  1. For those of you who've had one child pass the chicken pox onto another, could you pls tell me how many days passed before the 2nd child turned spotty? Our toddler woke up with spots on Thursday and so far our newborn hasn't gotten it. Was wondering when i could start celebrating. many thanks k
  2. Hi, we need to get a new oven and are looking at the Ikea line. Unfortunately its hard to find online reviews of their products and the oven we like isn't available at Croydon so we'd have to buy sight unseen. Does anyone have the Ikea Framtid OV10? If so are you happy with it? We could also go with good old John Lewis. We went to their strafford store but many ovens weren't hooked up. Its a long shot but if anyone has the JLBIOS612 are you happy with the child lock features? as they arent described in the features list. Thanks in advance, karen
  3. LOL! i am carrying really big so that could be an option if things get dicey. thank you both for responding. i had some problems early on with my first visa so every step has been a bit nerve wracking every since. happy thanksgiving to everyone!
  4. Hi ladies, I was wondering if any of you have gotten their UK passport and had to go for the interview beforehand. I became a UK citizen over the summer, applied for the UK passport and will have my interview in a few weeks. I'm a bit nervous, not sure if its because i'm 33 weeks pregnant, and knowing what types of questions they ask would calm me a bit. Happy to share my experiences thus far if anyone else is going thru it. cheers, K
  5. hi everyone, just thought i would forward this link in case anyone has forgotten to get their absentee ballot but still wants to vote https://www.overseasvotefoundation.org/vote/home.htm?utm_source=getresponse&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=midyearcheckin&utm_content=Voter+Alert%3A+Last+Minute+Ballot+News+and+Assistance if the link doesnt work, just go to www.overseasvotefoundation.org. My first presidential election here i had no idea how long the turn around time from requesting the ballot to actually receiving it was. I ended up going to the embassy with hours to spare. Hoping to save someone from my past mistake. I think most states now let you print out a ballot - the ovf website above will break it all out for you. hope everyone is well. looks like we're missing a doosy of an election season.
  6. hi- we're free on Thurs AM. We've havent yet been to a meet up.
  7. Hi, I'm relatively new to London and was hoping for some ideas of kid friendly activities around Waterloo. We have family from outside London who would prefer to visit us by train instead of a long drive. We'd all meet up around the train station. Kids are girls ages 6, 4 and 2. Is the aquarium age appropriate? Many thanks, Karen
  8. hello ladies, I'm due the 1st week of Jan with my second. Just wanted to say hello to everyone and join the club. I hope to make it on the 17th.
  9. that is really sad. Where do you think your daughter is hearing words like "diet" and "fattening" foods?
  10. hi- i'm late in joining this group, but am thrilled to see so many american's around. I'm a philly girl myself and we've lived in ED for a year. I have a 2yr old and one on the way (Jan). I really hope to make the next meet up. i just got my absentee ballot for the presidential election in the mail. Wish i could manage to stay up to watch the returns. warmly, karen
  11. Hi, its time to renew our 1st home insurance policy. I was wondering if anyone can recommend their contents provider especially if they have had experience with needing a pay out. We are currently with Endsleigh, has anyone had any experience with that company specifically? Appreciate any feedback. Cheers!
  12. one word on prevention, if you are walking out late (male or female) stick to main (or more populated) streets, the better lit side of a street or walk right down the middle of the road - you'll hear a car if it comes. You are not an easy target if you have to be dragged somewhere dark. If where you live is the dark side of the road, talk to your neighbors/ your landlord to improve the lighting and always carry cab fare. I confess that i've only lived in ED since having a baby so i've never been out past 11. I dont know how the streets feel at night or how well lit they are around these parts. my grandmom had stories of walking thru the streets in the middle of the night in neighborhoods that no one would dream of doing now, its a time gone by.
  13. hi - I am also trying to cut down on breastfeeds for my 13 month old. If anyone would like to share whether or how they replaced the boob with bottles or cups of milk? My daughter isn't impressed by cow's milk thus far. I'm wondering if i should warm it or try some other tricks? We just went cold turkey on the night feed which has been a week of slow progress. She still wakes up at least once expecting milk, but has gotten easier to settle with out it. (i never thought i would be so happy to get 5 hrs straight sleep). she still feeds at least 2x a day and just before bed, i would like her to start drinking milk in general so i can have a bit more freedom. Any advice would be appreciated. cheers,
  14. Hi Helena- i had my first baby at 38 and will probably go for no 2 this year at age 40. I found the book, the "fertility awareness method" very helpful. I got pregnant trying only a few months after charting my cycles. you mentioned you were in touch with your cycle but perhaps with age it make take a little more.....if you do want to put in a wee bit more effort, this book will have you in tune to your body more than you probably thought possible. Aside from that, its also a fascinating read, i learned stuff i should have learned 20 years ago! Best of luck -
