommodation - unless you camp you'll be pushed to find anything within hay at a reasonable price - too many regulars keep going back, which is, i guess, proof of its appeal. if you like books etc and also a rock festival vibe why not google the newer Latitude Festival in suffolk. It's closer to ED too!

Never good... all journey's back > from anywhere to anywhere are not good at best of > times... but I just reverse the Victoria trip > I'd echo this and suggest you go via herne hill if you can get someone to drop you (or cycle). from there you can take your pick from trains to victoria or blackfriars to link up with the underground. or if you really want to limit changes get the thameslink to kings cross and get straight on piccadilly line to heathrow there. may take a tad longer though. one word of warning. over xmas we arrived at blackfriars with seconds left to catch the correct train to herne hill. we jumped on the train on the indicated platform but when the whistle blew it didn't pull out. Nobody told us that the train in service only consisted of the first four carriages on the very long platform...
  23. good lord - that camberwell man is a real blast from the past in every sense. I lived on church street v close to him in the eighties and can see him now, shorts, beard, dogs. And painted slogans outside his house? and i can vividly re-imagine the whiff too. If i'm not mistaken I thought he died around 1990 and it turned out that he had a very interesting past, some famous artistic connections (possibly francis bacon?) and quite a bit of money. but then he never seemed to spend any on deoderant or new clothes...
  24. just a personal update, I was out all day today and got home to find a recorded delivery item put thru my letter box without being signed for. Can't decide whether this is a good or bad thing - nice to have it without having to queue up all morning at silvester road to collect it, but a tad annoying and indicative of things still not being quite right in the SE22 postal world. anyone else had this particular variant of an ongoing problem?
  25. I'm sober enough this morning to answer my own question last night before someone else does - I think the bakerloo extension to camberwell had to be scrapped because of the south london problem with that soft clay that tends to contribute to subsidence. As a couple of posters have suggested they did start tunnelling towards SE5 at some point, presumably directly underneath Walworth Road, but had to give up.
