  1. There is another thread on this, started yesterday.
  2. Which are the best roads in Sydenham and where do boys age 11+ go to school (state)? Apart from Forest Hill Boys.

    Foie Gras

I gave that original fois gras thread a swerve at the time but have read it now ... quite an education. Ugly stuff.
  4. You posted yesterday so its possibly too late, but the book I have most enjoyed in the past couple of years is the Keith Richards autobiography, Life. You didn't express a preference for fiction or non-fiction. I highly recommend, a rollicking good read.
  5. There is a small shallow pool at the National Sports Stadium (Crystal Palace) which is undisturbed by Saturday am swim lessons. Or, what about Peckham Pulse?
  6. Most if not all primary schools in SE22 have had a bulge class in the past few years. The population is booming and more school places are urgently needed. Have you seen the threads in the Family Room where many parents are extremely worried because their children still do not have a reception place at all? I have not heard of other schools consulting with parents ... I am not even sure we received a letter at all when our school took a bulge class. What is it that concerns you? Goodrich School was a 3 form entry which became 4 form entry for one year and as far as I am aware everything has been fine for that bulge class and the year as a whole.
  7. A slice of toast and marmite.
  8. Apologies for posting in the wrong section! Have now put it in classifieds, please feel free to delete this one.
  9. Maclaren Quest pushchair in good condition. Lightweight, umbrella fold, perfect compact holiday pushchair for taking on a flight or packing in a car laden with luggage/camping gear. The wheels have plenty of life left in them, the seat is grey and bright blue and the removable part has been machine washed and dried today. No raincover, but the shopping basket is still in good condition. We'd like ?20 for it, please pm if interested.
  10. If asked, I would give the practice 8/10. Have been with them since 1996. Their appointments system has certainly improved over the past few years.
  11. Did anyone phone the school and ask them? There is a small garden in front of the Old School House within the boundary of the school premises. I am not sure if the children are allowed unsupervised access to that garden during normal playtimes, but they certainly have lessons and learn about gardening and wildlife in that garden. Whatever, I am sure a 2 minute phone call to the school - 0208 693 1050 - would have established the facts.
  12. I have just looked at North Terminal long term parking and it is ?105 for our two weeks in July/August, so taxi better value for us.
  13. It seems unnecessarily cruel to let nature take its course when we have the resources near at hand to put an end to its suffering. Wild animals suffer pain and distress just as keenly as domesticated ones. Anyway, I hope its all over now.
  14. How would you propose catching the fox? I'm afraid it didn't occur to me that this might be something I could manage. I felt I had done my bit by alerting the park manager (who said she already knew) and trying to find someone who would come out to it.
  15. Ok, have just spoken to the park manager and she says they are aware of the fox. I just hope they can do something to help it. Many thanks for all the suggestions and links.
  16. Hi fatcats, the Beckenham organisation's website says they no longer provide a rescue service due to lack of volunteers. I think the poor thing is just going to have to suffer and die. Feel upset!
  17. Thanks for the messages and the pm. I have tried a couple of the numbers and, understandably enough, they won't come out unless someone is with the animal and has it in their sights. I think I really need to inform the park wardens but I am having difficulty finding a number! Will try the council ...
  18. Saw a badly injured mangey fox cub surrounded by flies this morning in the Sexby garden at Peckham Rye Park. I just wondered if there was a charity who would either rescue it or put it out of its misery? Am certainly not a fan of the urban fox, but this poor little creature was obviously suffering. I have searched the forum and the web for a telephone number for the park rangers but no joy. Any ideas?
  19. Its also worth considering that you would very probably be able to send your to The Charter secondary school, if you settle, which is outstanding and has a tiny catchment. Dog Kennel Hill primary is also a fine school. I have lived happily in East Dulwich since 1996 and would recommend it as a place to live for anyone, so long as you are ok with the eye watering housing costs.
  20. Raising Arizona
  21. Aha! (female here, despite username) I hadn't considered getting to Camberwell that way by bike, though I do it by car all the time. You mean the Lyndhurst Way route don't you? I might try that and then cycling parallel to C New Road, Myatt's fields sort of area. Good idea.
  22. Heber is a fab school! How lucky are you being offered a place at DVI when you live 20 minutes walk away? I always thought the catchment was tiny.
  23. Thanks for these suggestions, all very helpful. Am also grateful for that route planner, is sure to come in handy.
  24. Hi, can anyone advise on a reasonably flat and safe cycle route from SE22, near the Library, to Vauxhall? I really don't want to go along any main roads and don't mind how long it takes (within reason!). Thank you.
