How will the ULEZ be enforced in ED?
peckhamside replied to Sunglasses's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think they will generate the letters from the vehicle registration data base? So nothing to do with cameras and sweeps of the streets. -
Daughter going to Newcastle Uni mid Sept
peckhamside replied to paddyp7's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think petrol is sold by the litre, so is around ?1.30 per litre, approx ?5.80/?6.00 a gallon which puts the fuel cost at just under ?90, even if you take your own sandwiches and drinks. As Renata says there are some real bargains on LNER at the moment. -
Catalytic converter thieves operating tonight
peckhamside replied to pooc's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Someone did a few cars on my road, they are very fast! -
Agree this is a nuisance, at first they blocked the dropped kerb and left a gap further on, then they opened up a gap at the dropped kerb and now they have closed the whole road, going across the square is a bit of an accident waiting to happen!!!

I think walk to the nursery (as I see lots of people doing) then walk on to the station.

Daughter going to Newcastle Uni mid Sept
peckhamside replied to paddyp7's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Is she in halls? If you go by train you will avoid the long queue to get in the car park!! Saw lots of frazzled families arriving in SUVs !! All a bit crotchety. -

Hmmm, is that car hire the price for the day? 300m is a long way to go there and back in a day-especially in a ford focus. Plus petrol will surely be more than ?60/?70 ? My daughter went to Newcastle and we went on the train, we did stay the night before in a hotel but as train so much faster you could do it in a day and make the time slot. We will all be eating soylent green if we carry on driving everywhere? -
PCN for driving in Dulwich village, help please!
peckhamside replied to renarde's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I sympathise, I think the signs are not obvious at that roundabout, went through myself but luckily it was marginally before the start time. I wrote to my councilor to complain about poor signage and lack of widespread pre-publicity. That having been said it is probably better to pay and move on!! -
HELP, what are the rules about driving through Dul' Village
peckhamside replied to peckhamside's topic in Roads & Transport
Some kind EDF person sent me a shot of the letter to residents, I still cannot fully fathom it out, partly because it seems traffic can go one way up roads but not the other. I'm not sure why they don't use the red circle signs on the roads you cannot use with the times underneath, plus flashing lights when the road is restricted? -

Depends what you mean by clear, its not clear D.V. is closed north bound which is what is should say? -
I mostly cycle locally, today I happened to be in the car coming back to Peckham from Tulse Hill and went down Rosendale to make a change. After Croxted there were a lot of confusing signs!!! Is Dulwich Village now closed to traffic at school opening and closing times? If so where can I find some information on this, including a map- so I know when to avoid the area? In my view the signage was not clear at all. If no cars why not a sign with a red circle? Also why not say Dulwich Village closed to traffic if that is what is the case? When did this start?

Parking at Tessa Jowell Health Centre
peckhamside replied to dds29's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Surely if you are too ill to walk you would be too ill to drive?? -
Hi there, does anyone know if there are any open consultations at present where I can formally register my full support for road closures, LTN etc. I will also e-mail my local Councillors. In my own short road there are numbers of people who run health children to school or even the bus stop or drive them to schools well out of the local area. Until they get the message or we get road pricing we will need LTN, CPZ, traffic calming and all the rest.

A LOT of missing cats in East Dulwich
peckhamside replied to amlh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Maybe the foxes are hungrier!! -
And if it was a roundabout only with priority to the flowing traffic how would people cross the road!! Doh

I live near P.R. so rather dreading impact on my road (though amount of parking in Strakers Road should mitigate). However I do support charging for parking in parks in principle. Re recent bad traffic, it does not seem like previous traffic, I suspect a lot is school run. Has the council done any surveys recently? Road closures are getting blamed but I am not sure this is correct?

Council Meeting Live from 4pm today
peckhamside replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I still do not believe increased traffic is due to road closures, I suspect more school runs. Opening roads will just increase traffic!! -
Road closure petition re-opened
peckhamside replied to dougiefreeman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well said Malumbu. I will not be signing. Car drivers- I'm sure some of you could be walking. I will be inconvenienced by closure of P.R. East side but it is a small price to pay for health and safety. -
They will need to sort out the junction of Nunhead Lane and Consort. I was already planning to write to the Council re parking there which blocks the junction and makes it pretty impassable. Two lanes of cars cannot cross so junction is very slowed down. I support road closures generally. I guess this will reduce traffic up the whole of PR East side and re route it to West side. This will make it easier for cyclists going South who currently have cars restlessly revving behind them as they slow down up the hill.

I WILL NOT BE SIGNING As a cyclist I support these road closures. As do most cyclists I know. Traffic is terrible lately, but that is because too many people are making short journeys, such as taking children to school when they could walk. If people chose to sit in the car for hours rather than walk, that is their choice. And surely if people want to go to a business they go there? You can drive to M.G. just from the other end of the road?

Theft from bike shed Underhill Road
peckhamside replied to JDR's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think the steel sheds from ASGARD are a better bet. They are not cheap but saves hassle of theft. Screwfix used to do one at a substantial reduction but not last time I looked but worth checking. Also I advise registering your bikes on bike register-which is free and you can upload a photo. This increases chance of getting them back. Also any potential purchaser can check if bike listed to vendor!!
