Yas - are you actually reading the posts on this thread?
-
Huge assumptions regarding "non-parents" and you know what they say about people who assume I don't understand why you are spending so much time and energy arguing your case on the Forum, you are not reaching the decision makers who can change things, if indeed anybody can. Anybody who feels inclined to sign your petition will already have done so and your constant bickering is not likely to encourage others to sign. Can only think (a) This is just a wind-up as I've said before, a satire. (b) You're just looking for a fight.

Lewisham Libraries is not ED related. Isn't it time this thread was lounged?

I'm beginning to think Yas is just satirising the whole concept of petitions. I keep getting the image of Nigel explaining his amplifier goes up to 11.

I've cheerfully gone along with the idea that Christians appropriated the pagan festival of Eostre for the Christian festival of Easter that accounts for its funny little ways and seeming contradictions. But now I've read this Guardian article that has put paid to that idea. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2011/apr/23/easter-pagan-roots Thanks Guardian.

There's no need for double the number of bins where a house is divided into flats. The flat owners/tenants of a particular house could arrange to share their bins and get those that are surplus to requirement taken away.

Mac and Miller have a Twitter account, seems like it's something to do with clothes.

Yes, we couldn't possibly comment

"Some houses have 6 or more full size wheelie bins lined up outside." That's nothing, there are some houses in Barry Road that have nine! I see you share the large brown bin but it can be got rid of altogether by getting a small external food waste bin and using brown paper sacks (available from libraries and garden centre) for garden waste. There are also smaller, slimline versions available of both green and blue bins. There were a couple of threads on the subject when the blue bins were introduced in 2011 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,757080,page=1 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,741940,page=1 I think I may however have been brainwashed into accepting the garish colours. Walking around Streatham the other day where all the bins are a dark grey I thought how dull and boring they were!

Forest Hill Road Practice - in Meltdown ?
nxjen replied to George Orwell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Many thanks tasha1 for your more fully rounded and informative post about the difficulties, it seems the practice is suffering from the national problem of a shortage of GPs. I see that one doctor who left a couple of years ago has now returned. ETA Not sure if this is a result of the new system, but I've just phoned and managed to get an appointment for next week. -
Potentially a nice little earner for Wandsworth Council.

Southwark Plans for Camberwell Old & New Cemeteries.

Regarding Blanche's definition of what constitutes a tree, I think this may be the case she is referring to http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/general/news/stories/2009/feb/2009-02-Week-3/judgementgives This ruling referred to growth within a whole area covered by a Tree Preservation Order which as far as I'm aware does not apply to the Camberwell Cemeteries. -

What's happening now is just what happened on the thread that got lounged. A sensible discussion would get going then the CPG (thanks dbboy) would post their views that they've posted a zillionth time before and derail the discussion. They are using the Forum as a propaganda platform and to refuse to engage publicly with other posters on the forum by answering publicly posed questions is not in the spirit of the EDF. -

No, I have no evidence but equally its conjecture on your part that they won't. As they are keen to ensure no religious groups are at a disadvantage, I'm sure it's an option they've considered. For the sake of clarity, I have no problem with an area of land in either of the cemeteries to be set aside that meet the requirements for Muslim burial. -

You will see the strategy addresses the disadvantage that some religious groups may encounter at the present time. -

Sorry to be picky but this is a list of ALL council owned cemeteries within the London area. As you say, it states that not all the listed cemeteries may have space for ?new? burials, but it goes on to say that cemeteries with confirmed Muslim burial facilities have their names in italics - couldn't see an italic in sight for the whole list. The first entry is for a private, exclusively Muslim cemetery. -

Interesting. Of note it states: "The strategy has been formulated to ensure that the cemetery and crematorium service continues to meet the needs of all sections of the community, by addressing the shortfall in burial space. Initial scoping and evidence from the borough-wide public consultation shows that if the council were to cease providing burial in its cemeteries, some BME communities, religious and faith groups would be disadvantaged." Whilst COC may not be suitable for Muslim burials, I understand the Council's proposals for CNC will bring virgin land into use, hence meeting Muslim requirements for burial. -

This may be a tactic to ensure this thread doesn?t die, with the gaffe by Blanche regarding Muslim percentages and dbboy stating he would not be posting any more, it is likely to do so, and perhaps it wouldn?t be a bad thing. Though the thread is critical of and questions the protester group, for some there?s no such thing as bad publicity. He sure takes a lot of interest in what he?s dismissed as a ?small town forum?. If you think of the thread that got lounged, whenever the posts stopped, edborders would post something outrageous and bring it to life again. Classic troll behaviour. It?s also possibly a tactic to divert attention away from Blanche?s massive mathematical mistake. Shall I paste Loz?s post here to remind us? No that would be too cruel. Like ddboy I had decided not to post on the thread any more, ssw seem to be doing an excellent job of discrediting themselves, and I am happy to leave the matter to the Diocese and Southwark Council who are much better informed and more articulate than I am. My fear is that because of the swingeing cuts the council face, the works will be scaled down and/or delayed though this will not be as the result of any protest action. -

Condescending? This is an issue which initially I was undecided about, I contributed to the discussion as the misinformation, faulty logic, ludicrous arguments and sometimes simple ignorance needed to be challenged. But I have become so shocked at the callousness shown towards those, and the families of those who wish to be buried locally when their time comes that I have become a firm supporter of the Council?s plans. So well done. There are plenty of local habitats that are beneficial to stag beetles etc. Apart from the Camberwell cemeteries, there are no other places locally for human burial. Kemnal Park ? really? Blanche Cameron Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > [Regarding Muslim burials] It's unfair. It is a long stretch of the imagination to say that she agrees with you and that your accusations will be upheld. -

I would have thought if the Muslim community felt discriminated against regarding burial arrangements in the borough, they would already have raised the issue with the council. This would be the appropriate thing to do, not for ssw to play the discrimination card to further their own aims.
