It looked much better when I walked past this evening. Some new tables have been put out the front and they were full up with people. The door was open, so you could see into the bar, which looked really busy. Word is obviously spreading that they are up & running!

Help-Ma-Boab, I wasn't slagging off 'The Ivy House' or posting negative comments. Just stating that I was surprised by the lack of publicity. As I live nearby, I was looking forward to the opening as I thought it would be quite a big occasion, due to all the work that has gone into it. I suppose I'm a bit disappointed that the locals (who couldn't buy shares, so got no newsletter) were not even aware it had opened. Surely, the more publicity, the more likely it is to succeed, which I hope it does. Anyway, back to the original topic. Which is about a cinema, not a pub!!

Maybe it would have been nice, just to inform locals then. As it's a community pub!

I was a bit surprised that it was such a low-key opening. I think I was expecting a fanfare, bunting, balloons, notices on all the local forums and some introductory offers (buy one, get one half-price), free nibbles etc. on launch night. Also, some flyers through doors, informing locals of the opening. I walk past there most days, and didn't even realise they were open til I read it on here! I thought they were still renovating the place, due to work being carried out at the front. It certainly doesn't look very welcoming.

You slag it off on here, everyone jumps on the bandwagon, and before you know it, a bad reputation will stop people from going at all. Next thing, there will be talk of it closing down & a 'save Peckham Multiplex' campaign because it is the only cinema in the area and would be greatly missed. I very rarely go to the pictures nowadays, but if I did, I would go there, not only to support a local business, but due to the convenience. I have good memories of taking my children there when they were younger, as a special treat on birthdays etc. Tickets were only ?3.99 on Tuesdays & if you got there early enough, you could have the pick of the best seats! People should think of the consequences before posting such negative comments. There are enough places closing down these days, without losing our only cinema as well.

Yes, it's social pressure, but try telling children that Santa Claus isn't coming because he is broke! So, you borrow on cards to make sure your children get a great christmas & you spend the next few years paying it back! No, but any expense is a struggle if you don't have the money. Christmas is wonderful for those who can afford it & I'm happy that they are looking forward to it. I, personally, am not!

Christmas is only great if you have loads of money for presents & loads of money for food shopping. If you don't, where is the pleasure in wanting to buy certain things for people & not being able to? Where is the pleasure in seeing all the fancy christmas stuff in the supermarket & only being able to do your normal weekly shop? Where is the pleasure in running up an even bigger credit card bill? For people struggling to make ends meet, christmas isn't exciting, it's an absolute nightmare :(

Feedback: Nothing would attract me to a portrait session, because I simply can't afford it. Even if I could, I can think of far more important things to spend my money on. If you can't afford an expensive ring, go for a cheaper one. It's the thought that counts & I'm sure she will like it, however much it costs.
