Autumn babies club - due dates
Au'Lait replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I haven't visited this thread in a while, I've been a little busy with my little guy. Lewis was born at home 2 1/2 weeks early on the 5th of September. Before we collected (~let alone set up) the birth pool or hired the Tens machine. My water broke at about 1:30 in the morning, at 6:30 after the contractions had slowed a little the midwife pronounced me to be only 2-3 centimetres and so we sent her home and tried to get a little rest. At 10 I sent hubby out to try and buy a tens machine, but he took too long (apparently they are hard to come by on a Sunday morning) and the baby arrived (at 11:33) before he got back. The midwives had been picking me up a pool, so they called an ambulance which arrived at 11:13 and they came about 10 minutes later so it was all a bit hairy there for a while, I was by myself, pushing involuntarily, wondering how I could catch it myself so it didn't hit the floor! All good though, with an apgar of 10 10 we were pretty happy. So much for long labours and late first babies! Congratulations to all the other Autumn Mums who have had their babies, and good luck to those who have yet to pop! -
If you want both touchscreen and qwerty keypad the sony experia mini pro is a lovely wee thing. Great for texting and email, and with access to all sorts of android apps (many of which are free, yay!)

It's the 6th of September, not the 7th isn't it?

They'll be just fine. If your teats are rubber and not silicone that will perish with time, but it'll be pretty obvious if that's happening.

Maybe it'll be a Waitrose?

autumn babies club-next meet up cafe nero this sunday?
Au'Lait replied to millsa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'd love to come along though I'm not sure I'll make it quite that early, being as lazy as I am in the weekends.. -
Sounds like you're doing great! To be fair, she probably can't predict when she needs to go, that's a big part of what she's learning but in fact not the most important part to start with. Learning to let go and pee on demand is the biggest thing, and by just spending a little time focusing on things she'll get it. Best advice I can give you is to keep the fluids going in to maximise chances, Flood her with whatever she will drink, be it full of sugar or tooth decaying acid. If she's doing mini pees, and getting up just before she does one, then I'd say she can definitely feel it coming and is thinking about it and you are not too early at all. Swallow your impatience and paste on your happy face.

Any expectant mums (and dads) want to meet for coffee?
Au'Lait replied to HOMum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ok, so how about Monday evening around 6:30, if it's too short notice I can make Friday or the following Monday. Thinking of Kit though, are you due any day now and maybe you won't make the next week.. -
It's only day two. There will be a lot of pee on the floor. Relax. It gets worse before it gets better.

Is the high chair ?150 better than this one?

I can do most evenings, from about 6:30 except Wednesdays. Anyone else? -
Oh, I seem to have started a whole new thread! Not sure how I did that..

If you're not feeling thin don't what ever you do go and try on jeans in H&M. I went to get maternity jeans a few months ago when I was at the 'just looking fat' stage and feeling horrible and I tried jeans in my normal size, couldn't get them past my knees! I tried a size bigger and had the same problem. Really didn't need that. After spending the whole day up and down Oxford St feeling swollen and sick I realised that most stores don't stock their full maternity range and most stuff can only be got online. I got some fairly nice, cheap stuff from Matalan, and jeans and basics from Next. I also picked up some fat lady style tunic tops, not actually materntiy that I have just lived in now that the bump is like a small planet and several of my maternity tops are not long enough to go over it and reach the top of my jeans.

I guess you've had you little girl by now, hope everything went smoothly and you're feeling ok. Looking forward to an update when you're ready. -

Hi Kit, As it happens, (and as I have the intellectual capacity of your average housefly these days) I hadn't realised when I made my last post that I actually start my antenatal classes this Wednesday, so I'm actually not able to do Wednesday evenings for the next 3 weeks. Another day? -

Sorry I didn't make it last time, I'd like to meet up again soon though. I'm not on mat leave yet so I can't do daytimes but is anybody still interested in the Wednesday evenings? -
Is it so terrible that he needs reminding? He's a two year old boy! He has important stuff to think about! That's probably how you and I and just about everybody on this forum started our toilet training before the whole waiting till they're 'ready' thing. Till they're ready to go it alone? I don't understand why we need to wait for that, they just need a little help from us and isn't that what we're here for? As long as he's getting in in the loo and not filling up the world with more nappies I think he's grand.

Advice on digital camera for a 2.5 year old
Au'Lait replied to sazzle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I bought a camera each for my nephew and niece when they were three I think. I looked a the kids ones and decided they were just overpriced rubbish, the photos they take are of such terrible quality that even on the off chance they take a good picture it's not really printable. I bought them each a cheapie from ebay at a cost of about ?12 each. They have loved them and have learned to be very careful with them. I figure even if (when) they do break, they cost between a half and a third of what the kids ones do, they've taken some printable photos and felt very privileged and trusted in the meantime because they have a grown up camera. -

It was lovely to meet you all, I really like the idea of a regular meet up though I can't make the 23rd of June. Look forward to seeing you on the 7th of July though. -

I'm on my first too, and this is a good time/day for me. The Autumn club alternative is 10:30 on a Sunday morning when to be honest I plan on being snuggled up having a sleep in with my husband while I still can! -
