  1. Does anyone know if the old lady is ok? We drove past while they were obviously waiting for the ambulance to arrive and my daughter has been worried about her ever since. On a positive note, it's nice to see that there are so many lovely caring people in this area. The lady was being well looked after by those people who had stopped to help. I do hope she is ok and making a speedy recovery.
  2. I myself was just over 2lb at birth and I was a twin though not premature - in fact, my mother wasn't aware she was having twins when she gave birth! I spent several weeks in an incubator but am fit and healthy and had no developmental problems as a child. I was just a little on the small side but so are most of my family.
  3. I've seen Dr Higgins for psoriasis over the years - I've had it for 25 years now. She's the only doctor i've seen who has properly listened to me and prescribed ointment that can sometimes clear it up entirely but at worst manages the condition adequately. I'd highly recommend her and I sincerely hope your daughter and you find something that offers some relief. Skin conditions are miserable, particularly for little ones.
  4. I always use Avon Skin So Soft - its not marketed as an insect repellent but having worked with film crews extensively all over the world they let me in on the secret that they all use this stuff when they're out in jungle locations etc.! It does leave your skin beautifully soft, smells of citronella and most importantly keeps mosquitos away....and I get eaten alive even though my partner who won't have a single bite on him. And no, I'm not an Avon Lady!!!
  5. So does anyone have any great tips for keeping the costs down? I'm planning my wedding for next year. So far have field for free and will need to hire a marquee and furniture. I'm thinking a BBQ for food. About 80 guests including 24 children!
  6. I'm getting married next year and planning to hire a marquee - someone's very kindly offered us the use of a fild close to the church. I'm hearing very contradictory accounts of 'do's' in marquees. What do you reckon - would you or wouldn't you?
  7. I requested ending the summer term one day earlier and was declined at Goodrich! Previous head.
  8. Very tough. I want to be at home giving my children cuddles!
  9. My little one went straight into a full size single bed - which is a godsend when she is ill and needs cuddles through the night. Either I sleep in her single bed with her, or she sleeps in the big bed with one of us and the other one can sleep in her single bed.
  10. Sleep, sleep and more sleep! I'm jealous!
  11. I've got over it now, Huguenot! My faith in human kindness was restored by the two lovely witnesses. They didnt have to tell me, declare their names, fill in paperwork, give up a day of their time etc but did so as a gesture of kindness and sympathy. It's hard to be angry when people are so considerate.
  12. This happened to me - there were two extremely kind witnesses who came forward (I didn't see it). Despite the witnesses, the woman denied hitting my car when police visited her. She insisted on us taking the case to court. In the meantime my insurance costs rose by about ?1k because the risk was sat with me since I hadn't been proved right at that point. Myself and the witnesses had to take a day off work. We sat in court waiting to be heard for several hours and she phoned to say she was running late. A few hours later she pleaded guilty by phone. She was fined about ?300 I believe and had 3 points on her licence so I still think I came off worse. I reclaimed some, but not all, of the increased insurance premium (less than half) and I had to take a day off work and juggle childcare. So in short, I sympathise with you enormously!
  13. Congratulations! My boyfriend proposed on Christmas Eve after 20 years together and 2 gorgeous babies. I'm still in shock!
  14. We went to Kalkan with a 1 year old and 6 year old. It is very hilly so it's tough going with a buggy but easy to pick up taxis or just use a hire care. Nice easy place to be aside from that.
  15. If I arrive home at school pick up time I don't have a hope of parking near my home. But great at weekends and I don't have anyone overlooking my garden at weekends when we most use it. Easy to get children to school in the morning too!
  16. Worth getting online shopping delivered to your log cabin if you can - and easy to order in advance.
  17. I have a daughter in Year 2. I have nothing but praise for the school. I think we've been particularly lucky with the teachers our daughter has had and I feel she's had more individual attention than I would ever have expected in a non-fee paying school. She even has extra maths classes in the mornings to improve her maths. When the previous head was there I felt there was a lack of any leadership. I don't feel that way now. The new head has had a very positive impact and I do feel like he's clearly identified what problems there were and is doing something about them. The school has a huge community behind it. The mums I know there are incredibly friendly and supportive - I couldn't think of any reason why anyone wouldn't want their child to go there. The teachers really have been amazing with my little girl. That's my experience - I appreciate everyone is different and perhaps it will change the further up the school we go but to date I can only say how pleased I am.
  18. I'm very happy with Goodrich - and it seems to be going from strength to strength at the moment. A new head came in a year or so ago and transformed the school - identified the problems, told everyone how he was going to sort them out and got on with it. The teachers are lovely and I've been overwhelmed and proud to be a part of such a lovely, friendly community school.
  19. Two options: Overland to London Bridge. Jubilee line to Bond Street Central line to White City. or Overland from Peckham Rye to Clapham Junction. Overland from Clapham Junction to Shepherds Bush. Both routes take a similar amount of time.
  20. I'm on my third week of the fast diet. Have found that I find it more mangeable if I save all my calories for an evening meal. I still need cups of tea (with milk) throughout the day along with loads of water....and I have a main meal in the evening of around 400-450 calories. It's getting easier!
  21. I haven't lost any weight this week either but also haven't made it to the gym as only just coping with the return to work. It was only week 2 on the diet so I'm determined to give it more time than that. Can't believe you lost 7.5lbs Pebbles - I dream of doing such things!!! Thanks for congrats smiler - feel slightly shy telling my friends when I'm over 40 with 2 kids! But I have to lose weight before any wedding! I've given up skinny lattes with sugar for black sugar free americanos. Fingers coprossed results will be more positive next week! Good luck with the week ahead everyone.
  22. I've just started it super golden. I'm at the end of a fasting day today. Was starving and craving carbs but used the last of my calories on a lovely cup of tea which has sorted me out. I'm only in week 2 and can't pretend I've found it easy. Dr Michael Mosley is a colleague of mine and I do trust his advice. I saw him at Christmas and the first thing I noticed was his dramatic weight loss. I'm desperate to shift about half a stone so I'm determined to do this. The hardest thing is feeding the kids when you're starving but I'm learning what I have to do to make that situation easier now. I've tried doing a lunch of around 120 calories and the rest in the evening, but today I tried saving all he calories for my vending meal. Until 3pm was fine but struggled a little after that. I think I need to lock down some really tasty recipes to succeed at this.
  23. I have no excuse - 2 years since second baby was born. I don't have masses to lose but enough - maybe 5kg. I've spent about 9 months calorie counting with fitnesspal and exercising (5k run) three times a week. It's made no difference at all. I sometimes feel my body is at a weight it feels comfortable with and there's nothing I can do to shift it......but my boyfriend of 20 years proposed on Christmas Eve and I don't want to be a fat bride as well as an old bride!!! I must confess I love food. I love wine. I hate exercise!!! So it's something of a challenge coupled with the fact I work full time, an hour long commute each way and a 2 year old and a 6 year old to look after. But I am going to do something about my weight in 2013. I have just started the fast diet - 5 days of eating normally and 2 days of fasting each week (not consecutive). Maybe it will work, maybe it won't but it seems worth a try. I could be clutching at straws! Only 2 fast days completed so far - and its not total fasting - you consume 500 calories on fast days. Will see how it goes. God luck to everyone else. Trish
  24. Who looks after the children? Are they qualified, CRB checked etc?
