  1. People, especially poor people, should read the 2010 UKIP manifesto, if they can get through it without feeling decidedly ill. People have concentrated too much on the EU and immigration provisions rather than on the low tax sections.
  2. It would be good if some interviewer would really nail Forage and get him to admit that many of the UKIP policies are far to the right of the Tories, especially low rate flat taxes, which would result in even more massive cuts in public spending. Then the poorer, Labour voters who are contemplating voting UKIP might start to realise that they would be really screwed financially if Forage and his mates were able to put their policies into effect. So far Forage has been able to get away with murder (metaphorically of course).
  3. That's rather disappointing and upsetting, Jeanette. Frankly I'm surprised as the boss always seemed to me to be a decent geezer. But of course you may have a different take on this.
  4. Jeanette, I'd be interested to know why it wasn't possible for staff to tell clients that such a long established business was closing.
  5. Objecting to someone making a bloody noise doesn't make you a UKIP supporter. I'm certainly not - quite the contrary. Are you suggesting that we should tolerate excessive noise in case someone, somewhere accuses us of racism? In fact the noise stopped about ten minutes after I started the thread.
  6. There is some guy shouting into a mike at the moment in what appears to be Spanish. The sound is amplified and seems to be coming from the direction of Alleyns or the hilly bit of LL past Townley Road. He has used the word "dios" so I don't know whether he is some kind of evangelist, or just mentally frail. Whoever he is, I just wish he would shut it. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
  7. Very sorry to hear about the closure of Roche. However, they've had easy money from me in recent years because I'm severely follicly challenged! Seems too much of coincidence that the caf? next door has also closed at the same time. I assume that they have both suffered from the outcome of rent reviews by their landlord, or their leases have expired, or something like that.
  8. Can't see why this won't get planning permission since it's a great scheme(famous last words).
  9. You should have complained loudly about her bad behaviour and stressed your difficulty in standing, then told her not to ask for sympathy if and when she herself found it more difficult to stand. I find her kind of selfishness and rudeness absolutely appalling (gawd, I'm beginning to sound like Prince Charles, not exactly my favourite person!) My grouse for today - the fat 20 something woman who crashed into me while staring at her bloody smartphone and then told me to look where I was going. Yes, that woman in Melbourne Grove at about 9am today, you know who you are.
  10. Look, I'm not going to vote for James' party in the local election - indeed I will be voting Labour, so I'm not biased in favour of James. But could people please have their political arguments on another thread, i.e. one that I don't intend to follow.
  11. "The next station stop will be Forest Hill". What's wrong with "The next station will be Forest Hill?" "Platforming difficulties". Reminds me of the old gag "The train now standing at platforms 1, 2, 3 and 4 has come in sideways".
  12. Wouldn't it better if this thread could return to a much more helpful "How can I help you?" theme? Then those politicos and MBers who wish to debate election issues could start their own thread under the title "Our political opponents tell even bigger lies that we do", or some similar title.
  13. Many thanks, James. I have just walked past Sainsburys Local and a sign there stated that they were reopening on 20 May. So presumably the reopening has been postponed until the week of 26 May.
  14. We've been away for a fortnight so we didn't realise that the Sainsburys Local in LL was closed for refurbishment. Does anyone know when it is due to reopen?
  15. About time too.
  16. Touche (with an e acute), KK. You've hit the nail on the head.
  17. My parents brought me up to tell the truth and that's wot I'm doing, innit.
  18. For the avoidance of doubt, I can categorically state that I have only posted on EDF under the name Zebedee Tring.
  19. The planning application is advertised in today's Southwark News.
  20. I can confirm that I have only posted on EDF under the nom de plume of Zebedee Tring. How about unlurked? He/she seems a likely candidate.
  21. Shows that The Archers are down wiv da kidz, innit.
  22. Is there any news yet on the progress of the planning application for the cinema?
  23. For those who like (or are indeed irritated by) The Archers, here's Kirsty's Scream Mixdown:
  24. Numbers, do you have any poster in mind, by any chance?
  25. My understanding is that in due course Platforms 14 and 15 will be wider when the current construction works in the area of the platforms are complete - I think there's a notice on one or both of the platforms to that effect. That should hopefully make a difference.
