  2. Don't buy anything on the doorstep?

  4. Might want to update the title of this thread, as it's a little misleading.
  5. looks great

Yep, economies of scale mean that you reduce unit costs and increase your margins - making it possible to afford the bigger rents. A sole trader, even one that is popular, may struggle to compete.
  7. EDs getting more like Clapham every day. Depressing.

More parking will just mean more cars.
  9. Despite this shocking cluster of deaths, it is wrong to think that cycling is a generally dangerous activity. On average for a UK cyclist, a serious injury corresponds to about 2 million km of cycling, or less than one in 1,000 annually. Cycling does not incur risks that are unusual by the standards of daily life, or that are outside the range of risks faced by motorists. What's more, there are significant health benefits to regular cycling.
  10. Thought it was a shame that the gallery on north cross road shut
  11. Very excited indeed. Thanks James
  12. The project is being managed by Phil Thompson at Southwark Council. Here is an excerpt from his email: "...We have over 300 locations around the borough that we are currently looking at and from this number we will hope to install a small handful of hangers in order to gauge response from our residents. All being well, after this stage, we will be looking to install cycle hangers borough-wide..."
  13. I emailed Southwark Council about the Lambeth Hangers. Apparently they have not discounted there installation in the Borough, but are infact looking at 300 possible locations as part of a pilot!
  14. That's a real shame regarding the Lambeth hangers - I believe the lack of secure, on-street parking for bikes really reduces take up. Most people either don't have the room to store their bike inside, don't have a garden / shed, or else can't be bothered carrying a bike through the house twice a day. It's interesting that cars aren't considered 'street clutter' despite the fact that one car takes up enough space for half a dozen bikes.
  15. Start a program of works to install Lambeth Hangers on as many streets as possible. Would massively increase cycling.
  16. I really do wish them well, but they're not off to a great start with the over runs / false starts. Now they've kind of half openish... It's not ideal. I really hope they get it under control and make a success of it. I'll definitely be visiting for food when they open the kitchen. I like the decor btw.
  17. I would urge you not to encourage these people. It may be that you are happy with your purchase, which is fine. But by the sounds of it, they use what to some may consider high pressure sales tactics, on the door step. Other, more vulnerable individuals may not end up quite as sanguine about their impulse purchases.
  18. Thanks for the excellent communication as always James. Your use of the forum to engage your constituents in what the council is doing locally should be applauded.
  19. Maybe the redundant train line into london bridge could for one day only, be utilised as a cycle superhighway.
  20. I panic bought a coffee earlier.
  21. ...."it may not be possible to run the trains tomorrow, but even if it turns out that it is, we won't".
  22. Surely you only cancel the trains if and when it's necessary to do so. Its not the same thing as evacuating an area in advance of a likely disaster.
