  1. A retro arcade /bar has just opened in Peckham - Four Quarters
  2. Found a picture online: Sure it closed more than 5-6 years ago.
  3. Didn't Bruno's used to be a gun shop?
  4. 5 years - can't believe it's been that long. Now Gails
  5. I do admire the staff who have taken this action. As someone stated above, it's not an easy thing to do, especially when you're on a low wage. But, Picturehouse do pay some of the highest wages of any of the cinema chains. They are probably one of the fairer employers in a not very fair sector. That's not exactly a compliment, but why is everyone going after one of the better chains to highlight a sector wide issue (I understand why the staff are, but the cause celebre)? More generally, on the LLW - whilst it is outrageous that hard working people can no longer afford to live in London and have to be subsidised by the state - simply increasing some minimum wages alone will not fix it. Fundamentally housing and inequality are the issues. There is a lot more that could be done on both of these issues which would have more impact than paying Ritzy staff LLW. It's always going to be difficult to convince individual employers to pay more than their competitors, it has to be a sector wide, mandated intervention. Specifically in relation to the Ritzy (and I stand to be corrected on this), haven't they agreed to pay the equivalent of the LLW subject to staff meeting service standards? Not saying that's great, but it talks to the first point above.
  6. @ James Barber - James, I think you may have said before that Waitrose have previously showed some interest in leasing the building as is? Any idea what happened, or why the lease holder wasn't interested? Apologies if this wasn't you, I can't really remember the details now, hence the question.
  7. Sorry to hear about this Huggers, it's a horrible thing to happen to anyone. Hope your son's OK.

James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >....The residents of Ashbourne Grove experienced > such an increase in parking stress that many then > proceeded to pave over their front gardens. Why is this still allowed? Surely there should be planning restrictions put in place to stop people turning their front gardens into parking lots.
  9. I still find it galling that Southwark Council spent millions moving their office from the centre if the borough out to flash new offices on the edge if the city. Makes it much more difficult Goethe majority of their constituents to attend such meetings. Such a bad use of taxpayers money.
  10. I imagine it involves a huge development of 'luxury' 1 and 2 bed flats and a two fingered gesture to those already living in SE London.
  11. Totally agree with this. Although the cinema could make ED more of a destination. ???? 13. The first bit of your post (below), I think is broadly true. Although this could change with the new cinema coming. May be able to sustain a few more bars (or at least the ones already here). Adventure bar was always just bad though. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ED has grown in confidence as a predominantly > family orientated area. 14. I'm actually amazed that Adventure Bar lasted as long as it did.
  15. Louisa - what's this obsession with Space NK? I've only ever heard of it through your posts. Adventure Bar was awful. DuncanW description is spot on. If Tsunami opened there I would be very happy indeed.
  16. M&S Simply food would make more sense for the station development imo. Then Iceland could become the mythical Waitrose.
  17. Thanks for the summary. All sounds fairly reasonable on the face of it.
  18. No argument with that Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Still a good > business model, it brings the punters through the > doors. > > Louisa.
  19. I think most ED residents would be happy to say Nunhead is better if it makes them feel good
  20. Louisa - stick the sweets up your jumper as if pregnant and on 'delivery' you meet the true definition of 'yummy mummy'.
  21. You can conceal a lot more illicit popcorn in a bugaboo than a traditional buggy.
  22. Picturehouse are cheaper than the Odeon in Surrey Quays. Peckhamplex is notably cheaper than anywhere else - that is it selling point and you would probably complain if Picturehouse went after Peckhamplex on price I suspect. As it is, it's competing on different terms which means more choice.
