  1. My son had/has tongue tie but still managed to feed no problem. Six months on and no problems with it. I would avoid doing it if unnecessary, as it does hurt them, and it's enough to get through all the jabs! If at a later date problems develop then go for it as necessary. My son will need surgery for something else (diagnosed later)-I'm glad I didn't put him (and me) through another procedure (however minor and straightforward). Ultimately it is up to you though...
  2. I think Lloyd's on north cross road do them-maybe call first.
  3. Have to admit I was out walking the baby to sleep on Friday. He was almost there a few times, then a plane came along and I was back to square one. I'm used to the din I suppose, but when I go to my mums I do really enjoy the silence of where she lives. The planes are loud, but some are better at tuning out than others. It's not that pleasant having a constant din and I do think the situation is getting worse as I have no memories of planes waking my first...
  4. Loz you're a bit ignorant. My daughter is 9th centile in weight and I drive a very old fiesta. But legally required baby seats are large, and require the doors to be opened wide to get them in and out of the cars. With all those terrible parking skills out there it literally becomes impossible to get the Los in/out of the car in a regular bay if the neighbouring car has not parked properly. Ps we were all kids once and all had carers, so cut those that do the childminding some slack
  5. I cannot stand people that park in parent and child bays. It's just pure selfishness. I have 2 very small kids. The parking bays are not always free-I frequently wait 5/10 minutes for one. I'm terrified my lo will run out in front of a car while I'm in the car park as a driver just wouldn't see my toddler as she is very little. With two one has to come out of the car at a time. Drivers expect kids near the parent and child bays. It's also closer to the door reducing the risk of a child being hit as they have physically less distance to walk to the door. It's not merely a convenience to people with kids it's also a safety issue. Walking from the rear of the park is literally multiple road crossings. When I was 9 months pregnant I had no choice but to park in a ' normal' bay as all the parent and child bays were taken and I was in a rush. When I caMe out some considerate transit van driver had parked right up against the driver door (in my space). I asked them to call him over the tannoy, and still waited 20 mins for him to come out. I physically could not get me or my lo into the car owing to my size. Seriously, you don't know how stressful shopping with kids is-I hate it which is why I only go for essentials (have most groceries delivered). Do the decent thing and park on one of the hundreds of other normal spaces.
  6. Thanks everyone. Box located! :)
  7. My sister (who was 'done' with babies) is expecting her fourth baby. She has no mat or other gear so I'm hoping to ships load to her. Having been to sainsburys three times and currys and halfords with no success I'm getting desperate. Does anyone have a sturdy cardboard box they would be willing to part with? Say large enough to fit a disassembled cot in? If so pls let me know? I'm in Ed and will collect!
  8. We make home made pizza and bread. The dough is pretty much the same recipe, different quantities. The tomato sauce is blitzed tomatoes and herbs. We don't all do cheese owing to allergies, but the toppings are ham, mushrooms, and for my daughter sweet corn. Of you take a look at the ingredients on a loaf of bread now that's disgusting-there should only be about 4/5 ingredients. The bread bought in the shops (unless artisan) lasts way too long as it's full of junk. Pizza, and bread, cooked properly are not junk food. It's the convenience ones that are. If you want to call pizza posh cheese on toast, fine, it kind of is. But it's way more fun for kids. But junk? Only if you buy the greasy Pizza Hut/dominoes versions; but a cheese sandwich can equally be full of nasties. I'm not averse to the occasional take away; but I adore pizza and hate to hear it slagged off! Ps yes that cheeseburger pizza is revolting!
  9. Hi. We are considering Childcare options for when I go back to work after no2. I have a three year old also. The cost of nursery for two is eye watering, so I'm wondering if a live in nanny is comparable cost-wise. Does anyone have any experiences of a live in nanny? If so, how did you find it? Re costs, is it similar to a nanny share or much more? Our situation is complicated by the fact that my son may need surgery (possibly two) so I might need someone at home with him while he recovers from it (I would be there for a few weeks but wouldn't want him with other kids until he is well and truly healed). Any advice would be gratefully received!
  10. Hi. I don't know where you need the visa for but I would also try getting on the phone/ turning up and begging for your sons visa -explaining that otherwise he will need to be left behind and you are desperate for that not to happen. If the person you speak to can't help ask them who you can speak to. You may just get lucky and encounter a human being that will help you out. I always try this in these types of circumstances and people will often help if they can. I would be panicked if it was me on your situation as I know my husband would struggle-meaning there would be lots of tears on baby's part. I'm sure you will find a good nanny to take the pressure off, but don't give up on bringing little one just yet...
  11. I'm in a hotel at the mo and there is an indoor rabbit. I noticed the smell before seeing it, and the hotel is otherwise very clean so reckon they do pong a bit!
  12. Nutramigen is dairy free too. But there's a scale of how far removed from cows milk protein the formulas are (and they get pricier and more revolting too). So aptamil pepti, then nutramigen, then neocate. Aptamil pepti tastes better but protein not completely broken down so baby might still react and so on...
  13. Jenny I'm on my second child with dietary issues and it's unbelievable how sensitive this one is to certain foods. I am breast feeding but avoiding dairy and soya (as well as onions, tomatoes and citrus) and traces thereof. If I have any it's screaming in pain baby-like yesterday we went for lunch and I requested no dairy. I took one bite of my veg and to my horror realised there was butter in it. I went ballistic with the waiter and he was massively apologetic and didn't actually charge me, but I knew we would be in trouble. Sure enough baby absolutely screamed in pain for about an hour and a half and was inconsolable. He is fine now, and it took a lot of diet tweaking on my part as he is so damn sensitive, but he literally doesn't cry at all otherwise. Previously I have ended up at the doctors at midnight with worry over the pain he has evidently been in-what was suggested? Infacol-which has no proven clinical benefit. GPs are not clued up re dietary issues. If I was you I would ask for a referral to a paediatrician and ask for the referral to be expedited. Get a script for neocate and try your baby on it-if there is no change then I can't suggest anything else, but if it is the dairy you will see the transformation very quickly. I don't believe in 'colic'-I don't think they scream for no reason, and I don't believe in 'very windy baby'-again I think there is something going into them their bodies just can't handle yet. I don't think any baby or parent should have to endure and suffer through a baby in pain-it's so so stressful and newborns are enough to cope with without that on top. I really hope you get it sorted. Best of luck. Xx
  14. Just re omeprazole, ideally it should be given as a whole tablet as it works so fast. So, the sooner you get it into your baby the better. Also you are right re halving the tablet making it less effective-I was told this by a pharmaceutics expert that worked on omeprazole (don't ask)! Also, don't put too much faith in the gp checking the dose. They forgot to adjust it for me-unfortunately it's for you to have baby weighed just before seeing the gp and asking them to check the dose is correct for baby's weight-this takes time and owing to time pressures some gps don't automatically do this. Did the gp check baby's weight and do this? Also as it's an unlicensed medication I have found they prefer to follow the dose prescribed by a specialist if possible. I don't want to upset anyone (any gps!) posting this but a baby in pain is the worst thing, especially your own so just want to make sure bases are covered.
  15. Hi Bluedark Has the dose you are giving your baby been upped at all? It's supposed to correspond with babies weight so worth checking the dose yourself and speaking to your gp if not. Apparently reflux peaks at 4 months so it may be the reason baby is slightly worse. You are better off with tablets to the liquid as the liquid is hard to get hold of and I thought it tasted much worse than tablets dissolved in water. If you express you could try adding carobel to the bottle-it makes the milk heavier and so harder for it to reflux. I hope it is as simple as upping the dose and baby gets sorted soon (also keep an eye on this going forward-I was surprised the docs didn't do this automatically for me). X
  16. Thanks for the tips-will have to make some room into freezer, and get cleaning and airing! I should be doing it myself now anyway. So gross, have the pheromone traps in and will go empty the Hoover.thanks again.
  17. So baby being most four months I started organising my wardrobe, only to find several items (including my three best suit trousers) full of holes :( does anyone have any suggestions for treatments that work bearing in mind a limited budget and baby in the house (that will be crawling on Carpets in a few months)? I have found eggs (eww) on the carpet under a basket the cleaner clearly hasn't been moving, but the carpet hasn't been chomped. I also have not seen any live critters recently (although I remember seeing them a long time ago- maybe last year... It grosses me out especially as I have a mild fear of moths. Pls help!
  18. Yes I think he's too young depending on his personality. We looked after my aunts goldfish as kids when she went on holiday. Walked into the room as my 2 year old bro walked out-fish was on the sideboard flapping about. He survived that but not my aunts kid sharing her Rice Krispies as she didn't think the flakes tasted good...
  19. Mine is in nursery since she was 1. Agree with above-there is no perfect solution. Also agree one to one before they are two is better. My daughter was also constantly ill from when she started nursery (but was rarely ill before)-this put me under enormous pressure with the time I needed to take off from work to care for her. On the other hand, mine learnt to eat from copying peers at nursery- she was a disaster before that so definitely a plus. Also, I'm not a trusting person so was more comfortable with a group of people watching my daughter as I thought this would reduce the risk of anyone being mean to her (I had had a bad experience with a babysitter I overheard treating my daughter in a mean way over the baby monitor in the next room). So, not much help but my best advice is do your homework, see the nurserys and interview nannies and childminders and go with your gut-you have to be comfortable with your choice. Good luck. X
  20. Thanks for this. My first never stayed in it she was so slim. I reckon no2 will be ok without the belt but for peace of mind better to be safe...
  21. Hi. Yep you should be fine with a cellular even if they manage to hide themselves under it. The radiator we have is pretty silent- I'm a terrible sleeper and it doesn't wake me.i think it was about ?100 from john Lewis-it's a dimpled Eco one.
  22. I put a small cellular blanket folded in two over mine in a 2.5 tog. I don't like his little hands turning to ice. If you think he's getting cold you are probably right. Another option is a plug in radiator for his room. I got one you can set the temp on so you know they won't get too hot or too cold (maybe in the sales which will start imminently)?
  23. the police wont update you - a man was attacked outside my home and they wouldnt tell me how he was doing for data protection reasons.
  24. The whole thing is bizarre. I made an extra effort to go also (no joke with a 6 week old and a toddler). Raced around didn't find her and left. Felt like a bit of a mug though-as someone else said, if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is. Wouldn't put me off peekAbo sales, just ridiculously priced forumites sales (you'll probably get gazumped without notice)!
  25. This is all very new to me- thought the thread was a wind up to begin with but am a bit shocked to discover its not! Would be far too queasy to contemplate participating and the main off putting factor is what the placenta is- it comes from half of the fertilised egg and is genetically identical to your baby to begin with. It just so happens that half becomes placenta and not baby. I'm totally weirded out at the thought of eating something that could have become my baby but chance dictated it to be placenta. I'm a bit of a funny fish that way though (won't do kidneys cos they are essentially filters and that grosses me out)! I imagine eating it raw (preferably while still at its freshest ie warm) can only be good for you (haven't read the literature) but I'm not sure id want/be comfortable with sending it off to be processed by an unregulated industry- human blood is too dodgy not to be 100% confident that what you get back is not 100% your own uncontaminated placenta. Hats off to any woman with the stomach to chow down but wouldn't be for me!
