Teenager parenting book recommendation
tomskip replied to Cora's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've seen this book recommended elsewhere. Luckily haven't had any problems (so far) with my pfb teenager, but have a feeling things aren't going to go as smoothly with the second one! Will order a copy pronto :) -
More or less. I think its 30 days or something, can't remember, but we wouldn't have bought them if it was longer than that.

I would say premium bonds. The amount you "lose" in interest is so tiny compared to the amount you could win. My husband is self employed and saves a large amount every year to pay his tax. But the interest is miniscule, whatever account we put it in, and we only have the money for a maximum of 12 months. So premium bonds it is for us from now on.

How can I cross London to get to the A1 but avoiding congestion charge areas
tomskip replied to Cazz's topic in The Lounge
If you cross the river at Vauxhall Bridge, drive up Vauxhall Bridge Road, on to Hyde Park Corner, Park Lane, Marble Arch, Edgware Road - none of that is in the congestion charge zone. At the top there you can go right towards Camden (round London Zoo area? memory a bit fuzzy) and on to the A1 at Archway. -
I don't know where the carer of the child was. Or was that a rhetorical question? and how does the whereabouts of this child's carer have any bearing on the questions being asked about the performance of the Life Guards?

Alice, your post has really rattled me! Staff clearly did NOT know what to do as the little girl was pulled from the water by a member of the public. That is shocking in itself. The fact that she survived is down to the quick thinking of the young woman who jumped in to save her. Then she was left on her back and no call was made for a doctor or nurse! It's all there in the op.

Just to add that the cat's owner has been found. She is obviously very upset. It's such a terrible shame, it was a lovely young cat. I can't help but think if some selfish drivers didn't speed up Upland Road they would be able to stop for a cat!
-
Very sorry to report that one of my neighbours witnessed a black and white cat being run over on Upland Road this afternoon. The driver did not stop! Another neighbour has covered the cat's body with a sheet and it is on the road just outside number 347. What should we do now?
-
I've never been hemmed in either and I do like to cosy up to the cars near me. With power steering you'd practically have to have cars touching both bumpers to be hemmed in.
-
This is one of my bugbears too! I always park as close as I can to the edge of a drive or the car in front of/behind me. It's got nothing to do with claiming a space outside my house, just somewhere in the vicinity is nice. Yesterday a neighbour was parked right in the middle of two "spaces" just as you've described Huggers. There was some mild tutting and muttering from me, I don't mind admitting.

Hi, We're rather late to this thread, considering the tournament ends on Sunday! We have swaps and still need about 90 to complete our collection (myself and my 12 year-old son. I'm not collecting alone, honest). If anyone is interested, perhaps better to PM? We could list numbers we need and then meet to complete the trading? Thanks

My 12 year old's bike was been stolen from Dulwich Park this afternoon. Is it worth reporting this to the police or the park rangers? And does anyone have any tips on finding stolen bikes for sale, eg. what are the popular sites? Is it even worth my while trying to do this?

Dear Lord, some of the attitudes on this thread are pretty jurassic. Just for your info KalamityKel, it is not pathetic or neo feminist or stirring up trouble to object to the opening post of this thread, whatever op's motivation (or excuse) for posting it. Isn't it all a bit Carry On? I thought we'd moved on since then.

Yes, I mean lose the chance to play much of a part in their lives.

To my knowledge I only know of one member of my family who voted leave. I've never liked 'er and keep contact to the bare minimum anyway. It is very likely to backfire on her because her daughter needs to be able to work freely in the EU; she and her partner are self employed and have worked all over Europe for more than 10 years. Last year they decided to change jobs, settle down and live in the UK to start a family, whilst feeling confident that they could find work all over Europe in the future whenever they needed to. But now, this woman's daughter is planning to marry her Dutch/Australian partner and move to Australia and start her family there. My relative will more or less lose her daughter and future grandchildren. Stupid woman. I find it very difficult to forgive the Brexiters, I have to say.

Paying the first term's fees after choosing another school
tomskip replied to tercio's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Uncleglen, how can you possibly know that the op has chosen to pay school fees instead of foreign travel, expensive cars or a second home? Do you know something that the rest of us don't? (excuse thread derail but that just seems SO bizarre). -

I know someone whose elderly father, who has a recurrent c-dif infection which keeps landing him back in hospital, is going to have one of these transplants. The donor had to be a close family member ... not sure why. But, anyway, it's not all about vanity, this is an attempt to save an old man's life. -
That is an amazing picture. When my son was a very young baby, he was sitting on the kitchen floor one day while I was getting his older sister into the high chair for her breakfast, when I noticed him picking something up from the kitchen floor and, as all babies do, making immediate moves to put it in his mouth. I thought I'd better just check what it was ... glad I did, it was one of these monsters with all its nippy limbs waving. Have rarely moved so fast!

Last offered distances for primary schools 2016
tomskip replied to Fjgb's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It's not all that helpful for the average family thinking about school choices when these furthest distance offered figures include Looked After children and siblings. -
