  1. Great match and result. Bemused by the font used on the shirt which looked a bit Germanic/Gothic!
  2. Well that has cleared things up! Sorry for sounding mean, I agree with your views I got a ticket in Surrey once for parking across my friend's house. Locals were peed off with people taking a liberty. It was 20;years ago and in those days (a) police did get involved with such misdemeanours and(b) I could actually speak to someone and get it overturned Fast forward 20 years and I can't get the Met or the council to take action when cars parked on doubles, and sometimes on the pavement on opposite side when there are large events at the banqueting house in Perry Vale. Pointing out that it creates a major hazard gets me nowhere. And yes I've raised it with my MP. A mate in Bexley is so peed off with parents parking across his drive, due to his proximity to a secondary school, he is moving. He gets nowhere when he protests either to the parent or the school.
  3. Oohh I bet some of the receptionists would love this Some of the things the coalition did were reasonable including the nudge. Most of us attending hospital appointments will have had texts and even calls giving remainders, often mentioning the cost of failing to attend to the NHS If it wasn't for unecessary austerity and the Brexit referendum we may even have fond memories of Nick and Dave.
  4. Helping a family member move to their new pad. There are cables everywhere and it looks like they have wired a number of rooms to a satellite dish. I thought that most of us received digital services direct to our TVs and/or broadband. I'm all for ripping this all out. Any one still use a satellite for TV? Cheers
  5. I've never used them but I will be very much in the minority. I don't see any ethical food delivery companies out there, and if there are not serving the mass takeaway market.
  6. I'm spending a few days in Reading. The delivery cyclists all seem to have electric bikes doing 40 km/h. Illegal. I'm not one for knee jerk posts but sarf London appears pretty benign compared to here
  7. Good point DKH, it's a shame we as consumers can't put more pressure on these businesses. If they were using slave labour we'd be up in arms. But most don't care about either the employment conditions, or that this contributes to road safety. Phew, just about kept to the topic.
  8. Mortimer squawked "Nevermore". Fond memories
  9. Strewth Penguin, are you an apologist for big business? They pay piece rate. They do not properly train their delivery people. Don't even ensure that theyuse lights at night let alone follow the highway code and the law. Very much the unacceptable face of capitalism. A responsible government would address some of this.
  10. Sorry to hear and great that help was at hand. Please do contact said delivery company, I put the blame on them for lack of training and monitoring and the whole gig economy mentality. All for profit.
  11. Just looking back on this thread, at least three of you have an axe to grind against cyclists. Why? Most of us aren't extremists, many of us even occasionally drive a car but are happy with measures to promote active travel. Shame some have some fixed views. I've cycled up and down Sydenham hill and never belonged to a cycle club. But even if I did why would that matter!
  12. Greycoats is excellent and a state school too so a double benefit. Downside is rather gender specific
  13. One part of the road deffo would support a cycle road is going up the hill from the Horniman. It's a slog and the road surface us poor. The cycle routes by Horniman are a mess too and I don't like any arrangement where it takes longer to do a junction by bike.
  14. It's frustrating but how often do most of us use branches nowadays? I was one of the many that set up a flex account with Nationwide over ten years ago, all those benefits such as no commission on foreign exchange, then they closed every branch within five miles. And then ditched the benefits. ... 😟 A pooled arrangement would be nice where one bank could cover over basic services. Post Office does some of this but you usually need to queue behind someone with 37 packages to send out on e bay. But even that is changing as so many other delivery options.
  15. I've debated the need for cycling infrastructure in the lounge in the past. My view remains that segregation should not always be needed. National and local government, and many cycling groups disagree. If vehicles stuck to 20 MPH, and treated other road users equally, there would not be so a strong case for segregation. Cyclists in bus lanes, and restricting traffic to create quiet ways, is generally a good thing. I've lived and cycled in the area for decades so used to hills, and when my time comes I'm sure I will go to electric assistance On the point of the thread, traffic speeds apart from by the camera. Like Brenchley a straight road and many can't resist putting their foot down. I prefer other measures to physical means for slowing traffic, even though it means greater surveillance
  16. Good thing I future proofed this thread as it will be applicable to at least the next PM My starter here is to stand by your principles. I supported remain as I considered that the UK was better in Europe. The public thought Otherwise and I will commit to making this work rather than the hash that the current incumbent made of the job. Or I don't need to campaign about this, there are more important challenges facing the UK
  17. OMG yet another thread I will have to leave as it will be invaded by those with one agenda, to have a go at Southwark about LTNs Precious! I'm skulking off back to the lounge as it feels safer there. 😟
  18. But where would you stop? Traffic wardens, lollipop crossing people, professional dog walkers and childminders??? What about the responsibility of the employer and personal responsibility of the employee??
  19. It's a race track. Average speed cameras please. Brenchley Gardens to. Government needs to encourage this to be the norm, rather than kow towing to the entitled motorists lobby. Yes national government
  20. Given lifts to people to East Croydon to get to Gatwick at unsociable times. Also used bus and Uber myself at times to do similar. Only used taxi all the way for very early flights. Having said that flew from Gatwick on Wednesday, still some turmoil after the extreme heat and for a while stopping route via Redhill cancelled due to cows on the line. Coming back next Wednesday and there is a national train strike😐 I could write a book about London airports - ironic as I am cutting down on flying due to climate change. Stansted won't use the train and get Nat Express from Stratford. Heathrow don't use Heathrow Express, have been known to cycle which is very cyclist unfriendly. Luton have to admit to driving there. Cycled back from Southend once which was horrid.
  21. Isn't that up to the schools?

    Talktalk

Left them up years ago. Just didn't function with remote working. Had been with them since Tiscali days and using a dongle when much better value than main providers.
  23. Oh and I visited family in London passing a straw yellow Hyde Park with dozens of couples canoodling, public displays of affection seemed far more intimate than nowadays!
  24. We had a wet half term in South Wales and returned from Devon on the last Saturday of August when the weather broke. In-between not a drop of rain We were allowed to take our ties off at school. Most of us brought in a bottle of squash that was frozen overnight. So from my memory nonsense to say school kids didn't carry water. No memories of plagues of ladybirds. We didn't have a hosepipe ban but father did his bit as we used bath or sink water to flush the toilet. I hadn't discovered rock music but started to show an interest in the opposite gender It was nowhere as hot as it is now
