    Wimbledon

    They will have to stop the game on health grounds at some point. Duty of care to the players and all that.

    40 all. This is unbelievable.

    38 and still going! ::o
  5. My prediction: Slovenia 2 - 1 England England to score the first goal, fairly early on. This will get everyone's hopes up. But as usual, they will miss loads of opportunities, their passing will be atrocious and they just won't gel as a team.

  7. Atrocious performance by England tonight :-$

    Mice

    I had mice in the kitchen when I lived in Forest Hill a couple of years back. I used this... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Procter-Bros-Ltd-PSERK-Electronic/dp/B000FII3YW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1275739473&sr=8-4 ... which was extremely effective (and very humane).
  10. How far could the oil spill spread? A rather scary video - Those who dismissed the link I posted at the start of this thread may want to watch this.

    The Shard

    Some pics I took over the weekend - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=57357737&postcount=2760 The core has reached level 28. It will have 87 floors when finished. It's difficult to overstate the impact it will have on the skyline... this building will be taller than the Eiffel Tower. B)

  14. This is becoming pretty serious now... http://blog.al.com/live/2010/04/deepwater_horizon_secret_memo.html And I just read this. Dunno how credible the source is, but it's rather scary, to say the least - http://bytemuncher.blogspot.com/2010/05/gulf-of-mexico-oil-rig-disaster-why-we.html

  16. Thanks Jeremy and PeckhamRose. My pic was featured in the Standard. There's an annotated version here, showing the project names and heights: http://www.willfox.com/portfolio/visualisation/eveningstandard.htm The Shard (London Bridge Tower) is the one to watch. It will be taller than the Eiffel Tower! Here's the official website... http://www.shardlondonbridge.com ... and a live webcam, showing the construction. Its currently about 20 floors up (will be 87 when finished) - http://www.siteeyelive.com/monitor/shard/camputer64.jpg
  17. I used to live at the northern end of Forest Hill, and there was a tower block with a fantastic view across London. Here's a panorama I took - http://www.willfox.com/portfolio/visualisation/londonskyline2007.htm Here's the same view in 2012. I've photoshopped all the new skyscrapers planned for the City, Canary Wharf, etc. including the Shard of Glass currently being built at London Bridge - http://www.willfox.com/portfolio/visualisation/londonskyline2012.htm
  18. I think it's a fantastic piece of architecture. Like the Gherkin, it's tall and slender, very futuristic looking... How can anyone call it an eyesore? We need more towers like Strata IMO. B) Loads of pics in this thread: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=289065&page=151
  19. I'll be 31 tomorrow. :( Can't believe how time flies. Seems like yesterday I was in my early 20's. Anyway, I was wondering at what age you think "youth" ends and middle age begins?

  21. Anyone who thinks artificial intelligence is a long way off should read "The Singularity is Near" by Ray Kurzweil. The graphs from that book are featured on this page - http://singularity.com/charts/page70.html Technology is growing exponentially. Moore's Law is the most well-known trend, but there are dozens of other examples. The speed, power and price performance of technology is basically doubling every year. This is true for pretty much every area of science - whether it's computing, nanotech, biotech, neuroscience, etc. It's all converging. According to Ray Kurzweil, we'll have accurate models and simulations of the entire human brain within 15-20 years. That's how fast things are progressing.
  22. The 176 is a joke. Half the time it's too full to get on.
  23. The 176 is a great route, very direct... but it's often terrible in the morning rush hour. Half the time, the bus is crammed so full that it never even stops (at the northern end of Lordship Lane, anyway). I just moved to East Dulwich btw, having spent the last 5 years in Forest Hill - this is my first post here :)
