  1. I WILL NOT BE SIGNING As a cyclist I support these road closures. As do most cyclists I know. Traffic is terrible lately, but that is because too many people are making short journeys, such as taking children to school when they could walk. If people chose to sit in the car for hours rather than walk, that is their choice. And surely if people want to go to a business they go there? You can drive to M.G. just from the other end of the road?
  2. I think the steel sheds from ASGARD are a better bet. They are not cheap but saves hassle of theft. Screwfix used to do one at a substantial reduction but not last time I looked but worth checking. Also I advise registering your bikes on bike register-which is free and you can upload a photo. This increases chance of getting them back. Also any potential purchaser can check if bike listed to vendor!!
  3. To spider69, I sympathise with your health issues but find it hard to believe that Dulwich is your nearest green space in this Borough if you need two buses and a long walk to get there. Plus if there were fewer cars the roads might be more pleasant for walking?
  4. Found keys today on Peckham Rye, (Strakers Road) someone had found and placed on top of a bin, I brought them home and am posting this. Private message me a description if you think they may be yours.
  5. This type of crime is a blast from the past. People must be desperate! Practically died out with the widespread use of alarms and built in car radios/bluetooth. Car owners must be leaving valuables in the car? Stop doing this and it will die out. P.s. even a rubbishy pillow can look like a bag when it rains.
  6. Hi James, I support this charge, although I live near P.R. and doubtless people will park in my road instead!! My question is what do the Council plan to do about the service road to the car park. Lots of people park there, I suspect some have slept there in the past and then of course there are the Saturday evening family footballers (whom I think have been disgraceful harassed by local residents-probably on racial grounds). Will car parking charges apply to the access road or will it be no parking? I am also concerned that this might lead to more parking on the road which will increase risk to cyclists.
  7. The paper (see link in first post) prepared by head of parks and leisure is worth reading. Two key points-providing the car parks costs money and the people funding this should be the car park users (though it will also generate a healthy profit). Secondly charges will be competitive, significantly less than Brockwell Park.
  8. I have not read all the posts but in case this is being monitored by local Councillors to keep abreast of local views. 1. I agree with rahrahrah- we need to discourage car ownership and use in the local area. 2. Roads are owned by all-including those without a car, so reasonable that car owners pay more to use the space. 3. Current Borough wide permit system for CPZ is too liberal, up to three permits per address and no increase in charges for second and third permits. I suggest limit of two and increase in fee for second car to discourage multiple car ownership. Number and size of cars (SUV!!)does seem to be increasing. All the fuss about single use plastic etc. and carbon emissions from vehicles which is 18% (I think) must be increasing!!
  9. Sorry to hear about the distress to dog and owner but it there a learning point here about keeping dogs under control? I am a cyclist and a dog running in the road could have caused serious injury if it had collided with a cyclist. My observation is dogs have NO sense re other moving things.
  10. For those living just out of ED in Nunhead you can access delivery of excellent sourdough and other breads from Coopers Bakehouse based in Brockley. https://www.coopersbakehouse.com/ They also supply some local shops including Proud Sow, Broca and Costcutter in Brockley Cross. If you ask your local deli on L.L. I am sure they could start an account. All hand made using organic ingredients. P.s. I used to work for them doing delivery but dont now so this is a genuine endorsement.
  11. Make sure you get a DEFRA approved, wood burners now said to be contributing to poor air quality, and even DEFRA make some pollition.
  12. Having had a good response (it seems) to complaint to councellor about poor road surface at top of Rye lane, can something be done about road surface at Kings on the Rye junction as it was once known, going East from Goose Green the road is bad, which causes risks for cyclists at a busy junction when they need to concentrate on traffic and cannot swerve around pot holes.
  13. Problem east of Peckham Rye also, they use bolt croppers, the Kryptonite New York faggedabout it lock is only ?54 from Halfords if ordered on line and is crop proof.
  14. I have not read all these posts, they do have an on line prescription request service but it is not fully reliable. I have also found organization by back office staff at FHR very frustrating, in practice you need to make on the day appts. Need to be very organised to get an appt. at all, which is hard when ill. I used to go and sit and wait but they now only see those who book by phone although at least it is now a local number not a premium rate line!!
  15. YES, at least they did when I learnt to drive and I was just going to make this point. However in a crowded urban environment a light controlled crossing would probably be a good idea.
  16. James, can you shed any light on why the works need to be carried out at night (at presumably more expense) to 'save disruption to traffic' when the road is due to be closed anyway, why not work in the day?
  17. Vanias? Or similar, bike shop in Honour Oak adjusted my gears, I hear he is very reasonable for full service.
  18. Tommy F, report this to the Police, so they know where to direct patrols. Also if your phone was stolen they will not be able to return it if found, or prosecute the person with it, if you have not reported it.
  19. I as woken one night by a crashing sound and saw a car pulling away at speed, the back of a neighbours vehicle was stoved in. The next morning I found a bumper with number plate (of the vehicle that had sped off in the road). The neighbours insurance company told me the driver denied causing the damage, saying his car was damaged because he ran into a nearby post box, which was without a scratch!!
  20. 20 is plenty guys. Think of pedestrians, small children, cyclists-just do what the signs advise.
  21. I understand your anger but sadly I suspect not many bike thieves use the EDF. Where approximatly were the bikes stolen from. Could the Council be asked to put up more sheffield stands etc. Harder to cut with a bolt cropper.
  22. I have not read every post so some of these points may have been made. 1. Driving more slowly saves fuel. 2. It is so much safer for all road users including cyclists and pedestrians because if another motorist makes a mistake everyone has more ti,e to stop/ avoid them etc. I support 20 mph zone.
