  4. Chicken goes very well with pesto. You could try adding pieces of cooked chicken to pesto pasta or try flattening out pieces of chicken breast as described by Sandy and cooking in the oven with pesto to taste spread on top. P.s. Home made pesto is very easy and extra yum!

  15. I use this bus on a regular basis too and I find the timetable is pretty accurate.
  16. Ruxley Manor is pretty big and around an hour's drive away in Sidcup, Kent. http://www.ruxley-manor.co.uk/location.cfm
  17. Your toddler may be a bit young for this, but we always enjoy a bike ride on the Camel Trail when we stay near Padstow. It's a beautiful, traffic free stretch of disused railway stretching from Wadebridge to Bodmin. If you don't have your own bikes, there are several cycle hire places that have bikes with child trailers. http://www.padstowcyclehire.com/home.htm

  19. Agree with all the above comments on frequency. I would use this service much more often if it were reliable. Timetables indicate buses around every 10 mins during the day, but it seems to be more like 20-25 mins.

Second thoughts - no leper colonies in The Magus - it's a long time since I read it, but it's still a good holiday read.
  21. Hazelnunhead - I think you might be thinking of The Magus by John Fowles - another great holiday read!
  22. Another big thumbs down for The Slap - don't waste your precious reading time! I also loved The Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns and enjoyed The Help and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. I've recently joined Audible.com and loved the audio version of We Need to Talk about Kevin. I'm now going to add One Day to my list of holiday reads!
  23. A few of the local schools offer summer holiday sports camps. http://www.familiesonline.co.uk/LOCATIONS/London-South-East/Articles2/CHILDCARE-in-southeast-London/Holiday-Childcare
  24. Thanks Alice and Whirly. We'll check it out in the school hols.:)
  25. Has anyone used the Burgess Park go-kart track in Albany Road? Is it suitable for kids (14-year old boy) and do you have to book in advance? Thanks!
