  1. Been using Zipcar for 10 months now. I no longer have a car left in our street and walk/bus short distances thereby causing less pollution. I can understand that those living in very crowded streets may find it a pain if parking is taken up by these cars but hopefully as take-up of Zipcar increases, there should be less cars on the road. I do have a quibble though, the bay on the corner of Barry and Underhill is poorly marked and as a result, there is often a non-Zipcar parked there. Needs re-marking.
  2. It's our local and love Jade products. They're amazing. From the sounds of posts above we'll still get our great Jade products but with different owners.
  3. Love F&B for the colours like you. My experience is that whatever you use, with kids be prepared to re-paint every couple of years so if you think there'll be wear and tear, it doesn't really matter what you use so prob best to go cheepish.
  4. My thoughts with you - sleep deprivation is a terrible thing. Although it's school holidays, the School's headteacher, Alex Crossman, may be checking his emails. I would suggest sending him an email. He's a great guy and cares very much about the community in which the new school will be situated. Hope you catch up on your sleep. apmuso Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi James - as you know from previous > correspondence, we back on to the site of the new > health centre/school behind Melbourne Grove. 5. One of my children started there this year. Whether it's good or not is difficult to judge at this stage. I have a high level of respect for the head teacher and the teaching staff but there are restrictions on their temporary site. I have issues with the current curriculum but none of those relate to the school. The teachers are very engaged and focused on the child. As the first year group, of it was any different I'd be surprised but I have confidence that this approach will continue. cordsm Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does anyone have any views on the new ED Charter > school. 6. They may find it useful to talk to their childcare provider about how he interacts and responds to others at nursery. Before getting help, I would suggest they play detective a little to see if there's certain situations, individuals or events, foods that trigger behaviours. These are all things that a good therapist should ask so if they have these answers, it would allow them to drill into the issues quickly. Good luck.
  7. A friend with a similar issue had a fire curtain installed in their open plan area (boxed in so not obvious)
  8. Is this referring to a new incident or the stabbing victim who drove into police cordon on Sunday (who may or may have been stabbed in ED)? Dreadful stuff!
  9. LL is closed and buses stationary from North X to after Harris Primary School. Not sure of the details but there's been an accident. Hope no one is too seriously injured.
  10. As uncleglen says, has happened before which is why I no longer have anything but my wheelie bins outside. It's all very sad as I love having window boxes and pot plants but I've lost enough money on this and don't want to again. uncleglen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > there was a spate of this about 10 or so years ago > then after that nobody put stuff outside- then you > all started decorating your front areas and lo and > behold the thieves are back.
  11. Hi msmoppet, what year will your son being joining? In year entrance to schools in all but Yr 7 are often possible. Other local mixed gender schools in the area are Kingsdale (lottery entry) and Charter East Dulwich (Yr 7 so far, additional year joining in September 2017) and I'm sure others my be able to add to this list. What time of year are you planning your move?
  12. Ah, the seasonal plane noise thread - people often believe plane noise is louder around this time of year as people often have their windows open. Another reason they may be slightly lower at the moment is because of the low cloud cover we have. I invested in a white noise machine to use at night and never get woken up even when window is wide open.
  13. Going in Dartford direction may be Dartford Grammar. In the other direction I know kids who travel that way and go to the Oratory, Pimlico Academy and many more. Alleyn's has 4 stars but children would be going the opposite direction.
  14. Thanks for posting L&W. My youngest son and I went past this moments after it happened and have been wondering how he was ever since. Poor guy - so glad to hear he's ok. 15. Hi Belle, I'm the mum of two boys who are already in secondary school. I'm interested in the debate about co-ed vs single sex as we have done both. Our first son is in single sex school and it has suited him. He's focused on his studies without worrying about girlfriends etc and has done incredibly well. He'll go to co-ed for 6th form and we hope he'll enjoy this new environment. We chose mixed for the second one as he has a completely different personality and co-ed was a better fit for him. 16. Bloody frightening. I'm so glad to hear that you have survived this heinous attack and thank you so much for such an articulate recount of what has happened. A very brave man. Please don't over think what could have been and focus on your strengths of character, which is very evident.
  17. Just had a very lovely night lunch in Bonne Bouffe. Great food and charming staff.
  18. Menu also in the window of the restaurant- just in time for grand opening tomorrow night!
  19. The tests were done on B1 and B5 I think and there has been some evidence (I'm not sure how rigorous that is) that when sweating, and with sufficient doses over a period of time beforehand, mossies are less attracted. I would never, ever advocate doing this on its own, especially in an area where there is a risk of mosquito born disease, but I basically through everything scientific or non-scientific at myself and didn't manage to get bitten once (even when sitting near a lake in early morning). I would second yeknomyeknom's comment about buying local! treehugger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > EDmummy do you mean vitamin B12 rather than > Vitamin B?
  20. I imagine because of his big, fluffy hooded jacket. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > JohnL Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > This guy stood out like a sore thumb to be > honest. > > How?
  21. Prior to going to East Africa I tried pretty much every type of anecdotal precaution along with products suggested on an East African travel site. I took Vitamin B pills for 3 months prior and whilst I was there; I ate a lot of vegemite (and took some with me) plus used any mosquito repellent containing Deet (eg., Ultramarathon). A product that doesn't use Deet is Icognito. I'd also suggest taking a sewing kit to sew up any holes in Mosquito nets and if possible, burn local coils in her room or when sitting outside in the evening and morning. If she is not sure whether there will be mosquito nets, take one with you. And remember, mosquitos are really only a problem when near bodies of water. If she's going to the Serengeti or Ngorongoro, they are not as much of a problem. I hope she has a wonderful time! It's an amazing place.
  22. Also consider how secure your partner's job is. What would be the effect of your partner losing their job? I went part-time for over 10 years (keeping up training) and now kids are teenagers, have gone back full-time (with flexible terms). Because of the industry I work in I could never have left it completely to return later (technology) and have a great employer (although a little stuck with same employer).
  23. How horrifying for you. I hope you're ok! What time of night did this happen? Was this top end of CP Rd? Horrible human being!!
  24. Ours is a Howdens. Wanted white gloss with no handles and like what they had. Have customised it with a beautiful African red wood and stainless steal worktop. Accessorised with Moroccan tiles. Love it and doesn't look like a bog standard kitchen.
  25. Hi lilolil, my son and walked past this bike on Hindmans this morning at 7:15am but hadn't realised it was stolen. I'm sorry I didn't ring the police. We were rushing to catch the bus and then when on the bus, I clean forgot! Unfortunately, it was more than a few houses away from ours so we didn't hear or see anything and do not have CCTV. I'm so sorry to hear your son has lost some work tools but glad he got his bike back.
