  1. Yes, my daughter loves her school. She is about to start Year 11 and will almost certainly stay on for 6th Form (always a mark of a good school, I think).
  2. I think the Dulwich park cafe has been ok if not fine since it was last refurbished in the early 2000s (?) The CanYouPlease and CanYouPleaseNot laminated notices all over the place were amusing and some of them made perfect sense re. bringing pushchairs in, blocking toilets, making the children's play corner area all muddy due to not taking wellies off. Prices could be absurd though! Am interested to see who takes over. I also like Crystal Palace park cafe. A lot less pretentious.
  3. Seems so wrong to flush mineral water down the loo! I guess I was hoping there was some sort of communal water tap elsewhere in ED, or a bowser in the affected area. I wonder how long we have to be without water before TW are obliged to provide the bowsers? I do remember the great drought of 2003 (whoever asked earlier) but I went off to Kings to have my baby after the first 24 hours, so my memory of how long it lasted and when the bowsers appeared is a bit blurry.
  4. Any thoughts/ideas on toilet flushing? Or where can I go to get some buckets of non-drinking water?
  5. Just had a look at the Thames Water website ... about as useful as a chocolate teapot!
  6. I've got no water at all now. Lordship Lane end of Upland Road.
  7. What is the average summer water temperature at Brockwell lido?
  8. alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > maybe they were sitting out the front during the > theft. How could they be sitting out the front if they were serving customers (as op says) ?
  9. I've seen this book recommended elsewhere. Luckily haven't had any problems (so far) with my pfb teenager, but have a feeling things aren't going to go as smoothly with the second one! Will order a copy pronto :)
  10. More or less. I think its 30 days or something, can't remember, but we wouldn't have bought them if it was longer than that.
  11. I would say premium bonds. The amount you "lose" in interest is so tiny compared to the amount you could win. My husband is self employed and saves a large amount every year to pay his tax. But the interest is miniscule, whatever account we put it in, and we only have the money for a maximum of 12 months. So premium bonds it is for us from now on.
  12. If you cross the river at Vauxhall Bridge, drive up Vauxhall Bridge Road, on to Hyde Park Corner, Park Lane, Marble Arch, Edgware Road - none of that is in the congestion charge zone. At the top there you can go right towards Camden (round London Zoo area? memory a bit fuzzy) and on to the A1 at Archway.
  13. I don't know where the carer of the child was. Or was that a rhetorical question? and how does the whereabouts of this child's carer have any bearing on the questions being asked about the performance of the Life Guards?
  14. Alice, your post has really rattled me! Staff clearly did NOT know what to do as the little girl was pulled from the water by a member of the public. That is shocking in itself. The fact that she survived is down to the quick thinking of the young woman who jumped in to save her. Then she was left on her back and no call was made for a doctor or nurse! It's all there in the op.
  15. Him didn't get a reply to my recent request for swaps so having one more go. Here is a list of what we need and what we can offer in return. Hope to hear from someone who's still collecting, or just wants rid of some of their leftover swaps! 16. Just to add that the cat's owner has been found. She is obviously very upset. It's such a terrible shame, it was a lovely young cat. I can't help but think if some selfish drivers didn't speed up Upland Road they would be able to stop for a cat!
  17. Very sorry to report that one of my neighbours witnessed a black and white cat being run over on Upland Road this afternoon. The driver did not stop! Another neighbour has covered the cat's body with a sheet and it is on the road just outside number 347. What should we do now?
  18. I've never been hemmed in either and I do like to cosy up to the cars near me. With power steering you'd practically have to have cars touching both bumpers to be hemmed in.
  19. This is one of my bugbears too! I always park as close as I can to the edge of a drive or the car in front of/behind me. It's got nothing to do with claiming a space outside my house, just somewhere in the vicinity is nice. Yesterday a neighbour was parked right in the middle of two "spaces" just as you've described Huggers. There was some mild tutting and muttering from me, I don't mind admitting.
  20. Hi, We're rather late to this thread, considering the tournament ends on Sunday! We have swaps and still need about 90 to complete our collection (myself and my 12 year-old son. I'm not collecting alone, honest). If anyone is interested, perhaps better to PM? We could list numbers we need and then meet to complete the trading? Thanks
  21. My 12 year old's bike was been stolen from Dulwich Park this afternoon. Is it worth reporting this to the police or the park rangers? And does anyone have any tips on finding stolen bikes for sale, eg. what are the popular sites? Is it even worth my while trying to do this?

Dear Lord, some of the attitudes on this thread are pretty jurassic. Just for your info KalamityKel, it is not pathetic or neo feminist or stirring up trouble to object to the opening post of this thread, whatever op's motivation (or excuse) for posting it. Isn't it all a bit Carry On? I thought we'd moved on since then.
  23. Yes, I mean lose the chance to play much of a part in their lives.
  24. To my knowledge I only know of one member of my family who voted leave. I've never liked 'er and keep contact to the bare minimum anyway. It is very likely to backfire on her because her daughter needs to be able to work freely in the EU; she and her partner are self employed and have worked all over Europe for more than 10 years. Last year they decided to change jobs, settle down and live in the UK to start a family, whilst feeling confident that they could find work all over Europe in the future whenever they needed to. But now, this woman's daughter is planning to marry her Dutch/Australian partner and move to Australia and start her family there. My relative will more or less lose her daughter and future grandchildren. Stupid woman. I find it very difficult to forgive the Brexiters, I have to say.
  25. "well healed" Jay Rayner? As this thread has been bumped up today, how did the meetings go OP?
