There were deffo a few people interested who couldn't make it round mine. Maybe start a new thread, so people know you're up for another get-together? I'm sure Fiona would be very happy to make a date for you. (Eyelash extensions sounds cool too!) All the best :-) Saff (Anna)

Where to go? Day trip for winter first birthday?
Saffron replied to ClareC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
ClareC Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Originally was thinking the > London Aquarium but it doesn't seem to get good > reviews. Any other suggestions? > Oh dear! We went to the London Aquarium this summer when Little Saff was around 7 mo, and she loved it!! She boggled at everything, pressed her nose to all the glass, and slept for a solid 3 hours afterwards. It was great. Only thing that was a bit tricky was that I forgot to bring the baby sling. I ended up pushing an empty buggy and carrying Little Saff through the whole aquarium. Little Saff also has a Jan bday, and we're looking for things to do and places to go. I'll be hoping for some good suggestions on this thread. :-) -

Nope, that's not the case at all. Seeing a private specialist does not require any referral in most cases. If you can pay, you can generally be seen by any private specialist consultant doctor, provided s/he has the time to see you. >If > the private consultant decides to prescribe > treatment, you will be required to pay for it, as > your GP is not obliged to pay for it from his > budget. The private consultant can (a) prescribe you a course of treatment directly, for which you will need to pay. Or (b) can write to your NHS GP and recommend a course of treatment. Your GP is not required to follow this advice. However, if it is a reasonable course of treatment, there is generally no reason for the GP to disagree. This is what I have learned by personal experience with both the NHS and private medical systems, although others may have different experiences. -

Can you afford to see a private specialist? If you can, that's what I'd recommend. A private specialist doctor can then write a letter to your GP indicating what treatments he/she thinks are best. It's at your GP's discretion whether/not to follow this advice, but my experience is that if it's fairly reasonable your GP will be ok taking suggestions from the specialist. I have had very good success with this in the past. -
I got a goldfish for my husband. He has settled in nicely (goldfish, not Hubby, that is!). The cat has eyed him up with intrigue but been baffled by the aquarium lid. All this was much to the amusement of Little Saff and Hubby!

So if the rash has a vascular origin, that makes sense to see it in the morning. Blood collecting in the capillary bed or venules might take a some time to "fade"? If your drs are considering investigating lupus, it's worth ruling out polyarteritis nodosa. Also, if symptoms appear like livedo reticularis, could this be a form of Reynaud's phenomena, thus not related to any other medical condition underlying? And, finally, have you had a blood screen to test for vitamin/mineral difficiencies? Just food for thought. I share your frustration with the medical system. xx -
Replacing 10.30pm feed with formula - advice please
Saffron replied to KateW's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Kate- Little Saff had an occasional bottle of formula when I couldn't express enough milk, although it didn't help her to sleep through the night, grrr. Anyway, I just wanted to say that we found Breastflow brand bottles to be very good b/c they really seemed to stimulate the same muscle movement as bf, and the milk doesn't come out too quickly. So if you want to keep bfing for a while before you switch over to formula completely, I can recommend these. I still have 2 bottles w/ slow-flow teats suitable for new babies. PM if you want them. xx Saff xx -
I think I have an electric adaptor for Avent pump... let me check... Yes, I have an Avent Isis manual pump and the electric adaptor. Will PM you.

From The News of the Weird: 'Researchers at the University of Queensland revealed in November that parrot fish, which reside on Australia's reefs and need protection from blood-sucking, lice-like parasites, shelter themselves at bedtime with blankets of "snot." Typically, the fish's mouth-slobber, once it starts dribbling out, takes about an hour to ooze into place. [Wired.com, 11-18-10]' Snot races anyone?

I would have to say that lead-poisoning from fumes off the radiator is HIGHLY unlikely. In fact I would go so far as to say impossible. You need physical contact with paint flakes or powder (eg from abrading old paint). However, I asked Mr Saff who is a painter... He says there's a small possibility that the fumes are spirits in the paint base. This "off-gassing" should not last long he thought. So it doesn't seem hugely likely either, but you never know. There is still another possibility that I can think of... instead of off-gassing, something in the paint mix may be oxidising and giving off fumes. Elevated CO levels in a child could be caused by a variety of things. Deffo get a follow-up with your GP. I agree with the advice to replace the radiator, but be open-minded to other causes or sources of the problem.

Canceled our trip to Norfolk... worried about getting back to London on time for Mr Saff's work... plus the worry of leaving our pets unattended. It's a quiet holiday at home for us.

Just a note to say thanks for joining the fun, ladies. We were a small group in the end, so Fiona was able to take extra time with everyone. It was so much nicer than a slap and dash at the counter in Selfridges! If anyone is interested in organising their own capsule party with Fiona, or looking for bridal make-up etc, Fiona's website is http://www.ftmakeuplondon.com/. xx Saff xx

Taking acidophilis should not affect the breastmilk at all. Should be just fine.

People are allowed to solicit within shops? Was it a charity related to Co-op? You should write a complaint to management.

When babies refuse to go to sleep...
Saffron replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh no! I rem Little Saff was just like that!! Do you have a sling that you can breastfeed in? I have a ring sling you can borrow. xx -
Look for skin washes with salicylic acid. Neutrogena does some good ones. Also hot compresses are good. And put a tiny dot of toothpaste on any really bad spots before you go to bed. xx
