  1. Hi MadWorld74. I had exactly the same problem with them last December and changed doctors because of it. I too had a chest infection and am asthmatic. I called the first morning (took me over 20 minutes to get through) and they said the appointments had run out and that if I called back the next morning at 8.30am I would be seen that day. I duly called and again it took me ages to get through on redial to find they couldn't see me again. By that point I was pretty desperate but in my view that sort of a problem isn't one for A&E and NHS Direct can't prescribe me antibiotics and steroids! So my husband called Forest Hill Road surgery and I was seen within half an hour (even though I wasn't on their books) and transferred to that surgery permanently. I've never not been able to see or speak to a GP on the day I've called. Doesn't help unless you can hcange surgery - something worth looking into? Get well soon.
  2. We went to Magnolia on Friday evening for drinks and food and were impressed. There's a good selection of drinks and the food was really good quality at reasonable prices. They'd had a really busy evening as it was their first full service but they seemed to be managing just fine. We had 2 beers, a nice bottle of Rioja, a starter to share, 2 mains and a huge banoffee pie to share for dessert and it all came to less than ?50 including the tip. The only downside (and this is being really picky!) was that it was a bit cold in there on Friday night so I imagine if it wasn't as full I'd have to keep my coat on! I'll definitely be going there again....
  3. I may just have to venture that way this evening... Our local is The Herne but getting a bit weary of the service at the moment and the food wasn't up to scratch on our last 2 visits. Plus really must stop just walking 3 minutes down the road and branch out a bit - sheer laziness! What's going on at The Duke next Friday Sean?
  4. I think a trip to The Duke to try it out might be in order based on these reviews... Has anyone been on a Friday night? Is it busier than the 'empty' other evenings some people have commented on?
  5. Trinity - yes I'm pretty sure it's not one of the sort on Therapia etc as it is to run from outside my front gate and we're not the right near the end of the road. I will of course double check - thanks.
  6. Hi Andy I appreciate that speed bumps are a useful means of slowing drivers down on some roads however they are not necessary or appropriate in all cases. We live on a very short and quiet road where a driver would have difficulty reaching 30mph let along 60mph. Some of the residents, including some who have children themselves, do not support the Council's decision to put a full width speed bump at one end of our road. Some of us feel that the speed bump would cause more problems for the residents of our road than it would solve which is why I asked my original question. Cheers
  7. Hello Has anyone had experience in opposing the Council's plans to put in new speed bumps on their road in East Dulwich? We hope to convince the Council not to put in a full speed bump on our small road for various reasons, but not least because it simply isn't needed and isn't wanted by many of the residents. We just wondered if anyone has any help or experiences to share? Thank you :)
  8. We had good service from Haart when we were looking to buy until it came to the offer stage - we put in an offer for the full asking price for a quick purchase only for Haart to come back and say they'd advised the seller to keep it on the market to see if they could do better than the asking price. It eventually went the same way as some others have mentioned (e.g. ziggy) with us being told we were bidding against another bidder... Thankfully we eventually backed out before we paid over the odds for the house in question. We eventually bought through Roy Brooks and, like Tommy, I can not recommend them more highly (from a purchaser's point of view). Very professional and 'by the book'. Kept us up to date constantly. I wasn't keen on any of the others we looked through including Bushells (everything was ?100k over budget), DVR (unprofessional), etc...
  9. We're planning on going on Saturday afternoon / evening! The Herne is our local and serves really good bitter anyway so looking forward to sampling a few more... 20 guest ales you say....?? It could be messy :)-D:)-D
  10. That's good to know about the beauty place Siduhe - I keep meaning to pop in for a price list. I might try on the way home this evening!
  11. Hi Sean For a small parade of shops I think it's really good - co-op for food, chemist, newsagents, launderette (no washing machine at the moment so it's a godsend!), post office, The Herne (does that count?!). The Co-Op is fine for basics and for very cheap nearly out of date veg (20p swede this weekend!) but it doesn't have the variety I need so we often go further up the road to the Turkish shop which sells everything. As MadWorld74 said the shops will most likely 'come up' as they say and maybe more eateries with the new development (anyone know what the progress is on that?). The new boys school (if and when it opens) may also have an impact?? So what's Si Mangia like - I've never eaten there and it usually looks fairly empty when I walk past....
  12. We went in January (tickets finally booked after 4 hours trying to get through by phone on the day the tickets were released...) and bumped into friends who had queued (on a Saturday) from 6am to get tickets - they were 3rd and 4th in the queue. I'm sure if you get up that early you'll end up falling asleep during the performance thought... :'(
  13. Thanks - tried the garden centre but no luck. Mum has already put air rifle on the Christmas present list for next year! >:D< I've hung the suet ball feeder off a hanging basket bracket attached to the side of the house but the tits haven't found it yet....
  14. There was no sign of the kingfisher in Peckham Rye Park on Sunday... Mum was none too impressed at me dragging her out in the cold to look for it after a boozy lunch at the Herne! :-$ As for birds in our garden, the count so far is two blackbirds (one male one female), blue tits, a robin, a jay, two collard doves and a partridge in a pear tree. The tree rats (aka grey squirrels) (6) have chewed through the seed feeder and keep knocking the peanuts off the tree so I've moved the fat balls and the poor birds are now totally confused... Anyone know where to buy a stake with hooks at the top so that we can hang the feeders where the squirrels can't get them?
  15. Ted Max Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Personally I go CPT > > Thanks. Think we might give EDT a whirl then this > weekend... > > No need to be rude, Knomester! Mmmm...I can see how that could be misconstrued! Maybe I should offer to try CPT next weekend???!
  16. Cheers Keef. Are they much of a muchness as far as atmosphere goes during games?
  17. Just wondering which pub in East Dulwich you would recommend for watching the Six Nations games - in particular the Ireland v Italy and England v Wales games tomorrow? EDT? Cheers :)-D
  18. When we moved house we had a huge clear out - I took the majority (6 or 7 binliners and some huge framed pictures) to the Oxfam on Half Moon Lane and the rest (electricals which Oxfam can't accept) to the Mind shop. If you pull into the side street to the left of Oxfam and then right into the little carpark at the back they will take your bags through the back entrance and you won't get clobbered for parking without a permit. They were extremely grateful for everything as were the people in the Mind shop. I used to work in Oxfam in my spare time when I was younger and the staff could buy items before they went out onto the shop floor but only after they had been priced up and the staff paid the full price. I don't see anything wrong with that as the money still goes to the charity... In reality, in the shop I worked in the staff bought very little before it went onto the shelves. It's not the same for clothes being sent overseas being taken by local staff as Gerry points out. I didn't realise that happened.
  19. I've only had veggie 'Sunday roasts' at The Bishop and The Herne so far and would recommend both. The Bishop's offering was veggie toad in the hole with the same roasties and veg as the meat Sunday roast and veggie gravy - I think it's nice to be able to eat the same veg etc rather than something totally different like mushroom risotto or wild mushroom pasta... I've only eaten at The Herne once (although it is my new local so will no doubt frequent it more now...) but the veggie option was good - a caramelised onion and lancashire cheese tart served with a rocket salad. Not quite so 'Sunday roast'-like but very good all the same.
