East Dulwich IS Keane... Used to have a drug problem but now doing really well at John Lewis.
-
And I just detect some harmless fun on this one. Although clearly the Keane comparison rankles Sean...!

Quizteam Aguillera....that's a funny post. And by far the best forum name since We-all-adora-Marmora. Hiiiigh fiiiives.

Biff! I like the sound of this one. And have given myself the week off. So I may put in a second appearance. If I can keep away from that camera. I've had a thing about camera's ever since Cosmopolitan made me look like a mutated version of Mark Ronson in one of those "What boys really think about your breasts" style stories.

The exterior showed no shame whatsover. It was brilliant. It made me want to put on a cowboy hat and jump up on the roof. And then stand really still to see if anyone noticed.

Adventure bar - East Dulwich (Lounged when no longer about same)
MrBen replied to James's topic in The Lounge
I like the sound of all the girls there actually although now that's been broadcast here I expect Friday night to be an testosterone- fest. Biggest disappointment is reading about Aced Out's Mojito given the thread back in April which asked Adventure "Are you going to serve the worst Mojito in South London?". Yes. -

EAST DULWICH FORUMITES GIVE LUKE WARM RESPONSE TO CLAPHAM COCKTAIL BAR SHOCKER. Right, well I didn't go because I worked late but driving past I saw Sean MacGhabhann (looking dapper but slight worse for wear given supposedly weak cocktails)and Whistling Man both out in force. Both surely vying for the title of The Most Ubiquitous Man in East Dulwich. Ubiquitous: adj. "existing or being everywhere, esp. at the same time; omnipresent" -
Oh dear. Just been done myself. $1000 Candadian dollars taken from my Lloyds TSB debit card in Quebec yesterday. Was in Canada 6 weeks back but only used it a few times and never at an ATM. Now have to fill in a load of forms to get it back. But the banks must be getting stung. And someone doing this 5 times a day is getting very rich.

And to the first person who says that the police station is not residential - I beg to differ having lived there for 1 night back in 2003. -
The ugliest 21st Century residential building in East Dulwich
MrBen replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Brendan - Should not to be confused with "affordable" housing schemes. Not sure anything is that affordable these days! My point is only that it has created more housing in ED for the younger crowd. The alternative would have been to develop the existing house for private sale to 1 (reasonably well off judging by current prices) family.... -
The ugliest 21st Century residential building in East Dulwich

Er right...point of correction for you all. The non descript block opposite the CPT was actually designed by a respected architect who was constrained in design by planning regulations but whose brief was to provide a number of comfortable, smaller energy efficent flats for singetons (for whom there is a shortage of housing apparently). It did take a while to finish but was ready for occupation in early July this year and now all but one of the flats have been let (after 6 weeks). And SeanMLow I know you are in the trade but even your valuations of ?1900 pcm for a 2 bed are way off. And they are all 1 beds (bar one) and letting for around ?900-ish so get your facts right. Agents ! grrr... Agree its a bit bland but it has made a lot more housing available on that plot to those who don't own a place. And its full of single people for anyone looking to pull. And surely the police station is the worst 21st building! MrBen -
Is it Me? or is East Dulwich boring now?
MrBen replied to mattindulwich18's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
SeanyMac, I am finding it more boring now too. Although I cant put my finger on it. The weekends used to be a bit more kicking on the strip. Matt's argument is simply around it being less "edgy and arty", both characteristics which evaporate with gentrification. Inside 72, whilst not Matts preferred drinking establishment (I'm guessing) was more "arty and edgy" than the Bishop will ever be. And I mention it's loss as a prime example of a new demographic. I still love East Dulwich. But it is increasingly less diverse, commercially and demographically. -

Going against the grain here. But I think Matt has a point. Although the degree of change in past 18 months is pushing it! But certain places that I loved for having "soul" have been replaced with "soulless". And, like the hippie dude I met on Haad Rin beach back in' 98 who complained it had got "too commerical man". It was always better back in 1985. When they had no roads. Or posh gap year kids. And Cholera. East Dulwich kind of the same. Kind of. I hugely miss Inside 72 which was a one-of-a-kind a bar that showed independence and character - even if it was a squash. I'm suprised how much I miss it. It's replacement with a chain from Clapham/Balham represents a blandness that leaves me cold. Like the food I got at Kings when my appendix burst. Not as socially diverse as it once was. And a lot less flaking paint. -
Travis and Alicia Keys?? Singapore here I come!!!

"A fair and regulated property market for the benefit of all" - smells commie to me. Nothing wrong with having a communist view but to be honest communism didn't work. And I don't think property is any more "fair" or "unfair" than any other market. Regulate property as a market and where do you stop? What about regulating City bonuses? Credit derivative trading? Taxing investment banks or private equity deals at a massive rate? When it comes to property, we get emotional because of the concept of home, shelter etc. But remove that emotion and property is just another speculative market in a capitalist economy.

Michael Palaeologus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does the tiny Hobbit have hairy tiny feet and does > she eat a second breakfast as is traditional > amongst her folk? Michael, the Hobbit child's big toes are not in the least bit hairy which is unusual I agree. And for breakfast it's eggs. Hard eggs. The Hobbit is apparently bringing another blonde Hobbit. A welsh one. Hooray for Hobbits!

Despite it's small size, the Canadian Hobbit drinks beer by the pint glass. It also has tiny feet the size of my palm. Good luck.

Yo. Yes Yo. You crazy forum kids. There will be two very nice new people tentatively coming along tonight. Both female. One is blonde, Canadian and the height of a small hobbit. The other is her lovely new friend (whom I have not met yet). The chance of turning up with two young ladies is not one I'd usually turn down lightly but I may have to this evening. Anyway, having been along once I have said you will all make them both feel welcome!

There's a bit left in the carton if you want it. At the bottom of Sylvester Road. The salad comes separately now in a tin foil box. And its 100% pure lamb now. And the chilli sauce in a little carton. According to the owner they are going down a storm with the chattering classes. They are delicious.

The current climate has made me feel a bit poorer for various reasons. But I've not really altered my spending habits as a result. Food is supposed to be 10% more expensive. Why have eggs gone up by 37%? If they are free range then its not the bttery farm lighting and fuel to transport them is not quite 37% more expensive....yet. I'm more interested in the behaviour in this climate by age i.e. how those who have seen 3 recessions before (I'm guessing Macroban) behave vs those of us who have only known the good times i.e. under 32 years of age. Or home owners versus non home owners goven property makes most of us feel "rich" or "poor". That's a good angle Paul, that would be more useful from a marketing perspective. And I think you might get a different response. Do you become more risk averse with age having lived through at least 1 recession? Or do you take the contrarian view and see it as opportunity? I take the Standard headlines with a pinch of salt - I can see with my own eyes whats happening (and yes its not great but IMO not as bad yet either). Annoying how all these "post"casters have popped up telling us the economy is bad when they didnt have the guts stick their neck out to say it would all end so suddenly in a few months. What goes up must come down. Before coming up again after some pain. The economy is cyclical. Is that really news? Are we really suprised? Anyway... expensive eggs? Why?

*Bob* = genius Keef And I dont care what you all say. Louisa. The wee irish bloke that wears black jeans all the time. And the force that is SNORKY. I'm eating a shwarma kebab from that posh kebab shop. Its fucking delicious. I may regret this post tomorrow. Great to be back in the UK.

Well I won't win any prizes from my mates for arriving saturday and leaving Sunday this year but I had a great time. Trains were empty Saturday and luxurious first class was only a tenner more. Shuttle straight to the site - and bone dry! Not a hint of mud. The papers made a lot about a some shower on Thursday night but it was nothing. And for me a genius result as my Buddy Guy Is God banner was all over BBC4 - the cameras loved it. And Buddy put in a fine performance! He truely is god! Check it out at: Buddy Guy at Glastonbury -BBC4

I have decided to go last minute. As of yesterday when I saw the weather. And HMV were practically giving tickets away. It will be the shortest one ever but I can't wait to see my all time blues hero Buddy Guy tomorrow night. If anyone can record BBC 4 at 22.30 on Sat night please let me know. As you'll see me in a muddy field with my banner "Buddy Guy Is God". Slightly blasphemous. But appropriate for the greatest electric blues player in the world. The man who Hendrix learned from. Total Genius. I cannot wait! Buddy Guy In Houston
