  1. Perhaps incontinence pads are called for. I'm excited about the prospect of a new cinema but not THAT excited.
  2. Are you sure that isn't Mr Cholmondley Warner in the photo?
  3. I'm afraid that guys with nice arses, whether tall, Polish or otherwise aren't my thing, as they probably aren't for other males of the heterosexual persuasion. So not much of compensation for a large number of DMC patients.
  4. Someone who describes ED as a slum obviously hasn't spent much time in those areas of London, the south east or indeed any parts of the UK that really are slums. A sense of proportion is called for here.
  5. Why is it racist to complain about local businesses who cause a mess that they don't clean up? Surely it would be racist (not to say very patronising) to argue that businesses owned by a particular part of the community should do as they please and not be required to clean up, because that would be expecting a lower standard from them. Surely all businesses that cause a mess should be held to the same standards, regardless of race, colour, creed, gender, sexual orientation etc etc.
  6. Canary, I too am horrified at the tone of your language towards Buddug. You don't have to agree with him/her but it is totally unacceptable to be so rude. You think that because you're anonymous you can say what you like without there being any consequences. Let me remind you that trolls like yourself (and your language is that of a troll in the internet sense) have been sued for libel and/or been imprisoned for sending offensive or threatening posts. Administrator, what action are you taking against Canary? If he/she hasn't breached the MB's terms of use, I don't know what would constitute a breach.
  7. I've lived in ED since 1987 and have noticed the changes since then, most of which have been for the better. It was relatively cheap in 1987, which is why we moved here from Greenwich. However, to describe ED as "relatively cheap" is surely questionable, given the house prices and the price tags in so many of the upmarket shops. I suppose, though, that it's "relatively cheap" compared with Kensington or Hampstead.
  8. Although I agree with this approach, you're very brave. Unfortunately some day someone challenged in this way may duff you up or stab you for being so impertinent (irony alert). A very sad situation. People have complained on this thread about massive people carrier size buggies. What about the kids tearing along the pavement on their two wheel cycles? One these little buggers nearly crashed into me this morning and when I expressed disapproval the kid's mother/grandmother looked at me as if I was being unreasonable. And I'm not getting into the old boring working class/ middle class argument that is so prevalent on this MB. Bad, inconsiderate behaviour is unacceptable, regardless of race, colour, creed, class, sexual orientation etc.
  9. Sorry numbers, you've got it wrong. This is not exactly as Louisa did. Our situation is different. Louisa's initial post read "...The chap is on his way over between 4-6 but just now the space usually occupied by my car which I had made free (I moved my car and put wheelie bin to reserve space for plumber), has now got a disgusting looking red ford fiesta parked in it ..." We wouldn't put a bin to reserve the space for the workperson, which was what Louisa tried to do. We would only move our car when the tradesperson arrived so that he/she could park there. However, unlike Louisa, we don't regard the parking space outside as ours alone, which we can reserve for anyone who visits us. If we can't park near the house, which very often we can't do, that's tough.
  10. Louisa, I haven't read all the pages of this thread, but the position is quite simple. If you park on street, the space in front of your house is not your own that you can reserve whenever you want. The only circumstances in which Mrs Tring and I would put bins in the road outside our house would be if a skip was being delivered or if a scaffolding lorry was unloading scaffolding. If we hsve a plumber or other workperson, they have to take pot luck, although if we happen to be parked near the house we would move so that they could park nearer.
  11. E-dealer, please tell me why James B would want to get the cinema project cancelled when, as I said, he is one of the people who encouraged Picturehouse to come to ED. Or is there some Machiavellian conspiracy afoot that is too difficult for us ordinary mortals to comprehend? More to the point, why does at least one poster have to post negative messages on EDF when there is for once some potentially good news?
  12. Since James Barber was one of the prime movers in encouraging Picturehouse to come to ED, this is a pretty mean comment. E-dealer, I suspect that you won't be voting Lib Dem this Spring (and indeed neither will I), but please try to keep politics out of this and be pleased that ED will probably be getting a much needed asset.
  13. That's a good send-up of a typical EDF nimby post, unlurked. Er ... you are joking, aren't you?
  14. I attended the exhibition this morning. The proposals looks really excellent and I cannot fault them in any way. A cinema would be an enormous asset for ED .
  15. Is this a joke or is Qaz123 really being serious?
  16. That's good news, James. Are you able to tell us the identity of the cinema operator?
  17. "Ner-ner-na-ner-ner" was the sort of thing my kids said when they were about six years old, Lady D. Surely you can do better than that.
  18. For heaven's sake LD, the majority of people aren't anti-cycling. What, however, they probably are is anti - bad cycling. You clearly like to portray yourself as a victim or martyr. If that helps you to get through the day, then please go ahead, but don't expect us to agree with this self-portrayal.
  19. Congratulations, Katanita - so well put. And it comes much better from a cyclist like yourself who suffers as a result of the misdeeds of a minority of cyclists.
  20. Lady Delilah, you omitted to mention the first sentence of my post, namely "People like that give well behaved cyclists a bad name", from which it is clear that I am not prejudiced against all cyclists. However, I am totally pissed off with the arrogant behaviour of a large number of cyclists these days, which to my mind is a lot worse than say, 15 years ago. While we're on the subject, I'm getting increasingly fed with having young children on kiddie cycles nearly crash into me when I'm walking on the pavement.
  21. People like that give well behaved cyclists a bad. Unfortunately there are too many arrogant, badly behaved cyclists around these days.
  22. Yes, the Education Secretary who got rid of most grammar schools was not Antony Crosland or Shirley Williams; it was one Margaret Thatcher. I wonder what ever happened to that rabid socialist? The Daily Mail wouldn't have liked her.
  23. Harold Macmillan used to visit the Plough regularly in order to get pissed and to enjoy a sing song round the old joanna.
  24. For the avoidance of doubt, my last post was meant to be ironic. I agree that repetition has been a feature of this thread, hence my ironic comment.
