  1. I always have a problem getting through to the Gardens. If their phone system could just operate a queuing system, so you don't have to keep re-dialling because you've got the engaged tone, then that would be a massive improvement. Am gearing myself up to try and make an appointment for my son tomorrow and I have to plan my morning around it. Like get up earlier to make allowances for the 15-20 minutes it usually takes to get an appointment. Its not a good system.
  2. Definitely name and shame! I know not everyone shares my pov, but I can't be doing with this sort of underhandedness (?), underhandability(?), underhanderosity(?).
  3. I do find the co-op dismal, tis true. I was actually quite fond of our old Somerfield (possibly looking through rose-tinted specs here) but I cannot entertain the argument that we need a Waitrose or M&S - for the post 6.30pm commuters -on Lordship Lane. Why can you not buy your ready meals at London Bridge or Victoria or wherever else you commute home from before you get on the bus/train? Anything else you need in an emergency is still available on LL, or at Tesco Express near Goose Green, or Sainsburys Local on LL or, indeed, Val's, who has an enormous variety of good quality stock.

  5. Have a guess :))
  6. He exceeds the very low expectations we have of footballers in general. ?
  7. I still vote no but, honestly, the Co-Op was just dire at 6pm this evening. I reckon 50% of the fresh food shelf space was empty. No tomatoes, no bananas, no dried pasta apart from lasagne or spaghetti, about 10 loaves of bread all white sliced, no bagels, no pitta bread, only one real choice of bagged salad. And it was freezing cold in there with both sets of doors open. It was awful, dingy and miserable.
  8. If they were that shite they wouldn't survive on LL.
  9. I bloody love Waitrose but voted against because I want Lordship Lane to remain largely independent. I can get my Waitrose food by shopping online or driving 15 minutes to Beckenham. Sorry to hear that Val's is closing.
  10. No thank you very much. It will definitely send commercial rents even higher to the detriment of the largely independent feel of LL.
  11. I don't think I have the actual flu (because I am out of bed) but I feel about as ill as I ever have before. Including sore throat, searing head pain, shivering although well wrapped up, and coughing up unspeakable phlegm. My 7 year old son is the same. I have been ill since 11th December, with a few days respite over last weekend.
  12. It does seem exceptionally ghoulish to take such an interest in the probable death of a little girl.
  13. Believe it happened last weekend. Or maybe even the weekend before.
  14. I speak as a Goodrich parent who loves the school - but surely this is a no-brainer? If Fairlawn was your first choice, then go for Fairlawn. There will be another family for whom Goodrich was their first choice who will be made VERY happy by the space left by your son.
  15. Bizarre question. What's that all about then?

  17. I moved here in 1996 and am certain that the black-fronted shop with the long lace net curtains was there on North Cross Road even then.
  18. I was 18 and off sick from 6th form college. I had cold/fluey thing and was lolling on the sofa. Heard it on Radio 2, more or less as it happened. I was a huge John Lennon fan and it affected me greatly. I remember the announcement of his death and John Peel's with great sorrow. Also know exactly where I was and what I was doing at announcement of death of Diana and Elvis, but those were more because they were of historical importance.
  19. Can't say I like the look of the new gates, but am very pleased that access to the cemetery is now possible again on the corner of Langton Rise and Wood Vale.
  20. We are going to Cinderella at Greenwich Theatre.

  22. Have sent you a pm Rosie.
  23. What is her advice going to be? Delegate, get organised, get childcare, don't forget your me-time (sorry for using that phrase but you know). I would be embarrassed if I couldn't think of ways to juggle family life and work all by myself without having to ask someone via Blackberry Messenger. The difficulty lies in actually achieving it all. Look, I know I sound negative but its nothing personal against Laura Tenison. Am just strangely wound up by it!
  24. Whoever was being sarky (or not) it seems to me hugely presumptious that this woman thinks people are interested in her tips/opinions on the now very well-worn topic of juggling family and work. Note, only "busy working mums", and only via Blackberry Messenger. For heaven's sake. Women have done it for years before her and will no doubt do so years into the future.
  25. My marigold rubber gloves, flock lined, medium.
