  1. That's what the foreman from Thames Water said. It was on the scale of the Herne Hill burst water main and affected local housing. singalto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > 2 weeks???
  2. Camberwell New Rd outside the Sacred Heart Secondary completely closed due to burst water main. Will be closed for 2 weeks. Diversion in place not so bad going North but dreadful going South.
  3. How can I add a photo from an iPhone? File is too large and I can't seem to figure out how to make smaller.
  4. How terrifying for the boys. I hope they recover speedily. I'm so glad you posted this as my youngest is just getting out and about. We've warned him about this but having a local example has driven home our messages. I am preventing him from taking his phone with him when hanging out but am thinking about buying him a very, very cheap pay as you go handset to take with him on these occasions (better to hand up something rather than have these thieves think he's holding back). What do others think?
  5. Walked out of my door this morning to find filming at Julian Stair's pottery studio on Hindmans Road. Crew told me it was a shoot for a Christmas advert. Didn't ask which one as was hurrying to work. Anyone know?
  6. Feel a bit sorry for M&S this morning. Someone (guessing Environmental Health) monitoring sound of truck unloading. With the planes flying overhead, buses, a busy LL and another lorry screeching down the lane, I found the M&S truck unloading the quietest thing there. And, they always say hi and are very polite as I pass every morning.
  7. I hear they've apprehended 2 suspects - a Mr Marks and a Mr Spencer
  8. Charity shops have business rate tax exemption, add to that gift aid and a charity is already doing quite well. Charities also attract other tax exemptions which may (although I don't know for sure)cover some of the costs of refurbishments etc. I seem to remember that St Christopher's pay a reduced rent for their store, I don't know if it's the same for ML&G. Charity shops have other benefits for charities in promoting brand etc. I can not imagine many charity boards would support activities that are losing money. i*Rate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > jo1973, > > Keep up your good work as a volunteer; the shop is > an asset to Lordship Lane and there is a great > range of designer clothes there. > Unfortunately, after emailing the management of > the chain of shops about how much money was spent > on them, I cannot see how there is any profit left > for Save the Children at the end of the day, > unless your shopfitters are volunteers too? 9. Should have thought of asking you Curmudgeon ;-)
  10. Thank you for taking the time to respond to the cynics! Was getting fed up with the charity bashing on here. jo1973 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi there, > > I'm a volunteer at the shop you're discussing: > Mary's Living and Giving on Lordship Lane. 11. Also looking for suggestions. Need a 6 Form with strong sciences.
  12. Oh, Midivydale - your dad sounds wonderful. My family were pretty much a "suck it up" type of family and I sometimes find myself doing this with my own children. Both my children attended their first residential trip around 10-11 and both were terribly homesick. In both instances, no calls home were allowed but one wrote a desperate letter that broke my heart and caused me to ring the teacher in charge. Advice from school was to let them get through it on their own but I found that very hard. Oldest was scarred by the incident but did go on one more trip at age 13 but vowed to go on no more (possibly to the detriment of his education). I don't think there is a one size fits all response as it is dependent on the child but my instinct would be to see how he gets on today and then suggest if he really does feel he wants to come home the following day, to allow him to do that. midivydale Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Can you go and visit him (if you have another > teary call?). 13. I've donated at this shop and got an email telling me my clothes sold for well over ?100. There were a few designer tops and the rest Cos.
  14. Usually use Airports Direct but tried Madon & Green this time. Love them both and think they're comparable.
  15. As a mother of a son who goes through the knees in every brand imaginable - buy several and if your son is a bit of a grower like my youngest, from somewhere you can buy easily!
  16. Oh for heaven's sake James Barber - I bet had they made it 24/7 you would have complained - if they spent a huge slice of Council budget on additional facilities you would have complained. This is a great opportunity to Southwark Residents and my family had already been benefiting when this was introduced to young people a year or so ago, along with over 60s. The only thing that worries me is that these are the days I go and they are already very busy (with the young people and over 60s mentioned above) but it's something I'll have to plan around. This is a fantastic attempt at getting people back on the road to fitness. Well done Southwark. 17. Has anyone had their Aussie passport photos done in ED? The requirements are different to British passports. We've previously used Shot by the Sherrif but they've sadly gone. Thanks for any suggestions.
  18. How do we sign up and whose issuing the arms?!
  19. Many GP practices have Paediatric specialist GPs but where it becomes difficult is that they don't only see paediatric cases so appointments are managed as rest of appointments. The Health Service needs a bloody good shake up - bits of Australian, French and US system. I'm so sorry the OP is finding the current Health Service unresponsive to their need. I'm afraid I don't have any details of Private Paed Specialist but I would suggest having a look at a website like BUPA who have a directory of private providers. i hope you find what you're looking for.
  20. I hope the guard is ok. These small supermarkets are always going to struggle with shoplifting- aisles too close together, piled high etc.
  21. Had really wanted this place to be successful but the lack of fresh cooked food meant it struggled. We had a lovely evening there once, fabulous music, attentive staff, great wine ... Left down by re-heated packet food they sold in the shop.
