  1. He was being chased by a CID car. I thought the police had a policy of not pursuing high speed pursuits in urban areas (for obvious reasons) but the placement of cars did suggest a red light infraction being met with a head on collision. The most seriously injured man, that I referred to earlier, did make it to hospital, but his head injuries did look very serious. If I can find out anything more on his progress I'll post.
  2. Yup I seccond that...where else would i find so many ladies prepared to play footy having never played before.....I could be the next Alex Ferguson! But seriously...this is great forum and that anyone gives up their free time to keep it going means we are all indebted.
  3. Am told by the Police that they are all in hospital including the seriously injured man on the pavement so no-one has died thankfully.
  4. if deeper than 40mm it has to be made safe within 24hours That's useful to know. I did notice after my complaint about Rye Lane that the worst holes were temporarily filled along with those on the East side of Rye Park but it didn't happen within 48 hours. Is that rule for the public highway only or does it extend to for example estate car parks? It should because a car has to be taxed to be parked there, as those areas are considered 'on road' for those purposes, yet efforts to get the potholes (far deeper than 40mm) in those areas fixed are often met with 'there's no budget for that'.
  5. This is what I found out. A CID car was chasing a stolen car towards the junction of ED Grove from Peckham Rye before having a head on smash (on the opp. side of the road). Three cars written off (including the CID car). Roof cut off one to free passengers. Am told the @$%! in the stolen car ran off uninjured. One man still on pavement being treated by a team of paramedics and doctors. Looks like he has serious head injuries (was fitting).....looks very serious. Don't know if he was a passenger or pedestrian. Air Ambulance still parked there but don't know how many injured. The local News might cover it tonight.
  6. Yeah Carragher, definitely off the pace and I question the commitment of any player that previously didn't want to play for England. Scholes has never changed his mind for example. Everyone knew King wouldn't last - he's been like that all season - why on earth we took him is beyond me. Holland never live up to expectations - a bit like England in that respect. But the dutch keeper spilled the ball a bit like Green did at one point (wasn't totally behind the ball). I wonder if that ball does zip off as it slows in the air? Just struck me as odd because both were straight shots from distance giving the keepers plenty of time to set themselves. Here come Japan and Cameroon .......
  7. Maybe that's something to propose to the council - that only if temporary posters aren't removed after the event (or a reasonable period of time) are fined. It should be about common sense after all.
  8. Yep, if we can't beat Algeria and Slovenia easily then we shouldn't be in the World Cup. Venables is just riding the money gravy train. Still haven't forgiven him for what he did to Crystal Palace.
  9. Barry Road is not strictly classed as a residential road though. It is the B219. And a lot of people that do not drive have the perception the a car travelling at 30mph is speeding when it's not. There are plenty of safe places along Barry Road for pedestrians to cross. Anyone pulling out from being parked on Barry Road should be able to judge if they have enough time to pull out - a basic driving skill. The issue of visibility at junctions might be an issue but given the Barry Road is mainly as straight a road as you can get there should'nt be any problem apart from obstruction to view by parked cars. There aren't that many accidents on Barry Road and that is because most drivers give junctions the extra care they need.
  10. Yeah definitely take it to the CC meeting and I'd complain to local councillors on this too. It seems ridiculous that a local private event can't put up a few posters (esp when they are obviously temporary and can be easily removed). Will they start fining people who put up posters for lost cats and dogs next?
  11. Haven't the most complaints been from players being kept awake at night by the sound of them outside lol.......?
  12. We are meant to intensely dislike them and they are meant to intensiely dislike each other, which usually starts to happen after the first nominations - boy is Sunshine in for a 'roasting'. I'm backing the ex-mole to win.

  14. Yeah, don't they always moan about having to get used to the new ball every tournament? Last time round it was too light or something. Might get a german view on that.
  15. Totally out classed. And if we don't win our group Germany could be our opponents in the next round so we'd better shape up fast.
  16. ha ha....you should be IN there, would fit right in..... ;-)
  17. Typical bloody germans.....of to a storming start...and looking like the best team in the tournament so far....grrrrrrr......lol.....helped by the card happy ref of course ;-)
  18. LOL ....I do love your pics. In fact I have a pair of inflatable hands I can send Rob Green if the FA are a bit short of funds and I do believe Kenn Dodd can supply the cloggs. I agree kpc. Beckham apparently though has been telling the wide plays that if they cross the ball and there's no-one there to meet it then that's not their problem! Rooney just wasn't getting far enough forward yesterday and part of that was the lack of holding player for the midfield. If Gerrard and Lampard are dropping back (which they did whenever USA were in posession), Rooney drops back to fill the forward hole. That's why Heskey was often in a lone striker position and the only one there to meet the long ball (another overused aspect of the English game) which is how we seem to play when we can't get much joy from the midfield. When the wide players did find some pace down the lines they had to hold up waiting for the midfeild to push up, because there was no-one to pass to. Our own midfield kept Rooney out of the game as much as the USA did. Meanwhile my online dreamteam is going down the pan....so what do I know about anything :))

  20. Joe Hart is the in form keeper, he's been fantastic all season. Pundits say he has no World Cup experience but he has to start somewhere. Other players lacked too though. Aaron Lennon had a brilliant chance to chip the keeper, but chose instead to errr...cross it in front of three US defenders. We had no link up player to dominate the midfield (although Barry should solve that one) and against better teams we won't get any play in the midfield without someone filling that hole. There were a few instances of good passing and towards the end Rooney suddenly woke up, but on the whole our crossing was poor and our game was the usual 'up in the air' instead of controlled passing. I think the biggest problem is that these players are not used to playing with each other. You can't throw a team together for the first time and expect them to have an instant understanding of each others movement and runs. And why on earth did Capello ignore what everyone else knows, that Ledley King barely plays two games in a row. He's been like that all season and now after just one half he's injured. It's a shambles. It was the kind of game you'd want to see in a friendly....where there are glimpses of things to build on. By the time you get to a World Cup, those things should be dominating your game. OK my stint as footy critic is over....lol....:)-D
  21. Any driver with any common sense slows down at junctions. All of the accidents you mention are the result of poor divers. Driving tests do not require a driver to demonstrate judgement in adverse conditions or to show they can control a small skid. Apperently that is advanced driving and I think that is nonsense. How would traffic calming stop someone pulling out without looking for example? I cycle and drive and motorcycle too, and in all three the majority of road users are sensible. Having said that I was knocked off my bicycle recently by a driver that turned left whilst I was alongside her. She didn't look and speed had nothing to do with it. In 14 years of driving I've had just two accidents - both the fault of the other driver and neither of which would have been prevented by traffic calming. The bureau of insurers shows annually that the vast majority of insured drivers do not have accidents. They publish anually. The simplest way to improve visibility at that junction on Barry Road is to remove parking along Barry Road for 50 yards. Slowing traffic at that junction does nothing to improve visibility and indeed the zebra crossing immediately next to it slows most cars anyway.
  22. The zebras are already raised and I regularly drive and cycle down Barry Road and don't see many drivers breaking the speed limit or any evidence that any driver is resentful of pedestrians. Tell me, when was the last pedestrian mowed down on a Barry Road Zebra crossing by a speeding resentful driver exactly?
  23. Yep it was a howler from Green and just not good enough at this level. But nor was the crossing good enough, nor did we play enough through the midfield. USA made us look ordinary and ordinary won't beat the likes of Brazil, Spain, even Argentina. That's what happens when you use friendlies to experiment instead of building a stable core team that know how to play with each other.
  24. Have to admit the mole thing is funny. Don't feel sorry for him though - making him trash the food was great :))
  25. I disagree...the vast majority of drivers don't have accidents. If someone doesn't pay attention at a junction then that's their fault. Why should the rest of us be inconvenienced by that? Main roads are main roads. Total nonsense to suggest they should be relegated to the snail pace of some residential roads because a few drivers are poor drivers.
