Zebedee Tring replied to Jon Barrenechea's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Buddug, I agree fully with what you say about Blair's failure to act on the living wage issue. But what did you expect from him? He is as much a crypto Tory as the likes of Clegg and The Undertaker (my name for David Laws). -

Buddug, you know that I have the greatest respect for you, but IMHO there are much bigger baddies out there than Picture House. If Milliband and his chums promise to legislate to enforce the LLW if they win the General Election, this would be one more reason for me to vote Labour. -

Otta, I would refer you to the response of the defendant in the case of Arkle v. Pressdram. -

I'm not going to reiterate at length what I've said already on this thread in case someone insults me again. Let me make it clear that I would be very pleased if Picturehouse paid the LLW; indeed they seem to be moving in that direction. But I still don't see why they are being picked out for attack when there are so many other local businesses currently in existence who don't pay it. Do people really think that larger businesses who don't pay it should be condemned while small local businesses who don't pay should be let off the hook because they're run by nice cuddly people wearing flip flops with flowers in their hair who are kind to animals and say that they want to save the world? -
Food Standards Agency - East Dulwich Deli inspection 1 July 2013. Food hygiene rating 1 - "major improvement needed". This might have something to do with its closure; on the other hand it may not: http://ratings.food.gov.uk/business/en-GB/364609/East-dulwich-deli-Lordship-Lane

Northlondoner, I suggest that you read all my posts on this thread before you condemn me. I am a man of the left, but I don't slavishly follow the "right on" brigade if I think that they are posturing. My wife, who is very much on the left was very critical of her NUJ branch in the 80s who, instead of fighting to protect their members' jobs which were very much on the line, instead spent all its time passing resolutions demanding that the troops be withdrawn from N. Ireland. This is the kind of posturing that I deplore, which is a little like some of the posturing on this thread. But clearly you are a very busy person and probably won't be able to spare the time, which I regret. -

It's sixth formers who use words like "prick" to describe people with whom they disagree, not adults. -

*Bob*'s post is a sensible one in which he actually engages intelligently with the views of posters with whom he doesn't necessarily agree without resorting to vulgar abuse. In other words, he is behaving like an adult as opposed to a sixth former. Hooray! -

So not only am I a "prick" but I am "frivolous", "selfish", "simple" and "infant-like". These insults say more about the senders of the messages than they do about me. Please do me the courtesy of readings all my posts on this thread and then apologise to me for distorting my views so seriously. Though I suspect that I will have to wait a long time for any apologies. BNG's use of the word "posturing" to describe some of the offending posters is highly appropriate. -

Otta, saying that someone is acting like a prick is for all intents and purposes the same as saying that they are a prick. Both statements are insulting and demeaning and not worthy of someone supposedly posting on a grown ups' MB as opposed to some website designed for sixth formers. So please don't try and wriggle out of that one by applying some spurious bit of semantics. Again you're distorting what I was saying by claiming that I was dismissing the issue, when like Jeremy I indicated that I didn't understand why Picture House were being singled out for criticism. This is the last time that I will respond to you on this issue, which as far as I am concerned is closed -

That's precisely the point I have been trying to make, Jeremy, and all I have received is personal abuse on this thread from certain quarters. I believe that the word "prick" was directed at me - definitely well out of order, as Phil Mitchell and his mates might say. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Zebedee Tring replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Congratulations, James. Although I voted Labour in Village Ward, you're one of the good guys. It's a shame though that your leaders in the coalition are mostly a bunch of crypto Tories, but that isn't your fault. -

This is a good subject for discussion, but not in this thread. I suggest that you start a thread in The Lounge entitled "Why is it so bloody much to live in London?", or something like that. How about "Trying to buy a house in London is near impossible"? -

So what do the moaners want? No cinema at all, which would be a very bad thing for ED? No doubt, they would then feel ethically pure, right on and smug. And presumably this new cinema which they would prefer not to have would generate employment - perhaps they could explain their views to the people who would potentially be employed there. And why are they picking on Picture House when so many other ED businesses don't pay LLD? The negativity and student union style posturing on this MB often dismays me. And I'm a left of centre person, so I can imagine how people on the right feel. -

Zebedee Tring replied to Jon Barrenechea's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No, maxxi, don't guilt trip me please. As I said earlier, as probably virtually NO cinemas pay LLW, you would have to stop going to the cinema full stop if you take that line. Or do you believe that "robber barons of capitalism" like Picture House should pay LLW while hippy dippy independents shouldn't because they love us all and have flowers in their hair? In any case I believe that Picture House WILL be paying LLW soon. -

For heaven's sake, please talk about the cinema on this thread. If you want to debate the LLW (which has in any case been debated at length already), please do so on another thread, possibly in The Lounge. -
I thought that Loz was being ironic? Was he/she?

Indeed, am I correct in saying that Picture House intend to introduce the LLW in the near future? If so, this would put them way ahead of most other London employers. -

Then I suppose that you will have to give up going to the cinema, cle, because I would bet that few, if any, cinema owners pay the living wage. For heaven's sake, lets be positive - we stand a damn good chance of getting a cinema in ED. To quote (ironically) the late Mrs T - rejoice! -
I alluded to UKIP'sd financial agenda in an earlier post. LD's detailed account above of their policies shows how potentially dangerous they are.

I thought that unlurked had been banned. The unlurked post quoted by strae above shows why this banning happened. -
Can you imagine if Milliband or Cameron had said that their last manifesto was garbage and that they hadn't even read it- they would be crucified. But Forage gets away with bloody murder. Perhaps he was tired when he said this (irony alert)
