  1. I think everyone from Peckham/ED should move to crofton park/brockley!
  2. welcome to the area! ballet: try EOS ballet on sat mornings gymnastics: charisma hair... I get my hair cut by a lovely lady called kirsty - comes to your house and really amazing number is +44 7901 554222 good luck! claire
  3. We moved... But only to crofton park! Same house.in ED would be ?250k more... And prob a bit smaller with less garden... Schools are also better and many others moving... No brainier to get in quick before it gets equally expensive...
  4. Hi I had a VBAC 9 weeks ago after having a EMCS with my first... I can honestly say that despite episiotomy and connotes it was a SIGNIFICAntLY better experience from both a birth and a recovery point of view. I actually kind of enjoyed it!!! No real pain relief (some G&A on route to the hospital) and I felt amazingly in control... It was a very emotional experience to see my baby come out of me and be able to hold him straight away... Cannot recommend vBAC enough! I also really commuted to the hypnobirthing this time as I was also quite anxious before (like you, also naturally a bit anxious about things!) - it was really useful - I felt totally in the zone. I did a specialise VBAC hynobirthing cd which I could root out the name of! Happy to chat if you want, just PM me. Good luck whatever you decide.
  5. Yes, great news that the community midwife groups are not at risk... Such an amazing service. Thanks for responding Maxine
  6. We went to finca Malvasia in lazarote it was lovely
  7. I reckon do both to really get the message across although I assume if just one, writing to the head of midwifery may get more attention.
  8. I have just moved from ED to crofton park.. If they do a primary, I hope it will be better than the secondary currently is...
  9. We swim with Karen at east dulwich, she is a very good teacher... Would recommend. Not worth the money on private classes as they teach the same thing...
  10. My daughter is at little jungle and we are very happy with it... Their response to waiting lists does appear to be poor as I've heard this from a few people but once in, it's very good and has a real community spirit. I've moved out of the area and decided to keep my daughter there because I can't imagine finding a nursery locally I will like as much.
  11. Love aneto! He is the friendliest man around... And very kiddie friendly despite little space for prams...
  12. I have heard a rumour that Kings may withdraw the funding for community midwife case loading... Has anyone else heard this? I had both my babies with the lanes midwife practice and cannot imagine other expectant mothers not having the opportunity to access that level of care... Most of my friends and family who live elsewhere cannot believe I - had all my appointments at home - knew my midwife - in fact Erica was present at both my births in some capacity - had an unbelievable level of support before, during and importantly after the birth of my children. Both times I had feeding issues and I wasn't discharged until they were confident both me Andy child were on track. Because of the service I was lucky enough to have I went intoy Labour happy, confident and secure in my ability to 'do it!'. They also supported my choices. Kings should be setting the tone for other hospitals ands king this time of servi e available to More new and growing families not withdrawing it... I've heard just as many positive things about oakwood and the brierley too from friends. Has anyone else heard this? I am thinking of writing to the head of midwifery as someone who has benefited from a community lead service to try and stop funding being cut...
  13. Have used Alison and Elaine at therapy rooms, both are amazing! X
  14. I didn't get very far I'm afraid and are doing research minus recommendations now! Also looking at getting one built by a gardener! Good luck! It certainly looks expensive if you want it properly insulated!
  15. Hi We are thinking of building an office/small studio in our garden - has anyone done this or got any advice? Is it best to use a builder/chip pie or buy a kit? Any advice would be very welcomed!!! Thanks
  16. jennyh - feel your pain - we are going through the same trauma....
  17. in africa they have poor sanitation, poor healthcare, many children are malnurished and deficient in vitamin A - which means you will be more likely to suffer from complications if you catch measles. In the same year in England there were no deaths from measles.. http://www.hpa.org.uk/web/HPAweb&HPAwebStandard/HPAweb_C/1195733835814
  18. I think the general point on here is a general one about vaccination and it's a good debate to have. A very good friend of mine is a teacher with special training in autism - he has made it his total focus for the last 10 years to help children (and parents of) live with autism. His view is that, despite it not being scientifically proven, that there is definitely an (albeit) anecdotal link from what he has seen and heard from the parents he works with. I was really interested by the doctor who off the record said they would not be vaccinating their children, I was also interested to find out that a friend of mine who is a health visitor who has not vaccinated any of her 3 children as she had seen too much vaccine damage in her work (i was very surprised by this). I am not trying to scare monger and i absolutely accept that the risk of serious complications from vaccination is very rare, however, my belief is that the risk of serious complications from the childhood diseases is also now in this day and age rare. For me, my biggest concern is the effect that combination vaccines can have on an underdeveloped immune system - how does an 8 week old immune system stand up to that - intuitively to me that feel wrong. I had measles and mumps as a child, survived and now also have fully immumity not partial (as the jabs are not 100% effective). I think every parent has the right to choose and do what they feel comfortable with for their child. Neither is wrong or right and people should not be judged for the decision they make. I chose not to vaccinate my child for my own reasons - I really agonised about it so read up on lots of literature to help me get informed and decide. For anyone who is not sure what they want to do, i'd say do the same so you are making an informed choice. I read a few things: 1. i went to the website: The informed parent 2. Comparing natural immunity with vaccination (trevor Gunn) 3. MMR, understand your choices by Will and Lara Sussman. I found them all balanced and fair. Neither option is without risk. we live in a democratic society - so do the research and make a decision based on being personally informed = not because we are pushed by the NHS or other parents. It's a personal choice. how lucky we are to have that choice. I think if you choose to vaccinate, waiting until they are a bit older, spacing them out more or looking into privately getting single vaccines is an excellent compromise. but as i said, it's just an opinion.
  19. was your friend's teenager daughter ok after getting mumps? I think there is a lot of unnecessary fear around the jabs and the illnesses - and part of it, like with the being on time is to do with 'hitting the numbers' as all GP surgeries are bonused on hitting immunisation targets. The government is very dependant on the funding they get from the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture them. With medicine so advanced these days i think the risk of complications is very rare - so it's all a bit of a toss up for me. there's a risk either way. I'd say to anyone, do the research and make your own mind up. Later and more spaced out is always a good thing through as it's less of an onslaught on the immune system. just another opinion tho' i accept.
