  1. I think this is the post from Ianr that you missed, Sue: ">Cyrena Dulwichiensis It looks as if there's at least one in the Illustrated London News, Saturday, March 24, 1860 [www.ebay.co.uk]. I could stick it on my next Colindale visist list."
  2. Kings definitely not being evacuated as of an hour ago. All seems quiet and calm around there. Sainsbury's DKH has its shutters down.
  3. My daughter has an appointment at King's this afternoon. Does anyone know if the whole area is closed off, or if it can be accessed via back streets?
  4. Completely agree with you, cmck. NO to vigilantism.
  5. Which side of the road is the bus stop you are referring to? I live opposite Francesca Cabrini School and have been keeping an eye out, but so far haven't seen anyone suspicous. I have a good view of the bus stop outside Cabrini House from my bedroom window, so might step up the surveillance if that's the stop you mean. Curtain twitchers unite!
  6. I think pretty much all those shops are owned by one family who can't agree on things -- hence the state of the ex Two Trees Coffee place a little bit further up -- also an eyesore.
  7. There has not, to my knowledge, been a significant road accident at the top end of Forest Hill Rd for at least 7 years. A few people bump into the back of the car in front of them, probably because they are travelling too close together. The intersection with Brenchley Gardens further down the hill has many more accidents. Is this the "hot spot" you are referring to, Renata? What "junction, crossing point and traffic management works" are being planned? Will the residents be consulted at all?
  8. It wasn't an accident. Apparently a young man collapsed and, despite the paramedics best efforts, died.
  9. I am getting post regularly for Ms Magdalena Mazur. If anyone knows her please ask her to get in touch via the forum. Thanks.
  10. Can someone say exactly where in Peckham Rye Park these muggings took place? I walk my dog there almost every day and would like to know which parts to avoid.
  11. We found that it was much better, in the end, not to correct my mother's ideas that my father and her parents were still alive. When she asked for them, we said they'd be along in a minute and a minute later she had forgotten that she wanted them. Otherwise she was reliving their deaths again and again and again, which was so painful for her. She is beyond all that now, thank God.
  12. You can get in touch with the National Fox Welfare Society and they will help you. In the past, I have got an homeopathic mange treatment from them, which really helped. Here's the link: http://www.nfws.org.uk/mange
  13. He was filming in the Saxby Garden in PRP.
  14. Lakeland sell fat absorbing paper sachets filled with coconut fibre, which you put in the roasting pan to soak up the fat. Then you just bin the fatty sachets.
  15. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-12781806 "A Metropolitan Police spokesman appealed for information from anyone who may have seen the incident, or the movements of the bus or girl." (BBC report) Seems not even the police know what happened exactly as yet. Doesn't seem right to state so unequivocally that the child ran in front of the bus unless one actually witnessed the tragic incident.
  16. Yes, it worked fine this morning.
  17. A new website was launched at midnight which gives the exact figures and locations for all types of street crime and antisocial behaviour in a particular area: http://www.police.uk.

I think they DID get photo approval. I think they think they look just lovely. I'm an adoptive parent and I must say that the Elton John baby story proves that you CAN buy children.
  19. Top end of Forest Hill Rd is like an ice rink -- cars and trucks slipping and sliding all over the place.
  20. A mini-cab is a good idea. Also, try ringing Age Concern. I used to do weekly shopping for an elderly lady when I volunteered for them.
  21. Such a tragedy.
  22. "Re the ducklings at Peckham Rye, there was no sign of them on Sunday afternoon - are they still there?" Sadly, no. The day after I first saw them, there was one left. It survived for a couple of days, and then there were none -- a bit like a rather gruesome child's nursery rhyme.
  23. Two brand new ducklings in the pond at Peckham Rye. I'm sure I have never seen such young birds so late in the year. And there are a few crocuses blooming in Horniman Gardens. The world has gone haywire.
