  1. and the terrorists do claim to have been 'at war' and do claim what i would consider to be nothing other than murder as 'casualties of war.' And i agree with you entirely that they should be willing to apologise and would love to see that day too. However the onus on the Government to apologise is very different. The British Government acts on behalf of every British citizen and is meant to uphold the law, as is its army by extension. No terrorist ever committed any act in my name. The same cannot be said of the Government. KEEF 'and a lot of names have been cleared 38 years too late'. That is justice. Yes, very late, but justice all the same. And more than many expected. SCS s it a normal course of action to carry a nail bomb in your pocket? As one of the "victms" was? The teenage victim was found to have three nail bombs actually. And there is no excuse. However those three nail bombs shouldn't, and haven't been, allowed to taint the respectability of the victims.
  2. it's so simple. the victims were wrongfully and unjustly accused of being terrorists engaged in terrorist activity and therefore considered legitimate targets and shot dead. That was a massive miscarriage of justice. Would you not see it that way if they had been gaoled instead for 38 years and released yesterday as the innocents they are? SCS - Terrorists by their very definition act outside the law. The atrocities of Bloody Sunday and the Widgery Report were carried out by the British Army and the British Government who are supposed to be and uphold the law. There is a massive massive difference.
  3. yes Brendan that is right and why Marmora Man is so wrong to suggest that those wounds were almost healed by time. I am a Derry girl and believe me, 38 years has come nowhere close to healing them. it is awful to prematurely lose a loved one in any circumstances but to lose a child/parent/partner shot in the back whilst trying to escape the official army, and who is then branded a terrorist and a threat and therefore a legitimate target, is simply too much to expect time to heal. Justice was needed and mercifully delivered by the truth. Also consider how many of Derry's citizen's gave eyewitness reports and how many more didn't but saw first-hand what happened and have had to live with the lies of the Widgery Report, backed by the official government. That was a truly oppressed community. It was not just the families who saw justice and exoneration yesterday. yes the past is past. But it's not over till it's over either. And that only happened yesterday afternoon. And so today is the day to move on. The families have always said they wanted justice and they got that in the form of Saville's incredible report and Cameron's ensuing apology. So far it does not look like there is a desire to prosecute coming from the families. A very very moving day. *edited for clarity of my references*
  4. hi rydalema, just to say i'm thinking about you. That sounds horrible and i hope it gets resolved soon. stay well xoxo
  5. i have a daughter at nursery in Goose Green too. The staff are incredible and my child has really thrived there. i think it is a lovely school and i am so pleased at this result - they truly deserve it!
  6. thanks for the lovely night out guys. i really enjoyed meeting you all and hope our paths will cross again...
  7. thanks pickle and ryedalema - see you there.
  8. no prams in le chandlier is probably a plus to most grown-ups, including and especially the pram-pushers themselves who ocassionally get to go out without it- and space is a different issue in a restaurant. i just think it is/was really bizarre to ban such a huge portion of your passing trade. the one and only time i went in the man in question gave me a good five minutes to struggle with the door, pram, bags of shopping, crying baby, my usual glamorous accoutrements, and waited till i got to the counter to ask him something before he told me i wasn't allowwed in and did i not see the sign on the door. nope. i had been holding the it open with my arse. and he put me out! and there was no-one else in the shop! that's over two years ago and i still can't believe it. getting out that door was a lot quicker than getting in.
  9. i'm new too and would love to come along. that's ok i'm sure? what time and how will i know you all?
  10. if you have a shop on lordship lane and then you decide not to let prams in - how long do you think it will last?
  11. i think you shouldn't necessarily go against the girl's mother. and if the girl herself is happy... and also you could be pushing the rate up for other people she sits for who then maybe won't be able to afford her. i am a firm believer in fair wages. the last baby sitter i had cost me ?9 ph several months ago and i haven't been out since because i can't afford it. it doubles the cost of a night out. during the day anyone looking after children certainly works hard and deserves it - but i simply don't understand ?9ph or even ?7ph to sit on my sofa watching telly with the lovely wine and chocolate i leave and maybe not even SEE my children! i'm not a moany cow - but this has been a serious issue with me for a while.
  12. thanks EDmummy. poison and nutella it is then...
  13. i thought i had gotten rid of mine but they are back - and seem totally resilient to everything and not afraid to give me a good eyeball too. horrible little things. they have ignored every type of trap i put down and i even found poo ON the sonic alarm. like he was leaving me a little message. the only thing i haven't tried is poison. i have two children so i have obvious concerns there - but i also heard that if you use poison they can die in wall cavities and under floorboards and really stink for ages. can anyone confirm or negate this? (home-made trap - get the paper tube from a kitchen roll and smear one end with peanut butter. Place it over the edge of a counter top just before the tipping point. Bucket of water underneath. i caught two like that. easier to clean up than the traps. so what if they take ages to drown - i am so over that. i have looked inside my toaster....)
  14. thank-you pickle i did do a search for a relevant thread but nothing came up - glad not to have missed this. O
  15. have sent a pm
  16. ...who fancy a night out, or coffee during the day - whatever suits? All my friends are in couples and i would really love to meet some local single parents of either gender... ollie
