University- Is it all it's cracked up to be?

Jeremy said: "For professions requiring a high level of numeracy (accounting, finance, computing, etc) a good science degree will often be a pre-requisite for graduate programs. And if you're smart enough to get a Physics PhD, you could be heading for a very lucrative career in analytics in the city." Not quite as often as you think Jeremy dear. A large number of people with physics PhDs are lucky if they secure temporary contracts as university researchers. -

Stillthinking108, tell me dear heart, how does one spot an Irish person? Do they come in several different classes or are they all the same? I hear they are a very homely lot...

I am alarmed that this conversation, which appeared to condone the abuse of illegal drugs was permitted to continue in this forum. One of my biggest fears for my children is that they would take drugs which can cause havoc to their health and personal lives. The manufacture of drugs is used to fund terrorism and is tied up in crime. The use of alcohol is just not the same. BBW doesn't appear to be able to tell the difference between fact and fiction.

Perfect Keef, This, I suppose, could be true. I don't know about every course at every uni. Certainly some courses (law, engineering, medicine, architecture) are as over-subscribed as ever this year. I think there are less students taking a gap year and I hear that there is more pressure/competition than ever. No dumbing down required. -

What are you on about now? You really have lost the plot sweetie. Not everyone takes drugs when they are young BBW, perhaps give that one a little thought as you sober up in your Lewisham bedsit.

I must admit that I am horrified by BBW's casual admission and conversation about drug taking. Quite apart from the fact that it is illegal, I don't consider it to be at all socially acceptable. BBW, you are even more of an arse than I already knew you to be.

Indeed Jah, Monday can be frightful, but there is no need for bad language, and you are not too old to go over my knee (wags finger)...

Dear daizie, I am always shocked to see how many people believe that anyone with the means, can simply chose to send your children to the private school of their choice. I cannot remember the exact numbers, but JAPS, Alleyns and DCPS "interview" something like 11 three and a half year olds for every single place that they offer. Putting a children through the assessments to gain entry to these schools is not at all less stressful, than the vile system that local parents must endure if they wish to send their children to state schools. Money cannot buy you everything, not even in Dulwich...

In fact, I may throw up... Have you ever met the parish priest sweetie? I haven't laughed so much in years. My mascara is everywhere (gasps for breath, cluthces chest and reaches for tissues).

I require a qwerty keyboard if I am to use a phone for email so I started off with the Curve. It was life changingly good. Then I moved on to the Storm, it was frightful and rubbish, so within a month, I moved onto the Bold, which I found was a delight. However, right now, I want a new iPhone. The screen is terrific for the internet, you can see full size versions of e-commerce sites that you use on your desk-top, and the keyboard, although a screen, is the best I have seen yet. My darling man changes his phone more often than he walks our dog, and I am seething with jealousy regarding the speed of his phone internet, it is breath-takingly good. I have several work email addresses, and I need access to them all when I am out and about. The new iphone 3GS has the edge right now, by a long shot. There are apps for everything you can imagine with the IPhone, from shopping on Ocado, to a spirit level. I WANT ONE...

Yes Santerne. I remember the shoot to kill accusations. Very misunderstood...

I seriously hope I am mis-interpreting what I feel is being implied on this thread. I had no idea that people on here were so unacceptably homophobic. Shame on the lot of you. All of the gay men I know have fabulous taste. You lot are kidding yourselves.

My mother is a religious bigot who makes the Rev Ian Paisley look like Mother Theresa..., but in high heels and with a liberal application of Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish in honey beige, she gets away with murder!

Sweet Mick Mack, Brenda was one of the first trolley doll... er... Air hostess type ladies for the Irish National airline. She could distribute G&T without losing a splosh in extreme turbulence. We are so similar in many ways... (bats eyelashes). Please forgive my spelling, I am typing this in my Blackberry, under the table at Chez Bruce.

Declan dear heart, my mother is from Drumcondra, it is true. My father was an artistocratic Argentinian, and it is commonly known that I have a fabulous south American/Italian accent. I wish the BBW would forget about me, he is such an arse. But that is teenagers for you. Perhaps next week he will spend less time in his box room and go make some friends his own age...

I prefer to consider my hair to be "high_lighted" sweetie!

Oh Declan dear heart! We are considering some home improvements. Could you pop over and give me a quote?
