Surely the point is that too many people don't make a point of regularly looking up to see if anyone needs their seat? Worse still - people occupying the PRIORITY seats still take no regard, gluing themselves to their phones, or even taking a snooze. People with badges are frequently not offered a seat because no one is looking. I don't blame people who are not brave enough to ask for a seat. It's embarrassing to make a fuss and watch the uncomfortable shuffles as everyone waits for someone else to offer first. I think first time mums are particularly guilty of this. I've even had someone hastily decline when I spoke up in a packed carriage even though she clearly needed and wanted a seat (didn't have my own seat to give). It's especially difficult if you're not used to having any entitlement to a seat and long-accustomed to jam packed London transport. Thinking about it now, why dont tfl do a badge that anyone needing a seat can wear - not just baby badges (which I've also been told is also quite distressing if you're a commuter struggling to conceive!). It would help people like Sid, but also you don't want to wear a baby badge in the first trimester when you might actually need a seat the most!

Hello everyone, I've been trying to sort out our family wills for the first time, and have been directed to this charitable scheme running during November. Seems like a fabulous idea, so here is a link for anyone else interested... http://www.willaid.org.uk/will-makers Just a shame that none of our local solicitors are listed!

Did anything come of this? I speak a little bit of Japanese, attempting to teach my half-Japanese daughter and now started taking up classes in central london again. The best way to learn more would really be through taking her to more Japanese playgroups but they do seem to be few and far between (and not on my days off!).

Mm.. All good suggestions! Unfortunately chicken was for chicken rice today, rather than roasting so limited choice of what to do with it (and I just made stock yesterday with some carcasses - doh!). BUT seems that I could make some liver stuffing and keep it in the freezer, and will most likely make yet more stock with the rest. Thanks all!

It's only a tiny amount - surely not enough to make much difference to my stock?? Wondering about frying?

Just opened packaging on tonight's chicken and found my first ever bag of giblets! Any suggestions on what I can do with them? Ta!

That seems pretty reassuring. Thanks so much for the tips. It seemed like a long walk when I visited but then I had no idea where I was going!! The nursery manager seemed to be saying there wasn't much parking available around? I'm planning to test out my route from work tonight by public transport and see how long it takes!

Goose Green Toddler group - is it still running?
mooncake replied to Hill's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We haven't been for a little while but it was running before Christmas... -
Hi, We've been offered a place at the Mother Goose Greendale nursery but I'm a bit worried about the distance from ED / Denmark Hill stations. Just wondering if there are some shortcuts / bus routes I don't know about? I don't know the area well and would ideally want to drive & park somewhere for the day and commute from there.. Equally I have no idea if there is actually anywhere reasonable to park!! Any help you can offer would be much appreciated - she's with another provider at the moment but we really want to move her ASAP as its not doing too well. Thanks in advance!

Taxi firms with baby car seats - Rye Cars
mooncake replied to mooncake's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I guess you can never really tell. We got sent the wrong car seats with Linkways even though we'd told them our baby was only 3 months old at the time. We then got driven around to Honor Oak for no apparent reason and then back again to East Dulwich where the car seat we actually needed was located before heading off to the airport. He could have gone and sorted everything out first and then picked us up, but instead it meant I'd had to do the milk feed early and then got stuck in the car with a screaming hungry baby when the delay got us stuck in the thick of rush hour. maybe the worst thing though was that the driver really wanted to have a massive political debate / argument (?!) the entire journey - not what you need when you are new parents! -
I've been meaning to write a post on this for ages - after a terrible experience with Linkways in Honor Oak, we recently tried Rye Cars for a couple of journeys and were so impressed with them I wanted to recommend to others. Their drivers were on time / early, incredibly polite and honest - I paid one driver ?10 too much as I'd misheard the price and he gave it straight back to me without a second thought. Their cars were also very clean and the price good, even for a night time pick up from central London. The only thing was that we had to fix the baby seat in ourselves as I don't think the driver really knew how to do it, but that was fine by us. We will definitely be using them again!

I'm thinking about getting the tripp trapp too, but is it only suitable for tables of a certain height?? If so, what height? Am guessing I won't be able to use it at the breakfast counter in the kitchen... unless you can get a separate tray?

Hi, My baby is 4.5 months and I'm not sure whether she's ready to drop her afternoon nap. For the last 4 nights she's been awake in the middle of the night for 2-3+ hours(!!) and I just can't seem to do anything to help her back to sleep again. She just seems very awake. We've done some sleep training to help her settle in her cot and normally she'll go to sleep within 5-10 mins for naps so it's definitely wakefulness, rather than difficulty sleeping. What's especially weird is that there is no way I'm able to keep her up for 3 hrs straight in the daytime without her getting extremely upset! She's like clockwork - always ready for a nap 2 hrs from when she last woke up. She's currently having 30-45 mins in the morning, 2hrs at lunchtime and about 20 mins in the afternoon, which doesn't seem unreasonable from what I've read. It's also the routine she pretty much fell into herself, though she has always found it harder to settle for the last nap. The only thing I can think of is that I generally register from when she first goes to sleep, so maybe she's having a lot more rest time than I'm counting and therefore too much? What does the almighty parenting experience of East Dulwich think?! Thanks a lot!
