  1. I've been through the same, not with suspected autism but suspected ADHD. I completely understand how you are feeling. The way I approached it was to be very open with the specialist staff and clinicians, not defensive but also questioning. A diagnosis is not a sentence, it can be a very positive thing and it can help you, family and school understand your child as an individual. It was eventually decided my son didn't have ADHD but after some occupational therapy, was diagnosed with a sensory processing problem and a little later dyslexia. All the very best.
  2. We've been registered patients of this practice for over 15 years. I'd love to understand why there's been such a significant drop in ratings on the practice. What's changed - less staff, increase in number of registered patients without equal increase of doctors, changes in administrative arrangements, increase in patients with long term conditions or at high risk, increased pressure on services or finances due to government changes or any other factors. Improvement is not possible unless the cause is understood.
  3. I hate to publicise this as its already quite a busy event but Dulwich Sports Club is brilliant. It's being held on Sat night.
  4. Very sad that some are forced to be this desperate.
  5. I think it's personal to your family dynamics and changes with age of children. If you can afford a cleaner, all the better.
  6. Ours also marked this week. I think it may be down to training new staff and trying to get it right after complaints. I have no problem as I've had occasional probs trying to find my own unmarked bins.
  7. Are all the changes Southwark backed or are some of them TfL/London Mayoral changes. I get confused - for instance many changes at Oval and Elephant are TfL.
  8. Last week there were builder vans (2 or 3) on the footpath plus a delivery of bricks. Very dangerous for pedestrians. The footpaths are very steadily being destroyed - will the developers be charged for this? I certainly hope so they're going to make a killing out of these properties.
  9. London Zoo? Science, British or Natural History Museum? Long walk down South Bank ending at Gabriel's Wharf for food?
  10. Lego, books - too many to list but Andy Griffiths popular in our house. Art equipment also very popular with mine.
  11. Get over it. London has the highest rated state secondary schools in the country. You're in luck.
  12. It has to go but is a loss of recent social history. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > East Dulwich Police Station was designed to be > Bomb Proof. > Hence the buttress narrow windows. > > Foxy
  13. Well done guys! Fabulous effort for a great charity #raiseacup for Macmiilan's 25th anniversary of Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning aiming for over ?25 million this year.
  14. Some schools may have them but my son's feedback is that groups of kids often hang out on them and therefore those looking for a buddy have nowhere to go.
  15. In response to Saffron - not special prep but descaling etc so they're in top condition prior to braces. I think what shocked me was hitting over the ?50 mark. I last paid around ?45 (I think) less than 6 months ago. We go to Townley Rd. Now that NHS dentists do not descale (apparently due to contract changes) and now recommend hygienists for children as young as 8, this could get pretty expensive for many families.
  16. In preparation for braces, teenage son has been to the hygienist. He had a half hour appointment and it cost just over ?50! Is that normal? I tend to go once or twice a year but have never paid that much.
  17. As a parent of a very strong willed 14 year old (and younger brother following suit) I'd like to reassure but I think it's more about finding less confronting strategies. My 14 year old was exactly the same at that age. Be firm, if sanctions don't work, don't try them. I just used to very calmly walk away and say I wS going and that I was expecting him to follow and then retreat. Never go back and wait until he followed. It never took too long. He was testing me, so I tested him. Right or wrong, it worked. With my oldest I've always had the view that he's difficult to parent but will probably be quite successful as an adult :-)
  18. Still a year off from facing this but want to get a head start. Has anyone had experience of localish (mixed) 6th form strong in the sciences (in particular chemistry, physics, biology)?
  19. It's difficult - we had a problem with noise and inconsiderate builders (blighted our garden last summer) by the works of one of our neighbours. They were off site and didn't know that their builders were causing problems. Have subsequently met our neighbours and mentioned it and they said they wished we been able to tell them earlier. The builders they'd employed were Cowboys and they've now spent much more money sorting out the poor work - had we managed to let them know of our issues with them earlier they would have definitely had a word. I truly hope you can find a way to resolve.
  20. There was plenty of publicity about the changes which was bought in by the previous Coalition Govt https://www.gov.uk/government/news/biggest-change-to-voter-registration-in-a-generation. We ignored the first letter thinking it was the same opt out letter we received every 3-4 (or is it 2) years. On receiving the second one I took the time to read it and found that if we didn't text or email to opt in, we would be removed from electoral register.
  21. Intexasatthe moment I'm sorry to hear of the terrible experience both you and your mother experienced but this is about the ED site and not Peckham. Each school has a head who is reasonably independent of the Federation (hence the name). I so wish the ED school would book the Rye but I think they should be applauded for their sensitivity to local opinion. My son enjoys his life at Harris ED and that's what matters to me (and his brother who will join him next year). I'm no fan of Mr Harris but give the school and its pupils a chance. intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oh James you're scraping the barrel if you're > citing this as evidence of Harris's sensitivity ! > > > When my 90 odd year old mother had continuing > problems with boys climbing into her backgarden to > retrieve the footballs that had wrecked her > plants, the superhead at the Peckham Academy > wouldn't even walk across the playground to see > the situation for herself .She was " too busy to > leave the premises " . 22. We recently bought a weighing hook from Sainsburys and couldn't get it to work. V frustrating. Ended up resorting to our old method of bathroom scales.
  23. Ice skating in Streatham, cinema, Horniman (although likely to be heaving). Dreadful weather, isn't it
  24. Sweaters only avail from the school directly.
  25. Perhaps due to the price? wellington Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The postman is correct. I live locally and > regularly see the owners.
